Now John it's a well known fact we've spent loads of dosh thus we should automatically beat all these clubs. Even without spending money we are saints so all other clubs in the division should lets us win. We should also win becuase we have more fans and a nicer stadium. None of the other teams players can be any good becuase they didn't cost lots of money and came from some other crap team. It's a well known fact that only expensive players win matches. All other teams in this division are crap and saints should be beating them all becuase we are SAINTS.
-
You're right so long ago I forgot, but just goes to prove my point to many draws early on has ****ed us. We are not actually losing many matches we just nedd to turn those draws into wins, at home I really excpect us to win now against anybody, away from home not so much.
-
Yes we dropped points but we beat exeter at home = 4 points beat Wycombe at home = 4 points Brentford have to play us at home could be another four points and thats all we need to do. Our problem this season is those teams we let of the hook early on like Colchester at home, or Milwall at home, or Brighton at home or Bristol Rovers at home. There is a difference between wanting and thinking we should beat them and having to beat them. None of the teams in this division will roll over becuase our squad cost more Exeter have beaten Leeds, Wycombe have beaten Millwall (twice) Brentford have held Leeds, Charlton and Norwich at home I believe.
-
But we've taken four points of both them. We would all like to win every match but no team does that. Win at home draw away and we are close to the top of the table. We haven't done that this season, mostly becuase our early home form let us down (to many draws, not losses but draws) I'm not worried becuase I know why we where drawing a lot at home. Now we are winning our home games getting draws away is not the end of the world. Also I believe it was possibly (it's not as you say well documented the messages have changed as the season has gone on) the play offs this season rather than promotion which would have meant a top two finish which would be very difficult with -10 pts.
-
I think 18 months is fair. To be honest I'm not sure we're having so many bad results win at home and draw away and you get your magic two points a game. Problem is we drew so many home games early on. Next year I don't expect us to draw so many home games, so the away draws we're getting this year would be o.k. (although winning is better naturally). I think our run of home games is important now. If we can show that St Mary's will/is becoming a fortress it bodes well for next season.

I know he's a skate but I think he has hit the nail on the head with his summing up of AP at Southampton. In effect could be doing a little better but should get his 18 months. Seems to be what a lot on here including myself have said. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8533781.stm

It's got nothing to do with people who only go every now and then. If you claim to be a supporter why would you stop going if we are not going to get promoted? you haven't answered this question yet. The word is supporter to be a supporter you have to support. Yeah it bothers me not becuase I want to be the saints best ever fan, but becuase I want the club to do well if people can't support the club (to the best of their ability) regardless of the teams performance on the pitch we will not do well. If the unthinkable happens and we don't get promoted for years to come how well will the club do when only the hardcore come. I want supporters at this club who are here what ever happens not just here for the good bits like cup finals and promotion. Your not bothered fine good for you it bothers me and I defend my right to be bothered by it. Part of the reason this club ended up where we are is becuse people stopped turning up when things went badly, we where lucky things turned out alright for us, you only have to look down the road to see what an under committed fanbase (coupled with awful management) can do to a club. If someone is truly a supporter isn't their role to support no matter what, rather than just the good bits. Thats my opinion and I stick with it.
-
Did you read my post? At no point did I claim to be the worlds greatet fan being plastic has nothing to do with going to every game it's any attitude of only supporting a team that is doing well. I'll ask again why would anyone stop going just becuase we won't get promoted this season? I certainly won't and if you do then f*ck I'm a better fan than you. I have no time for fans who only want to support saints if they're winning while turnning their backs the miniute things go wrong. I repeat it's got nothing to do with how many matches you go to as you say not many can get to evey game for good reasons. It has every thing to do with supporting your team the best way you can no matter how well they're doing.
-
Why would that matter to you, is yours a bit small? My point still stands why would people stop going to see their team just because they're not going to get promoted? You should support your team win lose or draw if you only go when they're winning you're a plastic fan. You don't have to agree with every thing the manager says or does, you don't have to like the way they play all the time, but you should still support them. It's got **** all to do with whose the best fan or anything like that, either you support or you don't. I certainly don't consider my self saints greatest fan I can't afford a season ticket, I can't make every game but I will go to as many games as I can and sing/shout for the team all match wether they're EPL or blue square south win lose or draw and if that gives me a big **** I can live with that.
-
Exactly there's more to being a supporter than only singing when we're winning. I enjoy watching my team play win, lose or draw. Sure it hurts when they lose and being relegated is horrible, but every season and every match is a new beginning and I go to each new matche full of excitment. Hell I saw us lose 4-1 the other week and still left happy. Call it a lack of ambition or settling for second best I really don't care I'm happy.
-
I don't see it we have no need to sell, we can play hardball with players and agents now which we couldn't do before (kenwyne Jones springs to mind). Most of the players knew promotion was a long shot this year when they signed. If we do sell we will make money on those deals allowing us to bring in good replacements (something else we haven't done much before). If the replacements are brought in in the summer during pre-season I don't see a problem.
-
I really am not as worried as some of our drama queens. We have lost very few games this year if we had had a better start this season (and I understand why we didn't) we would be flying high by now. If this squad stays intact over the summer we will win most (all) of our games at home and draw a lot of games on the road and thats promotion form. Colchester have a very good home record but a very average away record this year and look where they are. Saturday showed that we can be a very good team we just need to find a bit more consitency next year and we will be great.
-
How many times have we lost at home this season? The answer is four and two of those games where against EPL teams, we have had to many draws at home but most of those came early in the season, our team is better at home now and will turn those draws around I reckon.
-
Yeah our current home form is great but it was shaky at the start of the season, to be honest next year I can see st Marys being a real fortress with this team.
-
Suits me the plastics can **** right off. I watch saints becuase they're my team win, lose or draw FFS:mad:. The reason so many people are upset is because they've been kidding themselves that play offs where possible when we went on a bit of run they never where after our slow start to the season. It's interesting that while fans talk of replacing AP the pundits and media all seem to think he is doing a good job. The fact is we aren't losing many games but we are drawing to many. I always thought the general rule is win your home games and draw your away games we're almost there we just need to improve our home form.

