  1. I was at the Mayflower and at the match in 76. Really enjoyed the 40th celebrations, enjoyed the event at the Mayflower but thought it played too much on rivalry with them down the road which to me wasn't necessary. Jim McCalliog still looked very fit and Hughie Fisher never seems to age a day.
  2. Totally jealous this will be some achievement hope the TV schedule doesn't mess your plans up too much. Good luck with the trip and look forward to reading all about it.
  3. Embarrassing that the local paper cannot get their facts right I would complain to the editor. They never even used to get the expected team right either, remember one issue they published in which we had two goalkeepers playing in our team.
  4. Not knowingly clicked any opt out links on their emails, they said I have made several complaints about receiving their emails but again I haven't.
  5. I used to receive regular updates from the clubs, i.e. newsletter, pre and post match emails etc., but I haven't received them for about a month now. I contacted the club and they investigated the problem for me and have said that the reason was because I have made several spam complaints about their emails and it is now illegal for them to send me emails. The only option is for me to use another email account. I have never complained about spam emails so not sure how this has happened, I don't really want to open another email account and would prefer for them to use my original email address, is there anyway we can get around this.
  6. RIP Jillyanne very sad to hear this news.
  7. Why did Pelle run straight off the pitch after the game the rest of the team stayed to applaud the crowd, seemed he couldn't get away fast enough.
  8. I wish we could get him back, he hasn't looked the same player since he left. Would love to ask him if he made the right decision as he hasn't progressed at all, in fact gone backwards.
  9. Listening to Talksport on way back from Stoke it was mentioned that Southampton are Kingmakers of the PL. We could decide the top and bottom 3 as we still have to play Leicester, Man City, Tottenham, Newcastle, Villa and Palace. If we could choose I would like to see Leicester champions, followed by Man City and Spurs in third place. For relegation, Newcastle, Norwich unfortunately would have liked Villa to survive but think that is too late for the m now.
  10. Cant take credit for the stats below which were on the Saintslist but found them very interesting. We have played ten other teams twice in the PL, home and away. For every one of these ten pairs of fixtures we have gained three or more points - in other words at least one win. If we were to keep that up the whole season we really would be talking European form. Unfortunately, it's unlikely that we'll keep it up for many more matches at all. Our next three games are Stoke (A), Liverpool (H) and Leicester (A). We need to win all those games just to keep the sequence running. In fact it's even more bizarre because we haven't won a single game against the nine teams we've only played once. To put it another way, we've gained 37 points against the 10 teams we've played twice - 1.85 points per game. But we've only scored 4 (FOUR!) points against the nine teams we've played once - 0.4444 points per game. If we continue at that rate, we will get - wait for it - just four more points this season.
  11. No worries, wont the club send them up on the coach for you to collect at Stoke. If you give the ticket office a call or email them and pay for the tickets against your STs I am sure they would help you in that way.
  12. Have one available which I can bring up with me if u r interested
  13. Love this post and reading about everyone's experiences. Football was so different in those days we had real players who could take a knock or two. My first game was round about 1957 was about 5 years old at the time, my uncles who were both stewards in the directors box had to look after me as my Mum was ill so they took me with them. I had to sit in the box and be quiet and behave. Sat next to this lady who held my hand so I couldn't run around, was told her name was Mrs Paine and that she was an ice skater. A few years later she was giving me lessons. My first real memory was mid 60's queued up at the Dell from very early morning with my best friend, two young teenage girls who had mad crushes on George Best. We got right to the front of Milton Road, when the ground was filling up we were pushed and nudged by a few nippers to get out of the way but we stood our ground, not many young girls went to football at that time. Remember us losing the game 2-3 and and Best didn't score.
  14. Cut and pasted from an interview with John Bailey I loved Peter Osgood (Chelsea) centre forward, When he played for Southampton I had my troubles with him whilst I was at Blackburn, him along with Steve Williams. When I used to go down to the Dell their fans never forgot me as I had all sorts of things thrown at me. I used to hate going down there.
  15. John Bailey again, no 1 on my list for reasons stated above, the most hated man in football IMO. Roy Keane for mocking us when we got relegated. Adrian Heath.
