Well I have a (near) vested interest as I retire within 6 years, but I do think it has to go. We need to gradually increase workplace pensions and educate people into saving more. It seems inevitable that at some point it will be means tested. My selfish argument against that is why should someone like myself who has been careful with money and planned for retirement (for much of that time without any employer funding) be punished by removing my state pension.

Yes, good to see it being discussed. I do think that rather than proposing it for their next manifesto, they should act now and change to an inflation link in the forthcoming budget. There are though already dissenting voices in the party and the unions.

Both myself and my wife had part-time second jobs at one stage, she did waitressing and I did a little bit of prostitution.

We've always been very cautious of over stetching ourselves, perhaps due to the very high interest rates in the late 80's and the subsequent negative equity. As the interest rates gradually fell, we kept paying the same amount and managed to bring the term down by several years, now mortgage free thankfully. I do feel for the youngsters now though.

I have to agree with this post. You (Osvaldo) make a lot of good points IMO, but the language you use leaves you open to ridicule and consequently people will play the poster rather than the post. It goes both ways though, I see agressive language from those who disagree with anything right of centre.
