Dare I suggest it is this obsession with a "bigger name" ,at the expense of obtaining the best candidate perhaps, that is likely to cost us.Sure Dowie is a bigger name, but largely because he has his fair share of failures behind him. Agree with you about the suggestion of Marsden.Completely fanciful and bordering on the choice of simpletons, along with suggestions of 'Benali,MLT,Nick Holmes 'etc.
-
Yes.I have suggested the same. However having gone through the turmoil at Exeter would he want to leave them whilst they are still in the ascendency, for us ? Especially if it meant getting caught up in the Lowe-Crouch crossfire.
-
Can't we sign Billy The Fish, and the big breasted red indian squaw this transfer window whilst we're at it ?
-
Not so sure about that,I wouldn't put it past RL to sack JP,or wrap it up in a "mutual consent" departure.
-
Give it a rest. It was the sacking/"mutual consenting" to Luggy's departure that was "trouble from that day onwards",not his appointment. If you care to remember we actually won away from home in some style under Sturrock at Wolves and Man City. FWIW,with the benefit of hindsight I agree with you that Hoddle might have been a better choice, but even excluding GH,there was no reasom why an alternative could not have succeeded,if given the correct backing.

Ridiculous suggestion in my view. Nick Holmes, great servant to the club, yes;anything more is imaginative in the extreme.I saw him interviewed during Salisbury's cup run and he seemed pretty uninspiring and I can't see him motivating frankly. As for tactical genius,I'll bow to your knowledge TT but I was not aware of it.
-
That would be pretty high on my list as well.

I care, but I feel almost numb to it now.

The lowest point I felt until recently was during our first season after relegation in 1974.Around new year we lost 1-0 at home to bottom club Sheffield Wednesday. It really was one of the most dire performances I had witnessed.Wednesday scored after something like 90 seconds with a pathetic tap in.We were abysmal and hardly threatened for the remaining 89 minutes. The difference now, I suppose on reflection, is that at least I was at The Dell for that match and did not hesitate to return to support my club.Infact I would not even have contemplated not going to the next match. Now though,I really don't know when I will again go back to St Marys again. My kids are Saints fans and believe it will change;the glory days will be all the more sweeter after this period of suffering, but will it be in my lifetime ?I'm not so sure.

Why would a new manager of any quality want to work with Rupert Lowe?
Badger replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
What we need is what I would call an "impact manager",who can get results quickly with a change in emphasis and motivation.Davies would have been ideal.Cotterill or the Dowie of his Palace days would be the next best thing available to us.Hoddle might at the very least make us hard to beat. This however is very different from a manager to build the club up again in the longer term. All of those mentioned have a relatively short shelf life in my view, and soon lose the direction and fail to maintain the same impetus. I'd go for one of the above until the end of the season then review it again.Hopefully without Lowe involved. -
Short term till the end of the season would be Cotterill,Dowie or Boothroyd (God forbid !) to try and keep us up.Perhaps Hoddle even. End of the season, bring someone ambitious and capable to build the club again.Tisdale is the candidate. BUT,for anything or anyone to make it happen Lowe must f^ck off first.

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best left Side Striker
Badger replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Ron Davies the greatest centre forward we have ever seen. -
Accepted. But ultimately the problem begins and ends with Lowe.Change the manager, put Mourinho in charge or whoever it won't improve whilst Lowe remains .As I have said before, not even JC, with his disciples as backroom staff, would achieve with the 'beetroot cheeked' bastard as controller.
-
No we f^cking don't,Grey and Wigley are testimony to how our mistakes are repeated.Dare I suggest Henderson might be on a par with them....although of course he might still be an improvement on our present position.
-
I thought they had to get three points today, perhaps I was mistaken. Actually I disagree with the parts highlighted in bold;Lowe has to be run out of this club AGAIN,getting rid of JP may only be a short term solution. Perhaps you should take your protests to Ravenswell Farm,Withington nr Cheltenham to see if Lowe will listen,he always closes his ears to the crowds in Southampton.
-
Sorry, just seen the stop press: rival bid from Forest Green Rovers announced.
-
Gloucestershire Echo tonight says s he's not sure of full time commitment to coming to England,so he will be on loan to Cheltenham Town until the end of season as a sort of trial.

is lowe waiting for the transfer window to close...
Badger replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
I would have thought Lowe will wait pending results, although I think he sacked Dave Jones - sorry, allowed him to go on a sabbatical - after we had beaten Everton at home.So anything can happen on Planet Rupert. -
Have to say its a close call between those two for the most hated ,during their time at the club (which for most people would exclude Redknut and Hoddle). Branfoot was probably spared from relegating us by the sack.Lowe on the other hand has masterminded one relegation already, and not content with that...

Isn't this 'blobbist' ?

Saints Greatest XI - B Team Right Striker Nominations
Badger replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Think Ted had been fairly prolific for Norwich though in Div One before he joined us. Moran was a player of immense promise but never fulfilled. Can't comment on his wife;perhaps that is worth an entirely seperate poll, but did she compare with Anders Svennson's 'doris' ,or Mrs Licka? -
Branfoot was the most hated manager whilst in position at the club.He has since been overtaken by Red****t in the all time list f'sure. Most useless = wartface.
-
Not difficult as they had offered him no wages in no deal.Even Rupert would offer a 20% increase on that.

If you were looking for a proven partnership for the 'B' team then Boyer and MacDougall would be a good option. -
the things Rupert Lowe has said over the years
Badger replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I remember that causing a bit of amusement on the forum at the time. Clearly Rupert "mis-underestimated" the challenge ahead (to use a GWBushism)
