I feel that the team is missing not only Papa and Antonio, but also Wayne Thomas, Lloyd James, Chris Perry and even Simon Gillet, none of these in my eyes have been replaced, apart from perhaps Frazer Richardson who may have a presence - but it may be too late by then.

add Stephen Crainey, Fuller, Boa Morte, Euell, Delap, Higginbotham, Best, Ranger...and in the Championship Adam Hammill, Monk, Dyer, Blackstock, Howard, and even Pericard at Swindon it starts to get rather frustrating as all of the above have improved since leaving Saints.

Anyone else think that the team underperformed on "orders" from Cortese..ie the less competitions the more chance in the league...perhaps this even formed part of a discussion between Pardew and Cortese in recent days. I seem to remember last Tuesday Pardew stating he will play his strongest team against Bolton, I could be clutching at straws but seems strange for him to have said this in hindsight.

There must be an underlying reason to it, pre-season ideals? I cant see why myself, but it seems to the culture at the club. The last time we won on the opening day was against Coventry in 1999. Furthermore I seem to remember it was about 10 years since we last won on the first day when we won way back then as well!

He had bags of potential (around 2001-2002), until he signed for us!. He was from the same Paul Hart era at Nottingham Forest as Andy Reid...another one who never really lived up to the inital hype.

Just by looking at players who might be looking to move and have been released, i feel the following may be worth a look at:- Gary McSheffrey (played for Leeds on loan last season), Gary Doherty (released another experienced head), Danny Butterfield, Shaun Derry (ex skate however), Daryl Flahavan (if Bartosz leaves), Jamie Cureton as back up?, Owain Tudor Jones (looked at before for saints, and didnt really make it at Norwich, but did well for Swansea at this level)

Would be a good signing...will get us noticed more. But he hasn't fulfilled the potential he was given as a 15 year old. Much like Walcott.
