  1. Not that I know much about these things, but the Poorsmouth case looks closest to the Leeds situation than any other. It appears that Bates manipulated the admin procees to get the Club's debt down and get a Premier League set up on the cheap. Here it looks like Chanarai is manipulating the admin procees here, to maximise his return and get his hands on the parachute money. In the Leeds case the Revenue challanged the CVA, despite it receiving 75% of the vote. It was the delay caused by this challange that resulted in the points deduction, as the administartor couldn't fund the club during the appeals procees. The Revenue will surely challange Poorsmouth's CVA and delay proceedings, but Chanari may still fund the Club during these proceedings if it means he gets the parachute money at the end of it. From day 1 there was only one outcome of the Leeds admin, that Bates would end up with the Club. Personally I think there's there's only one outcome of Poorsmouth's, Chanari will own the Club. It just depends how much damage the Revenue/FL/FA do to the Club in the meantime, points deduction wise. With Leeds you could see Bates' reasoning behind the deal, to get Leeds back to where they really should be, will make him loads of money. Chanari's motives are surely all about maximising his revenue, surely even in his limitted time in football he realises they are not a Premier league outfit, and even if they were, needed massive investment to sustain it. Therefore long term they are still screwed even if they do manage to wriggle out of it.
  2. Whilst not wishing to gloss over the disgraceful behaviour of the British Army,if people like McGuinness weren't carrying submachine guns to a "peaceful protest" march, the outcome may have been very different.Do not under any circumstances believe that McGuinness wouldn't have used this to gun down Brits. That is the circumstances these boys were operataing under, and it's hardly a surprise that some over reacted. This has to be placed in the context of NI in the 1970's not Britain in 2010.
  3. On talksport it was said that the makers of the ball offered it to the Premier League, but they had a commercial agreement to use another ball. Obviously the league needs the money
  4. It was a shameful episode in the history of Britains involvement in NI, but there have also been many many more shameful acts perpetrated by the Republicans. I find it beyond belief that Martin McGuinness and Gerry Adams seem to come out of the whole peace procees smelling of roses. McGuinness, who the enquiry found, was carring a sub machine gun, is now deputy first minister and previous to that was education minister.Only in the warped world of Ulster politics could this happen. My personal opinion is that Ireland belongs to the Irish and should have been handed back to them fully, rather than broken up, but that's easy to say sat here in sunny Dorset in 2010.I have very good friends from Dublin, and although they have a romantic notion of a united Ireland, find the IRA and the acts they carried out abhorrent. They want nothing to do with the North or any of the leading figures in this terrible period of their history. Although the British army acted against the law and helped recruit hundreds if not thousends of Ulster youths to the IRA's cause, I dont think 60 year old retired troops should be forced through the courts to face charges, when Macguinnes, Adams ect are running that Country. Lets just hope that this enquiry can give the families some sort of clousure, and that it in someway helps to cement the peace procees.
  5. I think we need to be up in the 45,000 area in terms of a Stadium.Whether that means redevoloping SMS or starting afresh somewhere is down to the experts. In a perfect world I would like the area around SMS devoloped and the ground extended/knocked down to start again. I can see us getting left behind, if in 10 years time we only have a 32,000 capacity. We have a massive catchment area and a great owner, let's build on it and push onto the next level.
  6. That's a shame, I don't rate Southgate. Can't see him digging them out of a hole on limitted resource.
  7. The Lefties seem to think we should keep non profitable organsiations running to give people jobs. They are at it now with the Public Sector, "we cant have cuts, because people will lose their jobs". The Lefties dont seem to understand, that sad as it is for the people involved, and their communities, that people do lose jobs, that industry does change and that when Labour intensive industries modernise or close, lots of people lose their jobs. What is the alternative,Govt spending to prop up uneconomic industries, just to keep people in work? We are having the same debate now that Mrs T won in the 80's, over the Public sector. It needs trimming, people will lose their jobs, let's just hope that the Govt can stimulate the Private sector to pick up the slack and employ the people unfortunate enough to lose their job. It is sad when a 'street football co-ordinator' and an 'enviro-crime enforcement officer' loses their job, but if we dont need these people, we dont need them.
