The Old Codger's Achievements

  1. To the OP and any others agreeing (can't be arsed to read such tripe!) Good, f**k off and don't come back - EVER YOU WON'T BE MISSED. Now infract me and ban me forever. This place is full of sad, unrealistic morons who just have no idea. What a t w a t you are Dibden!
  2. Good to see there are a few others here who have sensible football brains and don't let the massive disappointment lead them to ridiculous knee-jerk reactions everytime something doesn't go our way. This time last year the "knee-jerkers" were telling us that Lallana was not good enough to wear the shirt..... All of our games this year have had the same ingredients, even Brizzle Rovers. Saints start brightly, play excellent football, pass and move, plenty of possession, running the opposition ragged, no luck/rub of the green, players heads drop, confidence drops, crowd get nervy, players start to pass their way towards goal rather than keeping the cut and thrust... need I go on? Brizzle Rovers we happened to score a poor goal from a corner and managed to stick a couple of other chances away too. Otherwise, it was a very similar game to all the others. We did see the 'new manager' effect last night. The team came out and played far more directly, keeping the ball down and passing and moving. We swept forward at will and the trigger was pulled far earlier than previous games. Even lambo had a dig from an unlikely angle. If any of those early chances had gone in we would have romper away, much like Brizzle. Unfortunatley, the ref and lady luck had not read the script. The linesman in the corner nearest the Saints fans was just incompetent, proven when he made the same mistakes in the second half. Yes, the second half was terrible. Yes, the players loom to be unable to keep up the pace for 90 mins. Yes, our key players are not fit/performing. But, this is not the road crash that so many people seem to think! NA will get them right. These players are good enough to get us promoted, this year. They need some work, both physically and mentally. AP has gone, he played a dangerous game pre-season by trying to demonstrate how shallow our skills pool is in the squad. Playing Pulis from the start against Reading? That. to me', was "doing a rednapp" in the way he crucified our youth up at Mansfield, point scoring vs the chairman. NA has the psyche to get into the heads of this set of players and turn a poor start into top 2 form. We haven't been that far off in any of our games this year. It's small tweaks, not major surgery. No doubt part of the recovery will be to get some fresh blood in, just to demonstrate that no-one is guaranteed a starting place. Lambo has been our worst performer so far. He has carried an injury but appears to undroppable. He needs to warm the bench on Saturday and have a 20 minute cameo. One deflected free kick and a penalty is not what we need from him. Rant over. Just everyone take a 'reality' pill, watch the full 90 mins and get supporting the 11 on the pitch for 90 mins. We have our part to play in this, the fans hav not yet stepped up to the plate either.
  3. Second from last one - the steward appears to have ASBOS written on the back on her hi-vis?!?!
  4. I think they've made the font smaller on the text elements of the new service, as HD allows it be be clearer in a smaller font - and they can display more information. The result is that this SD version has 'blurred' text as it cannot display the finer lines of the smaller font. I'm not sure they could/would intentionally 'dumb down' the SD quality, but the font change is a clever way to demonstrate the extra detail possible on HD.
  5. Give the one a break! This time last year there were many people here saying that Lallana "isn't a footballer" and is not good enough for Saints! Where do you people ever find enjoyment in your lives! All you're interested in is slating people, seemingly without thinking before engaging keyboard! No wonder the number of active posters on here is rapidly diminishing!
  6. Hopefully the final parts of the deal will be completed soon. Elliott Ward from Coventry was a 'done deal' until someone blabbed in the media too early! Not yet nailed on, we all know how Cortese seems to work on announcements! As many have said, if it is to be NA then whatever the initial reaction is - we must support him and his team WHATEVER decisions they make.
  7. What a gift! AA: everything is in place, the FL just have to sit down blah blah blah then.... AA: we just have to provide cash-flow forecasts...... http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/Andronikou-and-Pompey-set-for.6519116.jp AA: the owners made a £1m bid for Austen "the owners"?! Who would that be then! Some serious fun to be had with various storries up there this morning!
  8. Monday 6th Sept 2010 at 08:22hrs (please be MoN **everything crossed**)
  9. The country store Scats do the very same poison. A few carefully placed 'meals' and the nest is killed very quickly and easily. £10-£20 tops!
  10. I agree with the general feel here - Martin should return at CH (but will he?). Guly still too early to judge, but shouldn't start. Some variation on 4-5-1 looks a good starting point, with a view to reefer to 4-4-2 on 60 mins to give DC his well deserved run out. Lambo will have to up his game if he plays the 'lone' role though. I want to see plenty of football played through the midfield, with 5 good players available in there we should be able to create opportunities around what will no doubt be a solid defensive line. Punch, Chambs and Dickson can unlock the game by playing to our strengths. Deano and Morgan pulling the strings from DM positions - Morgan using his excellent passing skills to pull off the diagonal defence sitting passes needed for Chambs to exploit. Easy! One final point. Whatever happens we need the fans onside and supportive of the 11 on the pitch. Whoever they are and however they play, we need to back them from KO to final whistle. No anti-NC stuff. No Pards stuff. Plain and simple coicifedous support for 90+ mins. We need to collect 3 points.
  11. The "get off" stuff, green tablets that smell a bit like washing up liquid? Before using them, you MUST give the "toilet" area a good wash down with a hose.... it all based on scent and you need to remove the previous deposits/scents before using a scent based repellent. HTH.
  12. Rather than knee jerk "NC is a ****" reactions, take a deep breath and think this through. AP and NC have fallen out in the past and NC has a very clear vision for where he wants things to go. If AP is deemed not able to deliver that, then NC had to change things. NC is clearly doing what he thinks is best for SFC. He would not take such a decision lightly. AP has done a fabulous job getting the players he has and getting us set up with a professional back office support structure. I am sad for AP as he deserved a crack at getting us promoted. I am also gutted for those players who will find it difficult to accept a new gaffer as they had much respect for AP. As for our future, I am certain that NC has a "Plan B" and that the majority will understand this move when it comes to fruition. There will always be the moaning minnies, no matter what happens. Some people are just unable to see past their dislike for a person (NC) vs the good business practises he imposes on the club. Long ago I accepted that football is "morally bankrupt" - enforced when Nigel Pearson got the sack in favour of the "cheaper" dutch experiment. Alan Pardew - thanks for all you have done for SFC. You have always held your head high and done what you thought needed to be done. Much respect and good luck in your next appointment (please not at a League One club!) Excited now that the "rabbit in the hat" will be able to attract even greater talent to our club and we will start to get those results that so far have evaded us - ones we will need to get if we are to climb the league. Of course our season is not "finished". We have played 3 games! Promotion is still very much on the cards and I intend to enjoy the ride rather than spend all my time moaning.
  13. This whole 'prediction' thing doesn't give a basis for discussing who 'knows' football and who doesn't! If saints should lose at home to Rochdale, then Alps 'run-rate' of points will be spot on. Does that make either side of the argument right or wrong? NO! From my perspective, these are all winnable games Md we have to take each one it comes. That is what NC will be doing, as will AP. What I implore of everyone here is that you support the team for 90 mins, it does make a difference.
  14. Pardew is pointing at 'the culprit' and saying "that aubergine, what a great idea! How about doing that at every away game from now on - the aubergine is the reason we scored 4"!
  15. Avram pops back to Nottarf Krap to "steal" another one of SC's staff! Not such a great deal available as that from Stoke. Let's see how they dress this one up! SC stated that Wilson would "be going nowhere" - lets see how strong his resolve is..... (although he has since stated he can't really do much to stop him going!) And so it continues ..... Carry on....... http://www.skysports.com/football/transfer_clockwatch
