Their 3rd goal was embarrassing. Even my 8 year old was shouting 'tackle'.........................
-
That 3rd goal was absolutely shocking. The worst period of play under Koeman. Excellent 30 minutes at the beginning & last 5. The rest appalling. Yoshida makes a mistake every solitary game. I am normally a half full type of chap, but for the third goal all of us are shouting for them to Saints to make a tackle................... That said, the first is offside. The Rojo kick on JWP would have been a penalty at OT & Clattenburg would have booked Morgan for the challenges he made today if he played for Saints.
-
Typical Saints signing. Young enough to improve & add value if we sign him. FWIW, I can see him staying & replacing Fonte eventually.
-
Clattenburg as ref & Friend as 4th ref on the line doesn't bode well......................................................... Therefore 2-1 to the rags unfortunately. Think we have won a maximum of 2 games when he is in charge. Some great stats you can find on the Web of our first season back in the PL that suggest him & Howard Webb made more mistakes in favour of opposition than is within the standard deviation of what you would regard as normal. In other words, it questioned their neutrality to Saints. He was absolutely shocking at Stoke last season too.

Is "The Southampton Way" of playing obsolete?
corky morris replied to dubai_phil's topic in The Saints
So if 2 teams both play the counter attacking style of football, what kind of possession stats will you get?? 50/50? We conceded goals from our corners a number of times this season. That has nothing to do with possession. Styles change as time progresses. Opponents get used to a style & counter it. The style then has to evolve with time & the players available. I would rather have the ball than not. I understand its pretty useless in the defensive half. Ive asked City fans what the difference is this season & unsurprisingly its Sterling. His ability to turn defence into attack & run directly causes the opposition more problems than Navas etc. (They also mention Toure not sulking too). FWIW, I think our team lacks pace in attack. Mane has it, but sometimes has the touch of tree. The Southampton way evolves........................simple! -
UA also making the Telford Utd kit in the Conference North

The Rickie Lambert chant was louder than anything they had game apart from the pre match song.

We never looked like losing. Free header from Dawson & Stelenburg dropping the ball aside we were never troubled. Problem is, we didn't really look like scoring either. VVD was easily our MOM. Can't believe Batman thought Tadic was. Even Wanyama was better than him. Pelle had a poor game, but didn't get any service. I would have tried Long or Juanmi. Surprised Romeu was dropped. Clasie will come in for JWP when fit. We lost here last season so a point gained.

SAINTS 2-1 Oxford Utd: Behind Closed Doors Friendly.

The penalty Tadic took at Burnley last season was terrible! -
All this ignores the salaries of players. You can't look at these numbers in isolation. Gross, Net only show part of the picture. FWIW if we stay in the top 10 & outside the top 4 we will lose a quality player to two each summer. Top 6 pay double what we pay in wages. I actually think that's the business model. Buy in potential, if they succeed we sell half way through their contract. VFTT is right, we don't appear to do big ticket transfers very well!!

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 3-0 Norwich City
corky morris replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Romeo was excellent. Targett, JWP were a lot better. Davis not playing well at the moment. Basong never let go of Pelles shirt. What's he got to do to get a free kick? Still think we give the ball away too easily. Still concerned. Hero me free header being an example of why. Pleased with 3 points & 3 goals. -
Just like The Rose Bowl!!

How do you make a quality player stay at Saints!

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 1-1 FC Midtjylland

Seriously??? Lost count of the amount of times Wanyama gave the ball away. Mane lost control on at least 3 occasions when it was easier to trap the ball................... -

We lack width, Clyne & Bertrand used to go past players, Targett tried, but not got the pace. I thought Mane, Wanyama & Fonte were way below par. Wanyama's pasing was terrible. Three times Mane lost control of a very simple ball. Fonte was at fault for the goal (horrific header) & got beaten in the air time after time. Pelle worked hard without any refereeing support. Jay Rod should/could have used his left foot on a couple of occasions & messed up using when shooting. Romeu did well until the booking. That said we had loads of possession & had 23 shots!! Normally enough to win 2 games. Lots of work to do........................ -
Wanyama Transfer Rumours - Summer 2015 Edition
corky morris replied to brett24's topic in The Saints
Why are we in the slightest bit surprised????? -
The big 5 plus Spurs constantly try to unsettle players at all other clubs so they agitate for a move. At last some X-PL players are coming out & saying that the big 5 plus Spurs get the decisions from referees (Etherington, Shearer etc on twitter). The CL/PL is designed to keep the big clubs happy, just look at the seeding for the draws. Its self perpetuating b o 11 o c k s & I am not even sure why I bother with it anymore. Players would rather sit on the bench & bank the cash than play the game they must have once upon a time loved to play for playing sake. I am not in the least bit surprised other clubs are interested in Mane. The boy as bags of potential, but is a long way from the finished article. If he goes, he goes. Nothing we can do about it whilst our best paid player is on £60k pw. There is no integrity in the game. The arrogance from the likes of Mourinho etc is embarrassing. Two games into the season & im already ****ed off with it. Right, I will go & slit my wrists now!!!

Davis passing was total doo doo today!!

Sants 0 - Everton 3: Post match rage thread
corky morris replied to Bewildered's topic in The Saints
That was the worst we have played under RK. He set us up wrong IMHO. Playing Long, Pelle, Mane & Tadic was a mistake. Wd got overrun in midfield ax though 4 stood up front. Tadic, Davis, Yoshida, Long & Soares all had poor games. Davis passed straight to Everton on 4 occasions in the first 30 minutes. His first corner was shocking! Tadic was just awful. Soares never went past the full back & stopped as soon as he had the ball in their half. Lots of mistakes from Yoshida. Wanyama had a free header & headed over for the second week running. Very very poor at least the 185 mile drive home was smooth!! Can we please have Morgan back!! -
Really enjoyed the game. Thought the substitutions made us lose our shape, but we rode our luck with a great save from MS who did well in nets. Big Vic was excellent, Mane a constant threat & I thought Yoshida did well. Clasie mis placed a number of passes & if Tadic doesn't improve I can see, Jaunmi, Jay Rod & Long pushing for his place in the side. If we need another defensive midfielder then I thought Nakamba did alright for them & Pantic looked a player in the short time he was on. So proud!!!

Pochettino interview: Spurs are a bigger club than Saints, etc.
corky morris replied to Singapore Saint's topic in The Saints
He got a 5 year contract at a club where they usually last less than 2. That's how desperate they were to get him! Makes perfect sense to me!!! -
Tweets suggesting we have bid for Filip Djuricic.......................Personally not one I would persist with, but heyho.

Saints are right to follow 'showcase club' path to progress
corky morris replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Certainly agree with what you have written, but would add that the elite teams as you call them will continue to call the shots as long as they continue to pay the top wages & their status is perpetuated by the media (Sky in particular), Journo's & their arrogance. I certainly wish we could break the top 6, but think the odds are so stacked against us (or any other team) to do it that we can fast forward 10 years & still see the same elite clubs. -
Do other teams see us as weak & ripe for picking?
corky morris replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
Samuels is a total arse. Of course we are vulnerable. Our top player earns £60k a week. A poor player at Spurs, Scouse, Rags, Citeh, Arse & Chels earns £100k a week. Whats not to get? From what I hear Delph is earning six figures too. I wonder if all of the players that left were on £120k pw at Saints if they would have gone? Never know, but I doubt all of them would.......................................... Fed up of saying it. The PL is all about the Top 6, the media, tv & journo's only care about them too.............its all a bit pointless!