Pardew - Time to act like the best team in the league
doddisalegend replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Watch as lose tonight then those sort of comments always come back and bite managers on the arse;) -
That's my take on it to. I have enjoyed this season so much already promotion or not. If we win the JPT I'll be really happy with this season. Also part of me would like to go up next season as run away division winners with a record points total rather than sneak in through the backdoor at the last second this year. Although going straight back up this year would be a big achievement all things considered.
-
No disrepect but I think some one has said that (or something close to that) about every league match we've played this season. I still think the play offs are out this season mainly becuase the top eight sides keep putting results together and none of them look like slipping up (well maybe Leeds but we can't catch them). I still want us to win as many matches as possible for the rest of the season, I just can't see the playoffs happening this season (although I won't be unhappy to be proved wrong).
-
Not a lot more in the way of highlights but Murty is one of the commentry team so we normally get a bit more pundit talk than we do from Claridge and co on the other programme.
-
You haven't heard Morgans out with an injury tonight then? Seasons over:( Good news is APs managed to get Papa's twin brother in on an emergency loan to cover midfield to the end of the season:D Actually I think James is more than capable in CM and has scored a couple of good goals from that postion.
-
What the grass roots of the game. I've actually rather enjoyed the lower league stuff this year, its been intresting to play new teams and down here there are no plastics (you know no ones a Tranmere or a Stockport fan for the glory) Plus we actually might win a trophy. Of course I say this in full expectation that we won't be down here after next season at the latest. Even the football hasn't been as bad as I thought. Oh yeah 0-2 to the saints (Lambert and Harding) after a scrappy game on a cabbage patch pitch I reckon. Tomorrow will be one of those play bad still get the result type of games.
-
You are kidding aren't you? Wembely and a chance of a trophy or Wycombe on a tuesday night ummmmm a tough desicion that one.
-
Yes it was I sat through all those crap coke league matches for 2mins of highlights and then they didn't even talk about us! THE result of the day in league one and not even a couple of minutes of air time:mad: spent more time talking about stockport and Gillingham FFS

I think we will have a clearer idea of our team come the summer when a lot of players will be out of contract. We need a team of around 24-25 two good players for each postion plus 2-3 utility players who can fill in in different postions when we need to. I also think it's becoming obvious which players AP likes and which ones aren't in his plans. Thomas has played well in a number of games but doesn't seem to be in APs plans as he only plays up when he has got no choice. He doesn't seem to rate Papa much. Gillet isn't in his plans, Holmes isn't either it would seem. Next year will see a stream lined team, with a resevre side of youth players I reckon. I think next year could be one of the best saints teams in years.