  8. Both the Tory and Labour Govt's have been guilty of pushing people onto Disability and off unemployment because it looks better. In an age when people are more healthy,it seems strange that there are more people, not less on disability. I have a severely disabled nephew, who will never be able to work, and my sister gets fantastic help from the state. However, there are plenty of people who could work, and these need getting off this benefit. How you do that without upsetting people like my Sister is a very hard balancing act.
  9. I have a mate who works in the press, and we had a few together last Sunday. He says he doesn't get much info now, and neither do any of his collagues. He thinks it's because "they are all on the same side now". I suppose he means there are no factions at the Club leaking to make themselves look better, or the others look worse. However, we had partaken in a lot of Tanglefoot when he was telling me, so the exact conversation was a bit hazy.
  10. Why is it the Leftie's praise people who were wrong on every issue, and had the whiff of KGB money about them in Foot and Jones, and yet have a blind hatred towards a women that the British people elected 3 times. To compare her to Hitler is shameful and ignorant. In the 10 years from 1979 to 1989 more people owned shares and houses, the Unions were put in their place, it no longer took weeks to get a phone line fitted and Britain was no longer the sick man of Europe. All measures oppossed by Labour. They lost the arguement, abandoned clause 4,and embraced much of Maggie's agenda. They had 13 years in power and yet did not repeal any of the union laws, did not renationalise anything, let market forces prevail and even made the bank of England independent ( a move considered too radical by Mrs T).The Labour movement had to move towards Mrs T and away from the Leftie heros like Foot and Benn, perhaps thats the reason they have a pathological hatred of her.
  11. Thanks for all the advise. The internet is full of confussing info, so I thought some of people on here would be more like us and would have been through the same. As I said, he hasn't lost any of the existing fish, just ones added lately (4 of them, and all catfish)). He does have a couple of silly ornaments (he is only 10) and a few rocks, but they have been in there since he started, and 2 months ago the Phosphate was fine. Whats confussing him is he has stone suckers that hang around the bottom, and an ugly misreable looking thing, that looks like Avram Grant ( I think it's called a clown plec, but not sure) who hangs around the bottom and they are all fine, but as soon as he adds catfish, who pick at stuff on the bottom( he's tried bronze and Albino ones), they dont last very long. What he's done is clean the filter and replace one lot of carbon, changed 20% of the water and is going to change 20% in 2 days time, followed by another 20% 2 days after that, he's turned the lights from 10 hours to 6 and I've also told him to cut down on the Algie wafers for the Avram Grant thing. He's tested for Nitrate and it's fine, it's just a lot more algie than he has had and high Phosphate. Fingers crossed he can sort it out and add some catfish.
  12. He adds some sort of minerals to the RO water called Re-Mineral Tropic, it states on the label No Phosphates.
  13. I've just had a look and the plants seem to have some sort of "fur" on them, not sure what it is, there is also a lot of algie, which he hasn't had a problem with before. He's asleep now, so I can't ask him how long it's been like this, but I'll check with him in the morning.
  14. That's the strange thing, no fish have died except when he's tried to add a couple of cat fish on 2 separate occasions. They swam round like they were drunk for a couple of days and then went off to meet their maker. We were told that the water was proberly too hard, so that's when he started using RO water. He tested the water for phosphate 2 months ago and it was fine, tested again last night and it was high. I tested the RO water for him today and there was none at all, so it's something in the tank ( I know that's obvious, but we are novices)
  15. He's got about 3 live plants. I dont think he's overfeeding because the nitrate levels are perfect. He feeds them once every 3 days. I'll get him to clean the filter and see if that can bring them down. He gets the water tested once a month and it's been ok until now. What's confussing him is he is doing nothing different.
