  1. To put it simply: cutting corners so that staff can go back to work to boost the economy.....i.e whilst it's definitely a good idea to plan forward, we need to make sure it's implemented when the death rate isn't still in the hundreds.
  2. Yes, I wouldn't consider China a decent example for that but then, China isn't the only country a bit taken aback by this move is it? Obviously the longer this goes on the more costly it becomes but we need to make sure we are not sacrificing safety for money.
  3. Clearly it's getting to you. Why don't you ask Corbyn what he believes in? He's pro-Palestine for sure....associated himself with people involved with terrorism for sure (but then, name me a politician in the UK who hasn't?) an old man? yup, rubbish at PMQs for sure.......but I suspect also your knowledge of Marxism is probably quite lacking to be able to use it as some sort of an insult.....which you were clearly attempting to do.
  4. That's what it really comes down to isn't it?...You are right though, a limited number of teachers have been coming in and covering for the essential workers and vulnerable kids but I'm pretty sure most teachers would prefer the assurance of a safe workplace to return to. My dad's wife is a pharmacist in Guangzhou in China and the school kids there have to be tested again every three days.....do we have the facilities for that? She found it hilarious when my dad told her some of the measures announced here....she just asked "does your government like money more than it's people then"....I realise the counter-argument you'll make about China as well but it's a point.
  5. I see he's been caught out again....really not the best idea to put a failed journo up against one of Britain's top barristers. https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-health-coronavirus-britain-carehomes-idUKKBN22R1NA?fbclid=IwAR3vMwCYmj8w5d9DhLrfbUY7yEDk4h8-bGt3RHAH0xe7PIkLWTrbglbRCGY
  6. You were clearly getting hot and flustered with anything that resembles a negative comment about Boris or Hague....And then you go and refer to Corbyn as "the Marxist"....you just can't help yourself can you?
  7. But you seem to get very offended very quickly when someone has a pop at your tory-boy idols.
  8. Exactly...but that's fine because he's not one of his heroes.
  9. You're clearly taking insults to your heroes very personally. "all over the place" all you right wingers do is hurl personal insults, if someone disagrees with you....they're an idiot....if they say something you don't like....they're all over the place. But let's get something straight, if someone has a differing opinion from your right-wing mindset, they are not stupid, that's just you being insulting and a hypocrite.
  10. I think with positive reviews from the Daily Telegraph, that seems to be what he's doing...It's really the only way. The fact that Labour (whilst, yes, was created to give the unions a voice in parliament) was made up of liberals and social democrats along with socialists seems to have passed a few of them by.
  11. They almost amalgamate into one group don't they?
  12. And if you take insulting Boris Johnson or William Hague as a personal insult, that says more about you than anyone else.
  13. Not quite getting the difference between talking about public figures not on this board and personally insulting those that are are you? Oh dear indeed.
  14. Because it sends out the wrong signal for a party trying to attach itself to the working class of Britain. Most of whom don't have nannies or cleaners. It's just an example of how removed from the "working man" the right of the Conservative party are. Did Thacher's parents have a nanny? A greengrocer? I wouldn't have thought so.
  15. I'm not saying that now am I? You however said they cannot....also no evidence of that. And Sadoldgit.......yup, I like how the daily mail are essentially trying to say all the teachers actively want to go back but the pesky unions are stopping them. I think we can all agree that's not the case whatsoever.
  16. That's not backed up with anything though is it? Kid comes down with a cold and passes it to parents / teacher.....that happens all the time; I've worked in schools where half the teaching staff are off sick from colds passed around by the pupils. Most kids are asymptomatic or mild at worst. Of course they can pass it on. More often than not COVID-19 is harmless and that's a fair statement but the numbers that have returned or are still in childcare or schooling isn't really a big enough sample to prove either way. There's an easy solution really....wait until the death figure gets a bit below, say, 100 daily then think about re-opening otherwise it's just far too soon....or, as suggested, keep a local hotspot register then it can be monitored from area to area.
  17. Most of the parents I know of are bricking it having to send their kids back. It's the government who want them back so mummy and daddy can continue being good little taxpayers and earn their rich mates some money....I grant you though, this still doesn't beat the Mail's "Hurrah for the blackshirts" front page.
  18. If that's her, she's aged badly!.....Clearly not been taking those age-defying pills the Mail advertises. In all seriousness, the unions represent the teachers; they're not against their own members and anyone knows of a 4 or 5 year old that can socially distance....give them an award.
  19. At least you've changed the title from "the death of the Labour party".
  20. This one is interesting...usual stuff from the Daily Mail:
  21. Not quite getting it are you Ducky? Starmer didn't make up this rule did he? If a Labour leader made up that rule you'd be up in arms with disgust.
  22. At least his middle name isn't Charlton Athletic!
  23. The point is: it seems the argument for a nanny or a cleaner to come around as opposed to parents come from another world; certainly not one that most of those northern working class voters would be familiar with and would say "if Mr Rich man can have a stranger come around and do the jobs he can't be bothered to do, why can't I see my parents?" it's an emotive issue and I understand how that may come as alien to some in government and they probably think nothing of having a nanny or a cleaner but it just doesn't chime with most people in this country.....it's kinda like one of the first industries allowed to open up being estate agents...who's main job is going into people's houses. It just seems very 80's.
  24. Ah, the old "put upon rich" line. I wouldn't know; I've never had a nanny or a cleaner.
  25. Pretty sure it's not Labour's shortcoming's we're discussing. But yep, it's COVID-19 we should be talking about, Britain during it; a country where you can have your nanny or cleaner visit your house but not your mum or dad.....Sounds incredibly Tory.
