Hesitant To Post This, But Me I'm Out Of Patience
SnailOB replied to TijuanaTim's topic in The Saints
I'm not looking to start a debate about overseas fans V local fans etc.. so please don't misunderstand my post. I have seen the games this season first hand and although frustrated by lack of goals and good results, I am seeing a team that is creating chances - much more than the teams we are playing (including Bolton) and am hopeful that we will start scoring quite freely and will go on a run. I am certainly seeing players and a team that ARE good enough to beat anyone in this division This is something that i feel the overseas fan does not get to see and appreciate (not a dig !). So, i'm frustrated also but i am seeing enough to make me feel that this team is capable of winning games / league etc.. Im probably a little put more patient (not happy-clappy) than others after what i've seen so far. -
To further the debate (i'm bored this morning) We are comparing a recently relegated 'championship' side who may well have existing contracts with advertisers with an existing league one club who seemed to allow all existing advertising contracts to run down as they are trying to achieve promotion and obtain championship advertising rates. SO would guess that due to Championship status, Sheff Wed were already in a better position than Southampton with regards to existing advertisers. IF Southampton get promoted and Sheff Wed remain in League One we would then probably obtain a better 'like for like' comparison.
-
Didn't we also have loads of advertisers towards end of previous regime BUT we were not actually earning revenue from them ? Can't say this as fact as sure only saw it mentioned on here. Maybe Shef Wed suffering from same ? Not being a football finance / marketing whizz kid, would suggest that there must be something wrong with Sheff Wed marketing if they can be in financial trouble and yet still have maxed out advertising. Maybe because of financial problems they have gone cheap on advertising whereas maybe we are holding out for premium price as we do not desperately need the advertising revenue at league one prices. Maybe comparing like for like with Sheff Wed and other League one clubs isn't a good analogy to use ? As stated, i'm no financial / marketing whizz kid but as we do not have facts at hand for advertisibg at all league one clubs not sure where this thread is going. I know you like dealing in hard facts, do you fancy checking out all other clubs websites to see if they have a sponsorship brochure available for download like Southampton do and then list comparative prices (insert little winkey thing here!)

Are they ? Thought they had major money worries ?

Official Statement from Cortese about future
SnailOB replied to Give it to Ron's topic in The Saints
As i recalled it, there were a number of posters questioning Pardews position after the Plymouth game. If you have counted the posts and i have over-exaggerated then apologies. Just seem to re-call a lot of negativity of which a good proportion was aimed at the manager. -
Official Statement from Cortese about future
SnailOB replied to Give it to Ron's topic in The Saints
Must say i had to have a chuckle after the Plymouth game. Prior to the start of the season a number of posters were spouting off how nasty NC was for even considering sacking Pardew yet after 1 bad result, all of a sudden Pardew should be sacked !! Obviously its totally unacceptable for NC to even consider this, only football fans with their very 'balanced' views are allowed to voice this opinion. -
Official Statement from Cortese about future
SnailOB replied to Give it to Ron's topic in The Saints
I would disagree slightly. Think the problem is that there is no balance. Too many people feel that they have to criticise all things Cortese OR find little things that they can link to Cortese in order to stir more s**t whether there be any evidence or not. The more Cortese mud slinging there is then the more people come out to try and 'defend' him. Wouldn't say that majority of people believe the sun shines out of his a*se but do believe that too many people (mainly on internet forums because i don't know many people outside of here who criticise him as badly) are trying to demonize him. Personally I cannot see what good there is for the club as a whole if we continually berate NC & look for any small snippet of unfounded rumour which can then be blown out of proportion to make him look like a c**t. After the Wilde fiasco it is good that people question certain actions of the club and Cortese but unfortunately this is not the case. I would say that those who 'question' Cortese on here are far more extreme in their views and their postings than those who try to dismiss individual articles regarding him who then get called Cortese luvvies. I would also suggest that they appear to have individual agendas for doing so and that is quite sad. -
Although i agree somewhat with your sentiment about ticket tax, its a shame that it is this and 'results' (all 2 home league games in which we have created very many chances and been somewhat unlucky) that you feel will stop you from going. The ticket tax is totally unjustified IMO but if you order cinema tickets online, if you buy theatre tickets, music concert tickets etc... you still pay ticket tax. Would this stop you from seeing your favourite band etc.. ? As for advertising - I just don't know. Is Cortese banking on promotion and then hoping that by holding off on advertising he will get a better price next year ? If the team play well then we will appear more on TV - isn't that where main exposure is ? A few photos from the games in the Sun etc.. are not going to offer any company top exposure for advertising surely ? Are we once again reading too much into the 'lack' of advertising as a way of again criticising all thing Cortese ? Or is advertising down because companies just don't have the money especially for a league one side ? The general consensus was that ticket tax, no ST payment plan and lack of half season tickets would f**k with attendances - well that doesn't seem to be the case. It was believed that the 'one-off' shirt was another rip-off, but by looking around the town and on match days, they seem to have proved quite popular so sales seem to have off-set lack of main sponsor anyway. Seems to be more questions than answers but lets not let that stop us from trying to have another go at Cortese. He is no 'saint' but certainly don't see him as the anti-christ as some seem so keen to cast him as.

