I think the issues with England not picking Saints players keeps reverting back to MLT. He was treated badly & Venables set him up to fail in Ireland to keep the fans off his back. The only other player that has not been mentioned who I feel did deserve a chance was Matty Oakley. At his best he kept the ball better than most other players in the PL. Can still remember England getting beat by Australia which was Beatties debut. He wasnt great, but Lampard was woeful. Then the Italy game that Matty played in where he became the scapegoat & Campbell & the keeper were at fault for their goal. Press has a lot to answer for IMHO!!

I was going to say just Lallana, but I think one of our full backs will go too!! Can still see the Chile game when AL & JR went to start to press the full backs high up the park as the y would for us, but stopped themselves as it was a diffrent strategy from Hodgson. Maybe England could learn something from Saints??

Just proves the players have all the power. Whatever his ability as a player IMHO he has very little integrity!

Needs to gain more upper body strength IMHO. Expected though as he is only 18. Game time can only help him.

Lots of Wolves fans I know say they were relegated because all the players they had were of a similar quality. Lots of players, but very few outstanding (if any). I would love to sign a striker, BUT only if he is better than what we have! Therefore I expect us not to sign anyone until the summer. Not the end of the world, but would that be only 3 players we signed all season? Not very many players, but all Internationals.

He was out of his depth in the PL, but was important in gaining promotion. When my lads were mascots he could not have been more helpful & friendly with the lads & I will always be grateful for that. Good Luck Danny.

Been thinking about this. Stephen Lansdown WAS a client of mine for a number of years. Hes a very smart cookie. An accountant by trade who set up Hargreaves Landown. Ive actually been to the football with him a couple of times. It doesnt sound like the kind of thing he would say. The word 'cheats' in particular.

It's not!! They get the lads to play & be aware of space. Interestingly it's Crewe who take the biggest, quickest & strongest nearest to us.

That's different than Man Utd where my youngest lad went. They were always telling the lads what they were doing wrong. In fact they gave him (6 years old) a yellow card for a fair slide tackle. He was completely bemused. Never forget the first thing they said to them "we don't shoot, we don't pass & we don't run" kids told to beat 3 other players rather than pass! Opposite of what I was told - run into space, pass when surrounded & move. He hated it that much he asked to stop!! He's happy at Stoke now.

What does football mean to people? What does Saints mean? To me, it's 3 generations of Saints fans travelling 190 each way talking nonsense & spending time together! I don't give a flying **** about the PL, Championship, CL etc I know a fan of Accrington & he still loves his football. Me, my dad & my lads spending time together is what it's all about!!

Some of the stuff on here is so ridiculous. It's all speculation. Cortese did an excellent job, but was not without his critics. He was/is ruthless? I have personally met people who have experienced his temper. I know nothing about KL so can't comment on her ability to lead. However many very wealthy people have a number of businesses they own. They have trusted leaders who report to the owners on progress etc. If KL wants to be involved she is more than entitled to do so - it's her business. Having slept on this I can't stop thinking Cortese's behaviour smacks of spoilt child. In my experience of this situation one or two of his closest in the firm will know. That would be Reid & MoPo IMHO. You can also question his focus through that period too. If it's BS then we have to hope she is committed to finding a replacement very soon. It all seems very strange & most definitely NOT ' the Southampton way!' Never forget how utterly ruthless NC is & was. Very worrying, but I supported us before NC, bought a season ticket in L1 & will do so again if the worst happens.

Just in. Enjoyed it. Don't think we learnt much. Joss is woeful. Yoshida a bit better. Great to see us score from outside the box! Inge roasted Joss for the second. Inge looks a better player than Barnard, Sharp & Lee, but not sure he is better than what we have. He also looks as though he wants to play in a two up front & that does not suit us. Home tie against Rochdale or Huddersfield or Preston please.
