    Coronavirus

The sheer awfulness of this country 's handling of the pandemic is exemplified by very recent experiences of 2 family members. One has gone to Barbados. 3 days before leaving the UK they had to have a a negative Covid test. Results from this test had to be submitted online. On arrival they were strictly shepherded through the airport and went to an approved hotel (the number of the taxi in which they travelled even being recorded for possible future reference) where they were placed in quarantine. They then had a 2nd Covid test and were only allowed out of quarantine on a negative result. For the next 7 days they had to take their temperature twice a day and this was checked by a Government tracer but after then they were restriction free. Another family member returned on 18 December from Spain - one of the few countries with a worse Covid rate than the UK. They knew the rules and have self isolated for 10 days. No tracer has asked them to do this. Nobody has contacted them to check they are quaranting. No contact tracer seems to be aware that they exist. Barbados and the UK are vastly different in size and complexity. Being a small island with a fraction of the population of the UK gives them many advantages. But the UK has much greater resources and has spent over £22 billion on a track and trace system which does not seem to work effectively. The UK Covid death rate per 100,000 people is over 106. In Barbados it is 2.44. A top rate track and trace system, easy to understand does make a difference.
  2. One thing that is now true is that the Brexiteers have achieved what they wanted. They have the hard Brexit which even satisfies Farage. Apparently we now have to expect a few "bumps in the road". God knows how long and how extensive these will be. God knows what damage will be done to the British economy, the union and to personal rights and freedoms. If Brexit turns out to be a shitshow and the "bumps in the road" turn out to be huge potholes there can be no excuses from the Brexiteers. This isn't BRINO. This is what they wanted. Lets just hope that they own up to it when the time comes.
  3. Clearly if you run a tinpot company selling poison you find this sort of thing funny.
  4. That Nigel is a truly amazing bloke. The deal hasn't been formalised yet and runs to over 2,000 pages yet he says that it is ok. He may have been one of the Donald's cheerleaders but he must be a genius when it comes to reading 2,000 pages of legalese and working out all the implications. (The same can also be said about JPM's analysis).
  5. Although the Premier League are being so unfair to Liverpool with substitutes its nice to know that the greatest fans in the world (no not Pompey they are the bestest) are still able to watch the best team in the world. Now only them and Everton have that advantage. I am sure that Klippity will acknowledge the advantage that this gives them.
  6. No don't you realise? Anyone who disagres with Brexit is a traitor. Fuckwit Missile said so. He is never wrong. Deutsche Bank have gone bust and the EU has disintegrated - just as he said that they would.
  7. My thoughts exactly
  8. Nah. Controlling a couple of tons of horse power going at speeds of 30 plus mph several times a day is more onerous. 🙂 Tbh. I don't care who wins as long as it isn't Henderson!!
  9. I think there is more athletic prowess in horse racing than in sitting in a high speed car.
  10. Voted for Holly. She won't win but I want racing to get the higher profile. Think that the tax dodger will win it.
  11. I live some way from the south coast but I can hear Ducky's snorts of derision about the programme from here. "2 birds presenting / one of them black / one of the nominees a bit of totty jockey / non white people doing a vox pop on Jordan Henderson" .... and that is in the first 30 minutes of the show. It would never have happened in the 1950's!!

    I recently read an interesting comment - this country got Johnson and May the wrong way round. After Cameron walked away from the Brexit mess, Johnson could have come in with his swagger and bluster and sorted it out . He had called for Brexit so could implement it. His hard negotiating style may have had more success than May's "Brexit means Brexit but we are not really certain what we want " style. Let's face it even he couldn't have made the clusterfuck anyone worse than it is now. Then when the country needs the diligent, thoughtful, conscientious approach to the pandemic, which was May's hallmark we get the buffoon. "It ill be over in 12 weeks / Squash the sombrero / Back to normal by Christmas " U turns all over the place and a country with one of the worst Covid death rates / economic upheavals. We have a PM who doesn't like to say No when we need a leader happy to make unpleasant decisions. Again the mess couldn't really have been any worse under May. If only .. if only ...;
  13. Thanks. I agree entirely with you. I have had a much smaller bet at those odds. I see that the bookies also have Palace at long odds (albeit shorter than us) to beat Liverpool . Crazy odds.

It is sad but perhaps inevitable that the Government's handling of the pandemic gets seen through a political prism. I have no love for Johnson and believe this current Government to be incompetent . I am just grateful however that he and not Corbyn won the last election. I dread to think how a Corbyn led government would have handled things.
  15. Come on. We all know that degrees from Pompey Poly were not very difficult. Did you go to a proper university?

Junior Tame teaches. He has just being the same things to me. Williamson's and his Department's lack of competence is absolutely beyond comprehension.
  18. In my opinion it has to be this:
  19. We will never win this league if we fail to beat the relegation candidates. 😁😁
  20. The land of make believe ??
  21. I think the weirdo would only be happy if the Government were to spend money buying poisons from him.
  22. Thanks. Of course it was Wolves. My bad. I will edit.
  23. I was just listening to 5 Live's commentary of the Wolves / Chelsea match. Wolves were awarded a penalty which was then overruled by VAR. According to the commentator this decision would have upset "the supporters of Liverpool and Tottenham." It also upset me as Chelsea would go over us in the table if they got anything out of the match. My immediate thought was why didn't the commentator mention us along with Liverpool and Spurs as being upset at Chelsea's fortune? Is the idea of Saints contesting the League title so far fetched? How far can we go this season? Is this one of those seasons like 2015 / 16 when Leicester surprised everyone by winning the League? Many of the "usual suspects" are not having good seasons. Unlike the last couple of seasons there is no team dominating. A lack of European football and an early League Cup exit are factors in our favour. Our squad is thin but we were able to withstand the injury to our talisman Ings. Our record since Project Restart is excellent and the team is only getting better. Can we possibly dream that we could win the League this year? My view is that the next 2 matches will show how far we can go. Arsenal are currently poor but a win at the Emirates is never easy. Man City are currently under performing and this may change on Saturday. If we get 4 points or more from the next 2 matches, I will start to dream.
  24. Another similarity between Trump and our own weirdo: https://www.axios.com/trump-treason-russia-investigation-new-york-times-e1660029-c73c-4809-8bd5-8988f1ed4fda.html
