Nicola wants better League Results
doddisalegend replied to Channon's Sideburns's topic in The Saints
With the players we have at our disposal we should beat Stockport 5.,6 or even 7 nil nothing would give me more pleasure than to see our current set up getting realistic results every week. hmmmmm so by realistic you mean beating teams 5, 6 or 7 nil? Yes very realistic. If thats your idea of realistic it's no wonder your uynhappy this season. Has anyone beaten Stockport 7-0 this year? -

I'm sorry but unless you have a time machine you can't Know that. I see posters stating comments like that as fact all the time. In your opinion substutions may have changed the game but just as easily they may not. No one will ever know for sure. -

Half of which has only been spent in the last couple of weeks. How much of an impact are Fonte, Seabourne, Barnard and Puncheon supposed to have made after only two or three matches. Surely people weren't excpecting them to slot in to a new team and start scoring hatricks within 15mins where they? -

With thinking like that it's no suprise some fans are unhappy 7-nil really ? It's not enough to win we have to win by six + goals? Also players have to prove they are really good surely. Now most of the new signings haven't had much time to prove themselves but at the the end of the day their past history is irrelevant it's what they do in a Saints shirt that counts for me. We've had plenty of players who did well for us and failed elsewhere or did bad for us but have been good at other clubs. -

Will he do any better though? I assume he won't want APs players so another round of team changes and then out on his ear if were no top in 6 months. It was this sort of crap that got us in so much trouble last time. I don't think AP should be untouchable I just think managers should be given a fair crack of the whip. A lot of our new signings have only played 3-4 games for us a bit early to be judging surely. I'm happy to give AP next season if he doesn't do the business then send him on his way but after six months just seems pointless. -

So AP's a victim of his own succsess then. He starts the season being told 5 years to get to the EPL things start slow, -10 etc people think safety this season prepare for next season. We have a good couple of months and bang it's EPL in three years the board start sharpening the knives and some of the fan base are already scanning for the next sucker... er sorry manager. What worries me is I thought NC was going to be more realistic and pragmatic chairmen building a solid future for SFC. Sadly it looks increasingly like he's going to be another hire'em and fire'em type of chairmen who wants everything yesterday. -
Who's going for a season ticket next season?
doddisalegend replied to SO16_Saint's topic in The Saints
would love one sadly 2 kids, a big mortgage and a **** wage mean I just can't afford to (apparently feeding and clothing the children is more important than football ). I try for one game a month with the nipper but thats the best I can do (unless I win the lottery). -
Enjoying the moment is better than dreaming about the future!

oh far to sensible for this forum. Good post I just like watcing/listening to saints play football it can be fun (no really), it's something some saints fans seem to have lost in they're desperate need for promotion. -
Not quite we've beaten Charlton, Norwhich and Bristol Rovers this season, all in the cups though. Now the cups are no help in the league but it does show we are capable of beating the better teams in the league. I'm slighty puzzled why we cant take our cup form into league games though.

What would people think of Cortese if.....
doddisalegend replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
So by that reasoning Marcus should be sacking NC for sactioning huge payments of money for **** players. At the end of the day NC decideds how much to spend on players not AP if we've spent loads on players who aren't up to scratch we need a new chairmen not a new manager:smt086 I notice you keep banging on about the money but how many games have most of the new signings played (2-3 for most) of the players we brought in early in the season. Harding was a free Jhadi was a free Murty was free (and mostly injuried) Connolly was a free (and mostly injuried) Papa was a loan Antonnio was a loan Hammond cost us and Lambert cost us So for half a season our expensive squad was made up of frees and the crap from last year plus to expensive signings. Since the transfer window opened How many games have we losted? My point is this super expensive squad has been together only a month so its a bit hard to judge how good they are yet. Oh and to answer your question yes for me things have changed enough for now, next season I'll expect more but this year we've already achieved more than I thought we would. -

Really !? you can't see an improvement on last season, we are playing much better than last year. AP is trying to achieve the best result possible each game, no manager I can think of goes out to lose matches. That we haven't won every game and that people are getting upset about it says much about todays want it all now culture. I surely can't be the only one who has seen a big improvement on the tripe we've been served up the last two seasons can I? -

So NC lets AP buy all the players he wants to build 'his'team and then sacks him half way through the job. Hires someone else gives him a load of money to buy a new 'his' team and then what sacks him after six months because where not top of the league if that happens my view on NC will be pretty low. Pardew needs a full season with a settled team and level playing field (which we haven't had this year). At the end of next season if Pardew has achieved nothing I'd be a lot more supportive of NC giving him the heave ho. -
Good post. Thats the way I see it. Honestly anyone expecting much from this season in August was a moron. This season has been much better than I hoped for. I've seen some good games of football this year lots of goals and it's been fun (for me anyway). Next season I (and I think most saints fans) will expect more but this season I'm happy just going with the flow.