Apologies Got carried away with all the negativity........ I was there Saturday so it was a stupid mistake to make

I haven't read all the reports on this thread yet (had to stop, either that or hang myself !) so apologies if I repeat someone elses comments. I can't believe that people still think this team is not good enough. As some have alluded too, we are creating chances. The stats for shots on and off target for last 2 games shows we are creating plenty. We are certainly creating more than the opposition but at the moment we are coming up against keepers having a blinder and hitting a lot of woodwork. After 6 minutes on Saturday we could have been 4 up ! Certainly not the sign of a s**t side. Every time we get the ball and go forward we look like creating / scoring. Barnard for example had no luck at all on Saturday, thought he had a great game and was very unlikely not to get a goal. At the same time, must say that every time opposition get the ball we do look shaky. Am I concerned that we have lost 2 games - yes Am I ready to hang myself / slate Pardew / criticise players - No

Premier League Fantasy Football (SaintsWeb League)
SnailOB replied to saintbletch's topic in The Saints
i would say keep Carroll ! -
In relation to OP (and probably not the previous 100+ posts), if the club wish to make a gesture then why not. As a season ticket holder I would have no objection if members of the armed forces received some free tickets (although certain that club has already made this gesture at a fixture last season). Furthermore, if the club wished to put tickets aside at other times for, nurses, police, fire brigade, children, schools, sick children etc... again if the seats are empty then why not acknowledge certain members of our society and hopefully show some appreciation and offer some 'joy' to people. It would be better than a lot of the pure anamosity that seems to be shown on this forum recently Shame all the mods seem to be on holiday, thought rule number one was keep subject saints related, that certainly seems to have disappeared on this thread !
-
hard to explain, particularly when we have had different players / playing styles / chairmen / managers / pre seasons etc.. Its not like the club has a pre-season template that has to be followed in name of tradition or something. Very confusing and annoying
-
I saw enough last season to say that the team we have is good enough to compete with anything in this division so i believe we are good enough to win this division / obtain promotion. I don't believe the hype that we are bang-on division favourites. I also don't disagree with comment that some additional signings would be good BUT to dismiss this current team is a bit silly.
-
if money was no object i think we would be after better than tyson & antonio so i would say comment maybe valid but also pretty pointless. Also, no evidence to suggest that NC holding back, A lot of posters seem to think that AP is holding back to see what prem players maybe available. All very confusing - who would want to be a fooball fan !!

SRS/DBP the seeker of truth and justice ! Have replied to his posts in the past along same lines. Always likes to counter argue that he is thinking of all fans when everyone else only thinks of themselves ! He reminds me at times of Rik Mayall in the young ones when he saw himself as the 'peoples poet'. SRS/DBP does sometimes have some good arguments but he is a poster that seems to be suffering from the 'anything but NC' philosophy at the moment. But won't say anymore on that subject as i'm only an occassional poster and seem to have avoided most of his abusive responses so far.
-
It is right that people are willing to question NC if/when something that could be perceived as being detrimental to the club has been done. We certainly do not need another M.Wilde fiasco BUT on this occassion - 4 pages in and there still seems to be no evidence that NC has done anything ! Think thats the main frustration with this thread and some of the others. By all means, question when there is something to question but too many people are happy to take the slightest 'rumour' as another stick to beat NC with in order to fit their own agendas. Any cerdibility that any of these posters may have/had, any real information/cause will be lost due to the constant sniping. Makes me think of the the boy that cried wolf at times!
-
Whay a poor response The sensationalism of the OP stated that EVERY FL chairman was invited to a meeting and NC excluded himself and wrote nasty remarks about other members. NC is alleged to have p*ssed everybody off and a letter has been issued with his nasty remarks to all FL chairmen. And you think that only the 'locals' would be interested and thats why there seems to be no hard evidence in the nationals. seriously this forum is so agenda based recently its unbelieveable !

It appears that Nick Illingsworth has been refused a season ticket
SnailOB replied to hypochondriac's topic in The Saints
I was one of those that felt shafted by the Silverspoons scenario BUT don't think you can compare like for like in this instance. Why should anybody be refused a season ticket in this way ? I don't like all the anti-Cortese messages that seem to be flying around as alot of them seem to be from people with individual agendas BUT each case has to be taken on balance and this one is a bit worrying. -
Homebase whilst at college - only took the job for the uniform, lovely green dungarees with green/white check ben sherman shirt with brown tie - lovely ! Many a lovely weekend spent outside in freezing cold cleaning garden centre floor.

The Mill House in Lyndhurst Romsey Road, Lyndhurst, Hampshire SO43 7AR Taken from the 'pub explorer' website : The Mill House is a very attractive old traditional pub situated on the main road in Lyndhurst within the beautiful setting of the New Forest. We are a very busy pub, well known for our good pub food and midweek served in the restaurant area with individual menus for our older and younger visitors. The Pirate Pete's Playden is ideal for the children while you relax. Why not come and try out an appetising meal or stay in the hotel accommodation here whilst taking in the delights of the surrounding countryside? Haven't been there for a little while myself but when last there we didn't have any complaints to make. Main attraction has to be Lyndhurst / New Forest itself, nice place to waste half a day walking around with the kids. At the bottom of Lyndhurst 'high street' you also have the Ferrari / Maserati garage, my young boy has always enjoyed looking around there.

Cameron is another person taken in by Hollywoods re-writing of history. Maybe he should spend more time reading than watching duff movies. Shameful mistake to make - no excuses.
-
Why do you care ? Are you really bothered ? How much would all of the above cost and would it have been cost effective ? (especially considering the number of ST we have sold) Why do people who know when the football season starts and support a football team need to be reminded about buying a ticket ? Seriously the 'seeker of truth and justice' stance from you is becoming tiresome and you are running the risk of any 'serious' debate you bring to the forum being totally undermined by your anti-Cortese stance with regards to EVERY subject.

Whats Fontes english like ? Always felt that a suitable Captain is normally quite vocal and a good communicator and that best position for that would be CB or CM (but then i'm a bit old skool in that respect). From the sounds of some reports, Martin seems to be an organiser and very vocal which is something that is always good in a captain BUT obviously he wouldn't be a candidate at this time. Also, if we are looking for a commanding CM then would think it is Hammonds place that would be under threat. Think we will have to see if there are anymore signings.
