The Burnham Years - Can the new(ish) broom sweep clean?
iansums replied to iansums's topic in The Lounge
The triple lock though does have to go, that is almost universally agreed. The problem is that none of the political parties will admit this because it will lose them votes. -
Nice one Turkish, lucky fella!

I have to agree with this post. You (Osvaldo) make a lot of good points IMO, but the language you use leaves you open to ridicule and consequently people will play the poster rather than the post. It goes both ways though, I see agressive language from those who disagree with anything right of centre. -

Good idea, maybe I'll start a new travel thread. -

I had high hopes for this thread when I started it, sadly it’s become another slanging match like so many others. 😟 -

Some bloke at the protest in Portsmouth wears a burqa and tells the police he’s gender fluid and identifies as a Muslim woman 😁😁 -

Yes, but odd how it takes a ‘far right’ march before anything happens. Banning face covering should be implemented nationwide IMO. -

Eeerm yes, his words implied welfare spending took priority over defence spending. -

English schools have gone up in the international rankings due to policies introduced by Tory government, let’s hope this government doesn’t undo all the good work. Scottish schools have dropped down the table. -

The Scottish government increased the higher tax rates only to find the overall tax revenue fall. This is problem with trying to tax those ‘wealthy bastards’ more. -

Not that I can read his mind but I don’t think he is implying that at all, in another post he mentions lost tax revenue. Tax plans should be determined by what’s best for the country and maximising revenue is a huge part of that. -

Where did Os mention anything about a person's vote? (not that I'm an expert on this). The point he is making is that increased taxes for the wealthy are counter-productive, they end up raising less revenue. -
70 Up starts on 16th, apparently the final one, remarkable series.

I don’t agree with a lot of what Os posts, but this was very funny.

Basic, but decorated, a bit like an IRA cell.
-
This post doesn't apply to me.

Is this your new, favourite adjective? You are working through that dictionary.

To be fair, talking to an egg does sound a little boring.

All face coverings should be banned IMO, except for medical reasons.

The thing I don't understand is why? When they've managed to get all the way through Europe, why do they want to risk their lives on a rubber dinghy to get to the UK. What is it that they think we are offering that Europe isn't? Whatever it is, we need to make absolutely clear, they ain't gonna get it.

Detention centres with no free movement, absolutely basic living conditions. Make it so bloody horrible that they ask to go back (which would unfortunately be at a cost to the tax payer). This would get my vote. 🫢

Including of course a wonderful closing scene with Bob Hoskins.

I forgot about The Excorcist, brilliant film.

Well, firstly accept my apologies if you do find it offensive and I am a little wary about posting it again. A few years ago on a transfer rumours thread we were linked with John Paintsil. In true SWF tradition all the ‘paint’ puns started so I posted something like: ’I quite like him but my wife’s not keen on the colour’ Please report me to the mods if you see fit.
