It's funny how the same sort of people that bang on about government interference and bureaucracy are usually the same people that want to hand the state the right to kill its own citizens as retribution. The death penalty has no obvious deterrent effect on these sorts of crimes and reinstating it would be a further step on the grim road we are already on: the road that makes Britain an international pariah and a mean and twisted country of failure and misrule.

Yep. Other than have strict security protocols in every single building, there's not a lot you can do. And we, rightly, don't want to live in a society like that. Tragedies like this are inevitable and happen (more or less) everywhere. Doesn't make them any less despicable and doesn't make it any less awful if the authorities should have intervened with this guy sooner.
