Agree with this. Shilton was the best goalie in the world when he played for Saints. Don't think any other player can claim to have been the best in their position. People rightly talk about MLT single-handed keeping us from relegation. However, I suspect Shilts did the same in his last couple of years with us. Every week he would make some unbelievable saves.

He should have stayed at Saints for his own development. Looking at the Arsenal stats in the programme last night, it really hit home how few games he's played for Arsenal. Our other young stars should take note. In 2.5 years, Alex Chamberlain has made 42 premiership appearances for Arsenal. Of these, more than half were as a substitute In contrast, in just over 1 year since his debut, Luke Shaw has already made more appearances with 45. Some might argue that Alex has benefited from Champions League football. However he's only made 8 appearances. There's no doubt that playing games is the best way to develop. I believe that Chamberlain would be a better player now if he had stayed put.

When you think about it, he was sacked for consistently finishing mid-table. For what followed later, that was a pretty good record.

Who knows? If another CB gets injured he could get on the bench.