  16. My little lad has been keeping tropical fish about 8 months. All of a sudden he has started to get high Phosphate levels and we dont really know what to do about it. I was wondering if any forum members had any advise for him. He has an 80 Ltr tank, with about 20 fish in. He has an RO water maker, and the water he puts in shows no Phosphate at all. When he tests the water from the tank, it shows a level of about 3.He changes 10% of the water weekly and 20% once a month. Does anyone know the cause and the cure of his problem, as we keep getting conflicting and confusing advise.
  17. I'm sure Cup and play off tickets will be ST holders first, followed by members, and then the data base. In my opinion that makes it worthwhile despite it costing me £42.00 (if my memory serves) for the family last time they ran it.
  18. I think memberships are a great idea and after the Pompey ticket farce, where you only have had to have been to 1 previous game, will make ticket distribution fairer. I would like to see it set at a high level, with some sort of money off for games. Maybe £30 and no £3 transaction charge for tickets . That means go to 10 games and you get your money back.
  19. Put it like this; Had the present lot taken over in 1997 and not Lowe and his gang, we wouldn't be in League 1 now. We'd be up with the Villa's, Everton's and Fulham's chasing a Europa League spot.
  20. In a similar vein to the Cash stuff is this video from Willie Nelson Willie is underappreciated in this Country and unfortunatly will proberly have to pass before getting the recongition his talent fully deserves. He's playing Glastonbury this year, so he may pick up a few of the younger generation.
  21. There are some real gems in his American recordings, (although towards the end they got a bit patchy). Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus is one and Nick Cave's Mercy Seat is fantastic. The fact Cash was coming to the end of his life, is reflected inh his voice and I think that's why his version of Hurt is so memorable. Whoever wrote the songs doesn't really matter, he had an original take on them. That's what a great cover version should be about. I'd heard his shows could be poor due to ill health and other issues, but he was on fine form when I saw him.
  22. I saw the great man at The Albert Hall around the time of his first American Recordings Album, one of the best performances I've ever seen.
  23. We're looking at it from a "Southampton till I die" point of view, a business man will look at it differently, that's the price we have to pay for ML's money. The key here is the silance around the decision, it's like they think we're too simple to understand the reasoning. If they laid out the reasoning behind it, and did it early, 75% of the complaints would go away. They've made the story bigger than it needed to be, and caused more bad feeling than they needed to.I haven't got a S/T so it doesn't affect me, and yet I'm still a bit puzzled by the handling of it.
  24. The timing of this is pretty poor customer service really, it should have been announced around April time to allow for people to try and adjust their spending. I was playing 5 a side last night with a senior Manager of a large retail Company and we were talking about this. He said they used to throw "store cards" at everyone who came through the door, but the last couple of years the finance Companies are charging the store more and more to administer it. He said the cost was starting to eat into the margin of already heavily reduced items. Therefore the cards are not actively sold to customers, not advertised and only used for high ticket items, when the customer is clearly going to spend at a rival. I suggest the same thing has proberly occured here. If the cost to the Club outweighs any advantages of getting money up front and they'll get more from people buying their tickets one at a time, then clearly they'll do that. I know people wikll say pass the cost onto the customer, but if the cost is more than the saving, then people will not take out the installment plan anyway. I can't see any other reason for the Club doing this, if the installment plan meant more money up front, guarenteed attandance every week then they would do it. They are not fools, and although the thing has been handled badly PR wise, there will be a sound business reason for it. I do feel sorry for the guys who have to find this large amount of money in these difficult times, money that they haven't budgetted for, but sometimes things do kick you in the balls.
  25. Two years ago John Prescott said "I don't want to be a member of the House of Lords. I will not accept it." Whatever political opinion anyone has, surely we can all agree that saying one thing then doing another is hypocrisy.