Well said that man

Yeah thats what I said maybe you should try reading the post next time:rolleyes: Ummmmm were are Swindon and Millwall compared to us in the league? How did they get above us in the table? Oh thats right they've won more games then us. So next time some poster comes on crying that we should beat Swindon or Millwall they're so **** we're so much better than them. Maybe they should look at the league table. It's the we're a big club mentality the cause people like you to get so ****ed off. Maybe if people gave teams like Swindon and Millwall a bit more respect they wouldn't get so upset when we don't thrash them six nil like some on here think we should every match. Having said that I'm pretty positive about us this season becuase I expected much worse this year so I'm happy with the way things are going:) From your posts I assume your not happy with this season?

And these people call themselves the positive posters - no preseason, we're doomed[ It's not just no pre-season though is it, its no pre-season, a -10 pts deduction, the sale of our best players from last year, administration during the summer the total destruction of the clubs back room staff and scouting network. No other team in league one had this much crap to deal with this year. Only Stockport come close and look where they are. The huge back room staff you talk off we're still being assembled after the season started, most of the players above our station (who the hell is that anyway? only one is prehaps to good for us and that's Fonte) were signed in the last few weeks not in August. Attendances mean squat plenty of clubs in higher leagues have smaller attendances than us but they are still doing better than us. Oh and Barnard maybe one of the top scorers in the league but his only played for us a week and has yet to score so wouldn't have help our slow start to the season. No pre-season isn't effecting us now, but it did effect us for the first ten games or so, the result being the poor start gave us to much to do to get promotion this year. footballing megagiants like Swindon and Millwall - Another poster who seems to think that just being saints makes us better than the teams around us were in League one for a reason, our days of being a "big club" are over (for now) learn to deal with it.
-
I think some of the less postive posters built this season up to much. They seemed to think we would clear the -10 after four games and be top three by christmas becuase it hasn't panned out that way they've got all stroppy. Some on here also seem to think we have divine right to beat other teams in this league because it's league one and we're a big club (according to them) when we don't beat these teams by at least three goals they get upset. Personally I'm happy this season because I excpected us to struggle after all the crap in the summer coupled with relegation, -10pts and the loss of our better players. As it is we're doing much better than I thought we would, I've seen some really good games with plenty of goals plus we have a chance to actually win a trophy. Next year my expectations will be higher but this year I'm happy

As for Wotton, he was the poorest player on the pitch and actually caused our midfield to be non existant and provide no service, movement or skill. A quote from yesterdays match thread can Harding be worse? I don't think so.
-
More ridiculous than playing James at Right back? or Papa as a winger? I don't think so. I don't buy it, that highly paid professionals can't be asked to stand in during difficult times. It's like your boss asking you to use a computer with windows 7 when your used to using windows XP the basic skills are there you just need a little extra coaching to figure out the changes. You said yourself that it's not impossible you even gave an example and no one would say Barry is crap.
-
You can only judge a squad by results not by the names of the players or the cost of the team. So as we haven't achieved anything (yet) we do not have the best team in league one ever. Manure aren't one of the biggest teams in the world just because they have Rooney and Giggs but because they win stuff regularly.

On todays performance we may not, It took a lot to break down the worst team in the league. Having said that we have played much better than that so maybe if we up our game from now on. -

Ipswhich Brentford Stockport Make that three. We do have to give him more time but he has missed some good chances which is a worry. -

Game of two halves, which seems to the norm for us one good half one bad. Surely Papa has to start getting more playing time? even if he doesn't start he has to be brought on early as a sub, Papa made the difference to day. Starting to worry about Barnard, got to give him more time yet, but his missed a few good chances in his first three matches. -

Has he had enough starts to make that conclusion? Also if he's a great impact sub why does AP bring him on with only a few seconds of a game left most of the time. Not many players can make an impact in under a minute. -

Why have we signed Barnard when we have Papa? Papa and Lambert seems like a good combo. Why we play Papa as a winger when his a striker is another mystery to me.
