Errr....I assume you didn't read what I wrote above?.....THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING LEFT OR RIGHT.......Labour WERE the ones pushing for out in the '70s and it came from the top that we changed our views so is it surprising she's voting out and is a labour supporter?....Not at all.
-
Oh it will. Leaving the EU will allow the UK government (most probably conservative as they are currently doing all they can to stay in power) to exit the court of human rights and break from most EU workers rights laws....You are aware that's WHY labour did a complete 360 in the 80's after seeing what Thatcher had to offer the UK workforce in comparison to the EU right? Remember which party was the leading advocate for not joining the common market in the '70s? It sure as heck wasn't the conservatives. If both Cameron AND that horrible cancellor of ours are saying it would a crazy and very dangerous idea, so be it and highly unusuall, I'd have to agree with them...Just show us some proof that this economic fairytale you suggest could happen with brexit would actually be reality? you can't.
-
No mate, we're in favour of workers not being f*cked over by a perennial conservative government and the lack of human rights that offers to the workers of this country. Also, as moonraker says, we'll not be that for long.
-
Yep, I look at the brexit campaigners and most of what I see is xenophobia and the little Englander elements of society but like this fellow, they tend to be loud in their "oh no, I'm not a racist" argument....For this fellow, I'd ask "why put a massive swastika on your poster then?": http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/14445878.Huge_swastika_poster_hung_on_house/

Exactly my point. Also, even if the commonwealth WAS a trading organisation...They've moved on, most trade with Asia or the US primarily now so we've burnt our bridges there. It's fantasy, pure and simple. Also, that was no threat whatsoever from Obama. He's actually been very nice to us unlike a lot of countries he's pulled the plug on trading with without telling them. Either way, the US until about 90 years ago were virtually our enemy (if it wasn't for the trade back then, we probably would be enemies) so let's not buy into this great fantasy that Churchill (the half-American Churchill) had about any special relationship. China will continue to push us around, Russia will be very happy with the effective break up of the EU and we'll basically be just a small island.

You know, technically, Kennedy is a Scottish name right? Either way, a large proportion of US Presidents before FDR were much more anti-UK (certainly Jefferson) than Obama so frankly, he's talking out of his backside.
-
And the EU will do exactly the same as with the Irish and say "they didn't understand the question, they must take it again.....until they give the right answer"...they do have previous for this.
-
They do don't they?....Look at the Irish Lisbon vote.
-
This one really isn't about being left or right you know?
-
Call me confused but was the idea of a United States of Europe a new one to you then? Because George Washington suggested it 200 odd years ago. I mean, this isn't new, it's always been the aim I assumed.
-
I think that was my point (no, it wasn't a cold hard fact) was that it implies a lot of things and I assumed whoever wrote it KNEW that as soon as you write "we have the right to check everyone", the implication there is that we can stop mass migration under EU rules...which we can't. I'm still voting to stay though because I think BRExit is a financial fantasy.
-
Clearly I'm reading more into it than you are.....i.e. Yeah, they can check as much as they like but it doesn't mean they can stop them now does it? My point is that it kinda implies that they can but hey, you're clearly just looking for an argument.
-
How was it "clearly" a lie...The first one was from memory then I actually picked up the leaflet and quoted it...So why are you being all web warrior then? It's not hard you know.
-
Ten more weeks of you being pedantic then?
-
Anal. Definitely. Especially since this is a thread on the EU referendum which is currently full of spurious statements with no factual basis whatsoever....or is that a little too vague for you?
-
Nah, it's quite sad actually.
-
I said it was from memory and that was my first impression of the text. I just think you're clearly being pedantic to have pop at myself.
-
What's with the aggression? wrong side of the bed?
-
Why are you baffled? My point is that even the smallest mention of "controlling borders" is clearly aimed to appease those who want out of the EU mainly due to mass migration. I don't know what world you'd have to live in not to know that most of the terrorists in Britain have been home-grown though so I took it for granted that wasn't the issue they were alluding to.
-
I did say it was from memory but the implication is that they have the power to stop EU nationals from entering and settling on mass (vis-a-vi the main ideal of the EU). You also clearly know that's what I mean.
-
I have to agree. What is a nation if it can't control it's borders in that way? I mean, I can understand why a lot of the eastern Europeans came here (better pay and standard of living....and benefits of course) but they do need to understand that we were told there would be "no more than 200,000 arrivals" which was either a lie or stupidity on the part of the labour party and in my honest opinion, I think it's what's changed this from a more minor irritating arguement to quite a massive one. But the question is, if we leave what would ask of the ones that are here?
-
Since it's not numbered, I'd say 9. But it's a little more vague than I put above (the above statement was from memory) it goes as follows: "we control our own borders which gives us the right to check everyone, including EU nationals"....Doesn't say we can stop them from entering however I suppose but it's very suggestive and kinda alludes to it.
-
I'm a In voter but when I read that "we can control our borders within the EU and stop even EU nationals from entering" in the booklet through the post I thought "what an absolute lie".
-
Totally unbiased report on the referendum from Fred the skate Dinage I see....Not a hint of a clue that his daughter's part of the out campaign at all honest
