Lovren, Alderweireld or van Dijk?
Cheam Saint replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Can we have VVD and Fonte with Toby at right back? Imagine that defence with Bertrand at LB and Forster in goal. Add in a firing Big Vic in front of them and we'd have the tightest defence in the league. -
Can't believe no one's thought of using the Vanarama advert. With no Vic in midfield it's not working, So what are we going to do? With no Vic in our side we're conceding, So it's time to get you know who. Wanyama! Wanyama! He's the one to call, Wanyama! Wayama! He's the one we want to score!

would SRL have enjoyed the rest of his career more here?

Or getting a chance to guarantee first team football in the twilight of your career and stay in the England squad. -

Wouldn't surprise me to see him on loan at Palace in January. They need a decent striker and Pardew knows him and will play to his strengths. -
Does anyone remember a band playing? I think it was the first live sky game v Man Utd in 1992. I think it was Crowded House or Wet Wet Wet or some other drivel. Whoever it was looked at bit miffed at the poor reception they got from the crowd. Sky didn't stick with that experiment for too long. They also had fireworks at the end which went down like a lead balloon when we'd just lost 1-0.

Actually, Arsenal tend to sell out League Cup games when they have reduce pricing. They had 58000 when they played Coventry a couple of years ago. Should be a good atmosphere.

Just been confirmed on sky sports news

Need a 3rd kit away at Stoke and Sunderland though.

Dusan Tadic - DONE DEAL, official and everything

Can you do a FM comparison with Lallana? -
Agree with this. Shilton was the best goalie in the world when he played for Saints. Don't think any other player can claim to have been the best in their position. People rightly talk about MLT single-handed keeping us from relegation. However, I suspect Shilts did the same in his last couple of years with us. Every week he would make some unbelievable saves.
-
He should have stayed at Saints for his own development. Looking at the Arsenal stats in the programme last night, it really hit home how few games he's played for Arsenal. Our other young stars should take note. In 2.5 years, Alex Chamberlain has made 42 premiership appearances for Arsenal. Of these, more than half were as a substitute In contrast, in just over 1 year since his debut, Luke Shaw has already made more appearances with 45. Some might argue that Alex has benefited from Champions League football. However he's only made 8 appearances. There's no doubt that playing games is the best way to develop. I believe that Chamberlain would be a better player now if he had stayed put.
-
When you think about it, he was sacked for consistently finishing mid-table. For what followed later, that was a pretty good record.
-
Who knows? If another CB gets injured he could get on the bench.
-
Yeah, like he could only win 8 league titles.

#When Shilton joined!!

Well Shilton and Mills never played for Saints with Keegan, Channon and Ball. (One of the great tragedies is, if Keegan had stayed when Shilton left, we might have won the league.) Watson never played with Wright. Did Wright ever captain England? Don't remember that. I think the answer is four - Keegan, Channon, Ball and Watson in 1980/81 and 1981/82 Ask me again in a few years and the answer will be Lambert, JRod, Shaw, Cork, Lallana and Clyne!

Is MoPo the man to take us to the CL or only to the next step?
Cheam Saint replied to ozzmeister's topic in The Saints
In MP's first interview after coming to the club, he said he was attracted by a 3 year project. I suspect his remit is to get us to the Europa League by then. Nicola, being completely driven might then choose to replace him with a bigger name to take us to the next step. -
When I started going regularly in 1984 it was £3 to stand in the Milton Road End and £1-50 for under 16s. Interestingly, at the time, it was also £3 to go to the cinema. The other night I went to the cinema for £9-50, yet my Liverpool ticket just set me back £35. Just goes to show how football prices have gone up in real money.

To be fair, we have been doing quite well against the teams around us of late.

Good article although it's a shame it claims that Ramirez crossed for Schneiderlin's goal. Jay Rod deserves so much credit for that goal.
-
Me too. Never understood why Chris Nichol sold him. Fantastic player.

He's got 89 league goals. One more will take him into the top ten of all time (well jointly anyway). The full list of the club's top ten all-time Football League scorers are: 185 Mick Channon 1966–1977 & 1979–1982 162 Matthew Le Tissier 1986–2002 160 Terry Paine 1956–1974 156 Bill Rawlings 1920–1927 154 George O’Brien 1959–1966 145 Derek Reeves 1954–1963 145 Eric Day 1945–1957 134 Ron Davies 1966–1973 97 Martin Chivers 1962–1968 90 Tommy Mulgrew 1954–1962 Anyone know where he sits in the 'goals from all competitions' list?

We look fitter than them

I think this is the most telling point in the whole of MP's interview: “The chairman, Nicola Cortese, called last week and invited me to become manager and promised me a 2½-year project, which excited me." Nicola's single minded vision was that NA was brought in to do a job and get us to the premier league. Now he's no longer needed and MP has been brought in to do a job and get us to challenge for Europe. After that, who knows, but I suspect the plan might be to bring in a top, top manager to compete in the Champions league. Wishful thinking perhaps, but this does seem to be the vision.
