As a senior player he was probably only speaking for the rest of the team who were disappointed at the appointment of Sturrock as they had been expecting the much more experienced Glenn Hoddle. They should have expressed this view to the vocal minority of fans IMO.

Dave Armstrong the 'bald eagle', one of the most underated players. Steady and dependable. We had a fantastic team in the 80's and Nicholl was agreat manager !

Any premier club worth its salt would avoid appointing a League one manager, I mean what did we do in 2004 ?

I get a lot of abuse over my views on the failure to appoint hoddle in 2004. I think it is from poaters that want me to drop the case because of their own shame at their involvement in the protests that has resluted in the last 5 years damage to our club....personally.

Some very god points. There are probably lots of truths in what was said. However, the protests made by a small minority of fans DID have a dsiproportionate effect on the decision NOT to appoint Glenn Hoddle. The medical theory is very hard to prove. The appoitment of Sturrock was a poor decision and was greeted by the players as thus. I will concede that if GH could not be appointed, then why PS, surely there were better candidates and we did not need to rush the appointment !

Of course it is important. If you trace back our fall from grace this was the key moment. Something very strange happened when the deal to bring Hoddle back to SMS was changed at the 11th hour. Even more important and bizzare was the decision to bring in a rookie from League 1 to manage an extablished and successful Premier club. Of course, there are some fans that may well have played a part in this decision that are sitting ver uncomfortably,

The biggest skeleton to come out of the cupboard is why in 2004 we appointed Sturrock instead of Hoddle. This was the start of our freefall. However, a certain fans element would like this episode glossed over.
