I remember Goerge (he was unforgettable) but the story at the time was that the club could not pay the £1000 transfer fee and the money was raised by a huge number of whist drives and similar efforts by supporters: that's the way it was and that's what Ted Bates had to cope with in the transfer market.

NC is not builing an academy to sell them, he's building an academy to win things: Oxo will stay, didn't NC say no one would be leaving unless we want them to leave? That's my hope and belief

Spending money doesn't prove intelligence (eg Abramovich, is that the sort of club you want?) investing in the infrastructure and training the newest young talent proves long term commitment and that's what we've got

With all these 'stars' collecting their pay packet for doing nowt and our home grown youngsters side-lined, you can't expect a great team spirit. Is Giles White responsible for that, or is it a policy of Bransgrove? I don't know, just asking

Judging by the small number of comments on this thread, the small attendance at matches and the team's performances, I don't think anybody is greatly bothered what happens which is sad for us cricket lovers, we're cheated while others make the money

If it means NC is getting up some agents nose, well done. He should call the tune, he's the chairman , agents have done more harm than good, our NC might even be the person to bring some sense back into our once lovely game.

Ted Bates the player was a workhorse who got vital goals but Charlie Wayman was the all time star, at least to my starry schoolboy eyes.

We are no longer a selling club, we are nurturing our own talent, we are in a win-win situation for the first time in 60 years (ever, probably) if he goes we will get £15m cash or £10m and a couple of players with premiership experience and if he stays he will be with us in the Premiership and worth twice as much. Oxo's got a lot more than 'just' pace and dribbling. he's a goalscorer as well and he's physically tougher than Theo so if he was worth £10m and another £5m fir Oxo....and by the way, biggest transfer disappointment--when we sold Charlie Wayman to Preston (just to let you know how old I am!)

If Saints sold any of Chamberlain, Lallana, Fonte or Morgan I would be very upset indeed because we are building a squad who play together and who belong to us which is better by far than big imports who may or may not gell but I take Pilchards point: we don't need to be a selling club for the first time (ever?) and it's a good feeling

The exciting thing about Saints now is not just that we actually win matches but that we are laying the foundation for an entirely different model of club, we are not so much buying a winning set up, as producing it, another reason NC won't sell Oxo in a hurry, he and the others to follow are the future, its gonna be fun!

Someone says its going to be an exciting summer but Nigel says the squad doesn't need much change, I'll back Nigel. Our new club is not a selling club and it's not going to be a big buying club it's going to set a realistic business model and be an example of what's required in all football, and we'll win matches as well because the players will be secure
