  1. Do we need this sort of stuff on a football forum?
  2. I am so happy to have a team we can love again after the years of despair with players who under performed because the Club was broken from the top down. There were so many mercenaries but I didn't detest them it was just that the Club was sick
  3. thank you for correcting me, I'm pleased six of the team were local; it's just that my membership papers came this morning, telling me that we have signed Ajantha Mendis, Shahid Afridi, Kabir Ali, Abdul Razzaq and Neil McKenzie this season and that the new restaurant is named after Shane Warne.
  4. Where there any Hamppshire men ibn the team, oh yes Adams but any others? Is it getting a bit like the footballing mercenaries who took Saints down?
  5. This season has been the best for years and the summer is going to be even better, I reckon about eight will leave and maybe four will join and we will be stronger at the end of summer than now even if we lose Lallana, which I doubt. Can anyone cheer Alpine up?

    Papa Waigo

Why say AP doesn't appreciate subtelty, AP found him and brought him here, who else had ever heard of him, well done AP and thanks for using him wisely!
  7. Reeves was a star in the lower league, Ron Davies was a star in the top league but they both had a big advantage over Rickie...they had Terry Paine putting the ball at their feet or on their head, week in week out.
  8. People on this forum used to moan like hell about Surman, and spread stories about his drinking which no one ever proved, why the sudden turn round to want him back? I'm afraid all last year's lot were tarred with a bad brush and I wouldn't want any of them near the place, even though he was local.
  9. Please please don't start the mad merry-go-round of managers that has been destroying us for ten years, our great days were when Ted was boss for 17 years and LM for 11, why are people crazy for instant success, it comes when all the building blocks are in place and that is what AP is doing with himself the cornerstone
  10. I'm old enough to have watched Charlie Wayman who was our postwar star but there's some guy posting on this forum under his name who is a moaning switch-off, he ought at least to change his name, Branfoot would suit.
  11. Thanks for correction, anyone know what he's doing now?
  12. Yes he was class act and at his best in the '82 season (runners up to L'pool and semi final of Cup) but LM wrote in his book (Diary of a Season) that he was hard to handle and had an attitude problem
  13. What's the point of a thread about his offsides when he's just scored twice and wasn't offside once
  14. My good feeling this season is not just because we are winning, it is also because we are a proper united club again, instead of hatreds and rivalries and the players reflect this on the pitch, the mercenaries are gone from the boardroom and the field. If we get to the Premiership those good feelings would go with us and we would compete with anyone
  15. They are due a new manager this week.......
  16. I worked in Aaussie for a while, it made me all the more desperate we won the Ashes, should I have been supporting them? Crazy.
  17. I worked in Aussie for a while and it made me all the more desperate we won the ashes, should I have wanted Aussie to win? Crazy
  18. We can guess and we can hope but one of the good things about the new regime is that it all gets settled before we know a thing and that's how it should be. No one got a sniff about Lambert, or Hammond or Connolly and they're doing fine so let it stay that way.
  19. Safe journeys all you guys, I really admire you and even more if you keep the minute's silence for one of the players that mattered to them. Remember how the Pompey mobsters barracked all through the minute silence the week Ted Bates died?
  20. I'd rather some went out than more came in, AP has made great signings, let them consolidate while removing the people who have an awful past and no future here.
  21. Year ago, at the Archers end (standing) when we played Man U we scored first and I jumped in the air and landed on the foot of my friend who was a PE teacher. The foot was broken and he was out of work a month and never came with me again (we lost 4-1 it was the match Best got a hattrick)
  22. All the previous directors who fought among themselves so disastrously have had their chance and messed up, the new owner is very wise to treat them all equally 'welcome, but pay'. It would perpetuate the old fueds if he favoured one or two of them. Besides, if they love the Club like we do they can pay like we do.
  23. Charlie Wayman was all the rage when I was a kid, I had an autograph book full of his signatures, when I got it for about the 40th time he said 'have I seen you before? ' He used to get to ground each day by a bus which stopped by the Dell, I could get him to sign just before school. He scored 5 against Leicester, he was about the size of Alan Ball but he was dynamic.
  24. Good to have such a strong bench and variety of options, when the injuries and suspensions dig in, we'll still be ok,and LJ ability to multi task makes it even better
  25. In fact it could be called 'total football'
