IMO if he's going to be half decent anywhere its RB where he can deliver from far out.
-
Agreed. The longer the game stays level, the more nervous we get, thus making it more painful the later we concede. Can't see it being an issue this week.

If it was a game on FIFA and we quit after 1 minute, we'd only lose 3-0. I'd take that.

What we need to do in the short term, to fix the first team

Mccarthy Cedric- Yoshi - VG - Bertrand Hoj - Lemina El You - Armstrong/Gabbi - Redmond Ings Bit of credit to Stephens/Hoedt as they have kept 2 clean sheets in a row but I think this is probably our best bet at our strongest starting 11, yet it has never been played. I don't know what Armstrong has done wrong, we need a midfielder who can score and he's not getting a sniff. Long should be nowhere near the first day squad, rather Gallagher/Obafemi who have good attributes and might actually score once in a while. In reality Hughes going would be a solid start. -
We’ve become a team that is totally pointless to the league. The squad itself is clearly good enough for a mid table finish but some of the stats around us are a flat out embarrassment. Players like Austin coming out and saying we need to get rid of the negativity etc. He’s lucky anyone even comes to St Mary’s anymore. One win at home in nearly a year? There are barely any words to describe how shocking that is. No goals in 5, again pathetic. We’ve got absolutely nothing about us anymore, and I struggle to find any positives about our team over the last two years. I can’t see much changing when every stat suggests nothing is different to last year, with no signs of change.

Southampton's wretched home form a recipe for relegation

It's going to be a very dark place on here if we don't win. -
Big game this. I’ve almost avoided the last few as am so disengaged with it all, but I’ll be as nervous as can be for this come Saturday. A serious chance for 3 points, and think it would give everyone a lot more reasons to be upbeat. We haven’t been that bad recently so a win would be massive. Serious problems if we don’t. Wont have many better chances to get the home form monkey off our back than this, though I can only see Newcastle making it very tricky for us, Rafa inspired. I reckon we’ll sneak a win.

3-0 Bournemouth. Too much pace, will cause our shambles of a defence all sorts of problems.
-
Even more curious as the muppet Pelligrino only won 5 league games and none back to back. Results only ever improved for one game, then went back to normal. Complete cop out, we all know they wanted him to succeed so they could look like it was justified, when anyone with a brain knew he was utterly hopeless and it was never going to turn around.

I don't necessarily blame Hughes, the reason we're in the mess we are is because of previous failings on managerial appointments and the higher ups selling anyone they can. The problem is, he just hasn't really made us look much better. We score a few more to his credit, but we still concede plenty, have no real style of play and I never feel we're going to win a game. If we can't get a win out of Bournemouth and Newcastle (massive game) then I will be of the thinking that we need to change fast, but with our board we know that won't happen until it's way further down the line.

Top three players who made saints better since our PL return.

Never forget the deadline day we signed Toby and Mane. How things change. -
I hoped the Palace game would be a catalyst in us gaining some confidence. The Brighton game seems to have well and truly knocked the stuffing out of all of us - showed exactly what we are, a bad team.

Maybe we need relegation like we needed administration...

Pretty much hit the nail on the head for me personally. It's a rubbish league, the top 6 are decades ahead of the the rest. And unless you have very wealthy owner, (Wolves, Everton) who is going to really go for it, then you will at some point end like us. West Ham have spent £100m and are going to be no better off than last year really. I have accepted that we will go down this year or next, so what the heck is to look forward to? I have become completely disillusioned with it now, there's no enjoyment in watching us and by and large all the 'big games' are fairly naff anyway. 'What is the point' is often a question I ask and still no answer - I just have an annoying emotional tie to Saints that I will never shake off but it's certainly getting easier to care less after another predictable loss. Going down is a risk, but once we're inevitably gone will we care if we beat Preston or a Watford? Come 5pm I just want my side to win, and winning 5 in 40 games is fa from enjoyable. With the top 6 taking all the riches, does it actually matter what league we're in? None of the rest are going to win anything anyway, just playing for the highest position. I'm so bored of it all now. Change is welcome, the Saints of old when I was growing up were never great but least they showed heart. These days we just sleepwalk to a loss. Our squad is just a bunch of losers run by a bunch of deluded cowards hiding away in the boardroom. Our existance in this division is utterly pointless and will continue to do so until something drastic happens, which seems unlikely. -
They say football is a funny old game, but I don't see any surprised here. Hazard is on fire, Giroud always scores against us - so I figure we'll need at least 3 to win. Seems unlikely. Free hit, we'll probably go 5-4-1, try and stop them playing but it will just invite swarms of pressure.
-
This is my biggest gripe with the guy too, complete coward. His standing by Pelligrino for far too long is one of the reasons we are in this mess. I can't wait til he naffs off, but you just know he will try and slip out the back door when we're too far gone.
-
At the moment, it’s hard to see another three teams worse than us. Long season yes, but we’ve pretty much carried on where we left off. Horrible, horrible season ahead. Again. So much wrong with this club at the moment.
-
I think we can all agree, it's baffling that we haven't played these 11 yet.
-
I'd guess because the ones we have currently are below average, it would actually improve us.
-
Carabao cup. Do we care? Will we win? Probably not.
-
We cannot continue playing Long. I don't care that he runs about. He has something like 5 goals in 66 games - that's pathetic. I'd rather play Armstrong and sure up a bit. Not like we'd be losing any goal threat lets face it.
-
Problem is, when you have the weak mentality our side has, i can never see us winning a game. Wolves will be too good for us certainly, a point is probably the best we can hope for.
-
Definitely some kind of story here that hasn’t got out yet. Am sure someone on here referred to something like that at some stage.
-
Liverpool are in red hot form, but this is pathetic. Conceded 5 goals in the last 70 mins of football, and I suspect it won’t end there..
-
I think Yoshida should be playing anyway, but his pace is surely more preferable over the slow Hoedt (assuming we dont go with a back 5). Not that it really matters, we'll get tonked regardless of who we play.
-
We all know we'll get tonked, it's just a case of keeping the score down. Really sad state of how far we've fallen. I used to look forward to the big 6 games, now it almost feels like an international weekend where we're not playing, defeat is so nailed on.
