  1. We were in the West Stand in line with the goal. It was hit very hard and fast and hit something very solid at the back of the goal. We always assumed it was the advertising hoardings but if something else stood in the way fair enough. It must have been hit and rebounded at such an angle that it was credible a defender had cleared it from the goal line. We still talk about it now as it was just so strange nobody tried to claim it as a goal.
  2. I don't like the new kit either. Southampton is red and white stripes and I want to see my team play in proper red and white stripes. But judging by the number of people wearing them at games I'm in a minority and will have to accept that.
  3. He's a decent lad, who's worked his way up and I hope he makes it to a higher level one day. It's a shame modern football isn't more about players like him instead of the jumped up tw*ts in the Premiership.
  4. It's an easy place to park up. There are several multi-story car parks in the town centre of which there are 3 approx 10 mins walk away. You will find street parking even closer but the 1 or 2 hour time limit means you are chancing it. As already stated there is a Tesco 5 min walk away too. There is little in the way of housing estates near the ground apart from the Walcot estate already mentioned. I went to school there so I'm not going to knock it but it's one of the less privileged parts of town. Otherwise it's all older housing with traditional street parking with time limits. I'll be parking in Tesco or if I get there too late for a space I'll take my chances with a free 2 hour street place. If I get really desperate I'll resort to paying in Spring Gardens multi-storey at the back of the Jurys Inn hotel.
  5. Totally agree about the midfield. It allowed woeful pressure to be piled on the defence last night who I think actually deserve credit. No service to the front line at all. I do think a single, older, experienced head in there might lift the whole unit and consequently the team without major surgery elsewhere. I'm not yet finding much to praise Pardew for but he does seem to realise the need to bring in older more experienced players. Very impressed with Dan Harding so far, very hard working, always wants to get to the ball first and he's certainly no donkey. Rickie Lambert signing (hopefully) speaks for itself.
  6. He was indeed in inspired form and yes, it could have been 4 or 5 nil. But then it could also have been 2-1 to us. We spent the majority of the game on the back foot tonight. I thought the defence as a whole stood up well to constant pressure. We weren't defending from the front and the midfield was largely awol. It feels like we need an experienced midfielder to boss things. And don't believe Pardew's hype on the OS. We were hopeless as a whole. We only came alive when the subs came on and that was far too late in the game.
  7. If you get there early enough before it fills up. There could also be patrols checking for 2 hour max stay. My girlfriend has been busted twice by Tesco in Swansea for staying for 2.5 hours and she was in the store all that time (who knows why though?). And thats an out of town store nowhere near the football ground.
  8. Nearly forgot the Bus Station. All car parks mentioned are council owned multi-storey.
  9. Swindon is not used to that level of away support. I personally don't think the Tesco car park will bear the strain of that many away supporters. And I also suspect Tesco will put an attendant out to catch the unwary. Recommendation: don't rely on it. There are a number of car parks in Swindon and since it's a postage stamp sized town centre you can park in any one of them and only have a 15 minute walk. Spring Gardens is closest but the Wyvern, Fleming Way and John Street are little further on being in the very town centre. Town centre to County Ground = 15 min walk max. If those fill up try further afield at the Brunel.
  10. Swindon town centre is the size of a postage stamp so there's no worries about getting around in the town centre. The Jury's Inn is really very close to the ground, maybe more like 5 minutes walk. £39 sounds like a deal as not only is the hotel so close but it is brand new in the last few weeks.
  11. What a c*ck. We had a modest over-draft that was called in forcing us into administration. Concealing insolvency is a different matter.
  12. Imagine if Southampton FC went completely out of existence and all players/staff moved and we really had nothing at all left. But the council safeguard the stadium and there is an opportunity for a reborn team playing out of the Blue Square. Would it be better to: - Have the re-birth of a completely new Southampton. We keep our identity but have to start from zero. We have a crystal ball to hand and know that it would take 10 years to build momentum and regain league status - Ship in an existing and established local non-league team to take over the mantle. League status could be regained quicker - the crystal ball says 3 years this time. Options would clearly be limited and I'm sure the other fans would have something to say too.
  13. I think it would be easy for him to walk away and find a job with less hassle and probably more money. I think it's to his credit that he's staying. And if he didn't what else would be helping to bind the club together? At least he's sending out some positive messages that plans are being made for next season. Do we want to be managerless for weeks? I can't believe the administrator would want to appoint a new manager himself.
  14. The stadium is essentially useless to anyone for day to day use apart from SFC. That's not to say it wouldn't be of interest to the council or a 3rd party to rent back to the club. And it feels like there in lays a degree of security that Norwich Union are going to be keen to do a deal with someone who wants to save the football club.
  15. If this had been written about any other club we would all be having a good laugh. I suppose we should be grateful for any support we get though. Where does £15-£20 million come from? I seem to remember calculating £15m as the market capitalisation while we were still in the Premiership. I was guessing sub £10 million.