  16. Its not sold out so pressure they will be on sale until Thursday/Friday.
  17. I would love to see a complete collection of shirts/kits on display.
  18. Not before time too. I am not sure why we never had a museum of some type at SMS, we did try but it never seemed to get anywhere. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-35706968
  19. Villa would be a good one and maybe the last time for a while.
  20. Glad it's not only me who doesn't understand the quote.
  21. On the old Dell site there is Channon and Stokes courts.
  22. Not the greatest away day though.
  23. I must confess I don't know much about them, currently have Virgin with Sky Sports Package but for 2 Tivo Boxes + an additional HD box, Netflix, fastest internet and phone it is costing me in the region of £125 per month. Somebody has said get an Amazon firestick as you can watch all football for free and Netflix, is this the case and what sort of firestick do I need. Done a little investigating and there seems to be so many different ones. Would prefer a fully loaded stick, have a 4K TV and Bose Cinemate soundbar. Would I then just need the basic virgin package. Any recommendations or advice please.
  24. Posting this on behalf of Herbie Taylor. This is a bit long but I thought those who knew Malc and were unable to attend this service would appreciate a 'fans eye view' of proceedings. I did not take notes so may have missed something. Herbie "I attended Malcolm Ross’s Funeral Service this morning on what was a very wet and windy day. The drive in for me on the M27 was not good. Despite the weather there was a very good turn out for the service - which was held in the East Chapel of the Southampton Crematorium - the larger of the two Chapels, it was full. The entrance music when the coffin was brought in, (carried by his sons and other male members of the family) was a lovely slow version of “When the Saints Go Marching In” recorded by Bruce Springsteen. Following the coffin were Malcolm’s daughters all looking smart and dignified on what must have been a very difficult occasion for them. Dad would have been so proud. A lady who I presume was a professional Celebrant, conducted the service. After welcoming everyone, she went on to read a few stories about Malcolm as she set the scene for the family to come forward to pay their own personal tributes. First up was Jamie, he spoke lovingly of his Dad and recalled the good times, especially when he went with Malcolm to football matches. He also said how proud he was of his Dad and how he had inspired him to make something of himself and achieve a good education. Next up were Malcolm’s twin daughters, Dani and Livvi - the order of service entitled their tribute as, 'Daddy’s Little Girls' - obviously the apple of his eye. They stood side by side as they each told of the love and pride they had in their Dad and how much they loved him, both told stories about their childhood and growing up years. As the tears welled up they both remained brave and put their arms around each other to help each other through what was an ordeal. Remember, they were talking to a packed congregation and emotions were running high. Well done Dani and Livvi. There was then a pause in the service as the David Bowie classic ‘Changes’ was played, during which those of us gathered were invited to reflect on our own memories of Malcolm. Next up were Malcolm’s two sisters, Carol and Helen. They also stood side by side and told of childhood memories, including some stories about their brothers mischievous antics and also about his eye for the ladies as he grew up! Then Malc’s brother Steve came forward to read a tribute from the best man at Malc’s wedding, Andy Gorman. This as you would expect included some funny anecdotes from the time when he and Malc were enjoying their youth with long week-end exploits, mixing drinking time with chasing the ladies, although it did sound as though Malc did not need to do much of the chasing! Then there was an interlude when the congregated family and friends were invited to stand to sing the ‘football fans hymn ’Abide With Me'. This was followed by Steve Humphries, a friend of the family wearing a red and white Saints scarf, who read out a list of tributes he had obtained from some of the ex Saints players that he had contacted. These included short tributes from; David Peach, Hughie Fisher, Francis Benali, Mick Channon and Terry Paine. Southampton FC’s Head of Supporters Services also sent a short tribute as well as signed photo's of Jose Fonte, James Ward-Prowse, and manager Ronald Koeman. The service then closed with a ‘Farewell' and closing thoughts from the Celebrant. The five offspring then stood and walked slowly towards the coffin to place a single flower each among the red and white floral tributes on top of the coffin. A poignant moment to finish off a well planned service that contained reverence and humour in equal measure. It was a fitting farewell to a great Saints fan and obviously a caring, loving, Dad and brother. I did not go up to the Winchester for the reception to which all were invited, but I did manage to have a quick word with Jamie and Dani who I knew from the time they came on a stadium tour. I told them that Dad would have been so proud of them. Herbie
  25. It was good when the ST's included one free away trip each season with the travel club, I always took up this option and used it for travel to the furthest away game i.e. Sunderland or Newcastle mostly. Never like travelling by coach but as it was only one match and used to save about £30.
