WGS got us to one Cup Final, which we lost, 8th in the League and yet he's considered untouchable and Saints legend. 8th in the League would have been a very average season for Lawrie, and his style of football was far and away better than anything we've seen since. The fact that other Club's supporters hold Lawrie in higher regard, than some Saints supporters is very sad. What's the great man done to deserve this poison spread about him? Speak out against Rupert Lowe (who let's not forget was Chairman during 2 relegations and led us into admin) thats what. Clough, Revie, Bobby Robson, Bill Shankley were fantastic footballers, like Jose, Lawrie had to get the buy in from players on the strength of his personality as his football ability was limited. The fact he managed to get World Class footballers to sign for a provincial club playing at The Dell, is testiment to his personality and ability to get the best out of people. Where he differes from other similar Managers Like "Big Ron" and Redknapp, was the young players he also devolped and brought on during his regin at the Club. He was not in the same league as Sir Bobby or Cloughie, but was the nearest we'll ever have to them. There will never be another Lawrie Mac at this Club and he should be treated with respect.

After Ted stepped down, had the Directors run the club in the same manner as Lowe, and all Ted's achievements were swept under the carpet. Had the Club slipped back to the league Ted took us from with the directors poisioning the Club, and trashing everything the Club stood for, I've no doubt Ted would have said something. You have to have a big ego to Manage people like Bally and KK, and Lawrie's was as big as anyone's.We would not have signed the players we did, or played in the style we did, without Lawrie's ego. To have Lowe luvvies on here complaining about someone's ego, strikes me as a bit ironic. At least Lawrie's ego brought us Keegan, Ball, Osgood and Shilton. Lowe's brought us Wiggley, Portfliet, Woodward and Clifford.

Coventry fans were saying the same thing about WGS

The Pulis deal stinks to high heaven. Had Harry Redknapp signed another managers son, when he was injured. If that managers son was totally hopeless, then people would be calling it corrupt and asking what was in it for Redknapp. I dont believe Jan or Wotte had anything to do with this deal, so who did? During a time we were counting every penny and ended up in administration why did our PLC Chairman (the same guy who embarked on a media round blaming others for "wasting money") agree to this deal. No other CCC would have signed Pulis, why did we?

Spot on, living here in Poole I meet plenty of Boscombe supporters and they're all "Scummers this" and "Scummers that". Personally I couldn't give a monkeys if they went out of business. With Eddie Mitchell at the helm, there's a good chance of that happening.

Duncan Fletcher won the ashes in 2005,and is evidently a good man manger. If ML brings him in now behind the scenes, we'd think he'd gone bonkers. The SCW thing was just Lowe showing the football world how clever and visionary he was. With all the money sloshing around in the Premiership, why hasn't any other Club approached SCW or Clifford?

I didn't know we could score goals like this...

Bookies odds on next Southampton manager
Lord Duckhunter replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
For a non football person Adams proberly ticks all the boxs. He could make his CV look very good. Ex England Captain, good leader of men, won the lot with Arsenal, will have Arsene Wenger's backing, was Harrys number 2 when they won the cup and has coached abroad. However lots of people have looked like they'd make good Managers from Bobby Moore to David Platt, but they never actually were. Hopefully ML will be taking advise from football people and his results at Wycombe and Pompey just dont merit him being given a chance. This along with his Pompey past will make his appointment a massive dissapointment and again split the fan base. Personally, I cant see it happening, however if it does, lets hope we all get behind him and judge him by results alone. -
Lowe did have a point and did do us a favour

Is this the same Lowe, that took us over our agreed overdraft limit, plunging us into administration and nearly costing us our Club? -
Leicester have just waltzed the League we're going to be in. Other teams of comaprable size and history have struggled to get out of this League, but Leicester walked it. If they had any other Manager, and that Manager was linked to our Club, everybody would be 100% behind the appointment. The fact they are not is solely down to the divisions Lowe brought to this Club, and how hard it's going to be to get over these splits. This just shows how poisonous Lowe was for our Club, and just how hard it's going to be to get over his legacy. Victims of this have included Lawrie Mc and Dave Armstrong and now seem to include a good young English Manager in Nigel Pearson. I will be delighted if we can get in the man who won League 1 last year .

Adams record speaks for itself, which is why he wont get the job. The fact he's a Skate makes no difference to me, look at the job Bally did for them. I just want the best man for the job, and if he's a Skate, then so be it.

Alan Pardew's got a pretty decent record at Reading and then West Ham. Ok, it didn't work out too well at Charlton, but then WGS got Coventry relegated.I think it's good to employ Managers with a point to prove.Paul Jewell is another one, got Bradford and Wigan up, with a point to prove after what heppened at Derby. If we want a solid sustainable rise, then Peter Taylor fits the bill. One out of left field would be Lawrie Sanchez, who I think could get us out of this league even with the -10. Whether the fan base would accept him is another matter. Pardew or Taylor would be ok in my opinion.

He tried to, but missed. -
Great news. First football decision and they get it spot on.

I've just come back from Spain where I drank most nights in a bar owned by a Dutchman, who loved football. He said Jan was respected in Holland as a very good player and a decent guy, but that Wotte was considered a "show off" (in his words), who has never achieved much.At the time of leaving for Spain it looked like Wotte was off to Egypt, when I told this Dutch guy that he was off, his exact words were "you've a lucky escape".

They did it to Leeds and Luton. To transfer the Golden Share to the new Company, the FL made them sign away the right of appeal. You can not play in a FL comp without a Golden Share and they have to approve any transfer of this share.

I heard the interview and there was nothing wrong with what he said or the way he said it. Said he'd spoken to Matt yesterday and it was unfair on Saints fans that there hopes of KK had been raised. When Brazil asked him if KK would be Manager, he said "almost certainly not". It came over that he loved the Club and Brazil asked him about kicking the workmans ladder away, Mark replied along the lines of "I'd kick more than that". He seemed pretty sure the takeover would happen today.
-
IF he becomes Manager it sends out a powerful statement that the new owners have some money. He wont come cheap and neither will the players he'll want.Whatever the merits of KK as a Manager the fact that they dont appear to be messing about, makes me positive for the future.

LoL.... That'll get a few foaming at the mouth.

If it had gone belly up at 11am, would you have heard something by now?

I'm hoping that with Matt Le Tiss' involvement he can use his contacts in the game, to get advice on our next Manager. I believe that Don Revie recommended Lawrie to the Saints board and over the years SAF has given good solid advice to Chaiman about up and coming Managers ( I think I'm right in saying he recommended Moyes to Preston). Those within the game know a lot more about whose suitable than us supporters, and hopefully Matt can tap into people within the game and make an informed choice.People like WGS might not want to come and manage us, but I'm sure if asked he would give his opinion on who could do a job for us.
-
He would put another 10,000 on the first home game of the season. Bring all the media and spotlight on us for the first game. There are'nt too may Managers in the game who can do that. His record at this level is there for all to see and if Pinnicle are serious about getting him in, there must be some serious money behind them. If anyone can bring the feelgood factor back to SMS and overcome a 10 point deduction, with a united fan base, it's KK

Sorry, that was a bit too far-fetched .

A retirement home CEO will come in. His plan is to appoint a Manager a year, before giving the job to a Rugby coach. He's then going to bring in 2 lower league managers, and play the youth team. His revolutionary "Baldrick" like plan will stun football and lead us out of this division.
