Tottenham 1-0 Southampton // Post-Match Reaction
MOSaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Well, Rodriguez' run of of form seems to have dried up and RL has been muted. I can't recall too many times he's even gotten himself into the penalty area in open play in the last three games, just dropping much much too deep. Can't really rely on anyone else for goals as our attacking midfielders are comfortable on the ball, do the simple stuff well but lack the ability to execute the final pass and finish consistently. -

If we can't get anything from Sunderland or Stoke then we deserve whatever we get TBH. -

Didn't take our chances, Spurs were ****e then Gareth Bale had a chance and won the game. Thought we lost the midfield when Guly went off injured. Shaw let him get away from him far too easily for the goal, it must be said. Boruc 6 Clyne 7 Fonte 7 Jos 7 Shaw 6 Cork 6 Davis 7 Guly 7 Rodriguez 6 Lambert 6 Lallana 5 Punch 5 Mayuka 5 -
Good 1st half, doing a job on Bale so far. Let's hope we can keep it up second and nick a win on the break, they seem prone on the counter. Guly & Fonte done really well so far.

Brighton are the in form side of the four so they must fancy their chances.

The fact that De Ridder can get on the bench after a couple of injuries underlines the lack of depth in the squad.

No Schneiderlin is a big miss for us.

Heard anything about the two un-named players that we are supposedly close to signing?
-
The Bradford striker? What have you heard? I notice that his transfermarkt profile says he's out of contract in the Summer. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/nahki-wells/profil/spieler_173483.html

He's done a bit of a 180 then, as he was saying a couple weeks back that Europe had to be earned etc similar to what MP said. Now Saurez is banned for 10 games, maybe he thinks the EL will be a good way to keep him match ready during his league suspension.

Elsewhere, Tony Fernandes starts feeling a pain in his wallett.

Richardson may not be a PL level player, but the side is much weaker when Cork is not playing at CM IMO. Hopefully Shaw will recover and this whole dilemma can be avoided.

Lose to Spurs Draw with Sunderland Beat Stoke finish 13th

Playing well since he recovered from Injury, so why not? It's not exactly like he'd be taking a spot in the squad from a world beater or anything. I'd also like to see Cork get a chance, played well all season and England haven't got anyone in the middle who can put in a good challenge so we usually have to suffer watching Michael Carrick playing like a Poundland Pirlo while supposedly average teams walk right through us on the counter.
-
Dries Mertens is another quality Belgian player, who would also be my answer to the question in the OP if it weren't for the realistic part. Lens would be more realistic and would a lot to the side going forward, good enough to potentially get into double digits for goals and assists from midfield.
-
Definitely take Wanyama and Forster, not so sure about Hooper.
-
I hope Shaw is back fit, otherwise we are stuck either giving an untested academy player a debut, switching Clyne and playing Richardson or playing Cork/Yoshida out of position. Also I would give Puncheon a start, Lallana has been awful recently. Boruc Clyne Yoshida Fonte Richardson Cork Morgan Puncheon Davis Rodriguez Lambert Subs: Davis, Forren, Mayuka, Lallana, Hooiveld, JWP, Targett

IMO I think some more pace and power should be injected into the spine of the team to help us deal with the more physical sides. Lambert, Morgan, Shaw & Jos (who isn't good enough) aside, our team are susceptible to a pohysical approach A ball playing CB with some pace & power Cover at both FB positions Another quality DM, one with pace and power (A player like Wanyama) An attacking midfielder/winger who offers more goals and assists (For example Lens or if we're really willing to spend big Dries Mertens) A striker who can both hold the ball up and run in behind (Lukaku is an example, but we have no chance unless they want to loan him out again). IMO if we want to play one up front more effectively the attack needs to revolve around a player who can offer both as harsh as that may sound on Lambert.
-
We defintely need a RB IMO. Clyne is good, but if he get's injured or he has to play LB the cover in that position is either an out of position Cork, who is not up to much as a RB or an out of position Yoshida, who isn't very good at RB either. I assume Richardson will be off in the Summer.
-
Strange signing for Liverpool as he's nothing more than capable in this division. May be better than Coates, but Coates is shocking so that's no great achievement.
-
Left footed and the only CB we have that can really win the ball in the air consistently. I would hope we any CB we bring in has a similar physical element to their game, while being better than Jos in other areas too.
