Antonio - Will he be a saint next season..?
doddisalegend replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Oh you mean Marcus isn't going to spend his personal fortune to bring the likes of Messi here when we reach the EPL? .......................bugger -
Well as you asked the question I figured you needed the help;)

What the championship? I thought the promised land was the EPL? -
Yes your alone This poll is totally based on your own personal view if you don't rate Harding don't vote for him. It's not like this forum is renowned for every body thinking the same thing is it.

Hardly a fair comparassion how many left backs get 30 goals a year? How many vital last ditch tackles has Dan made compared to Rickie? To be Honest Lambert will win this by a country mile becuase of his goals and all round play up front which is fair enough. However I still think that Harding a player who was basically on the football scrapheap when we picked him up has proved to be excellent for us and well worth player of the season.

Interesting bit from Skate Claridge in his BBC column on Sheff Wednesday being relegated quote " If they do go down, Wednesday will be in a better position to recover than Palace. They are in the middle of a takeover that will go through even if they go down. But they will know only too well from the last time they were in the third tier between 2003 and 2005 that there will be a certain amount of pressure on them as one of the bigger clubs in League One and, with the likes of Southampton and possibly Leeds and Charlton still there next season, promotion will not be a given." Looks like Claridge thinks we might be a bit of a threat. Of course you're right though Alpine we need to keep the squad together or buy very good replacements over the summer to be in with a shout of automatic promotion. -

Probably the sort of player that would be good for a team like Bournemouth or Exeter might just give them enough to stay up another season. No good for a team trying to push up the leagues like us though. -

We're not the ones with money problems Reading are. So we are more likely to offer more than Reading if AP really wants him. Anyway a player of my calibre 40k a week at Real Madrid I think;) -

Very true I suppose it comes down to will they actually play him though or just stick him in the reserves? Or does he see reguar football with us a better choice. At the end of the day there's nowt we can do about it. I still think Kayne Mclaggon is a good possible replacement if we don't get Antonio, if not I'm sure that must be a few good players we can plunder from someone else. I refuse to get upset about players leaving this year If Markus and NC are seroius about "The Plan" they will have to assemble a good squad so I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride. -

In that case we have the stronger hand as we're not cash strapped like Reading. The money only goes so far though, I doubt to many EPL players would join us in league one if Marcus decided to put all good sense aside and really go silly with money. Look at Sol Campbell and the Notts county debacle after one game he left despite his bumper pay packet. -

A bit early to say that Alpine. I have no doubt that players will leave and new players will arrive. We don't even know which teams we will play next season. We really can't say how well we will/won't do until the season starts and we know are team and our oppostion. -

It's funny but I was just reading the Lallanna thread on here and people are saying if he wants to leave there's nothing we can do you can't keep players who want to leave. Now I come on this thread and read Reading hold all the cards. Simply if Antonio doesn't become our player it's either becuase he didn't want to or we didn't want him bad enough. If he wants to be a Saint, cash strapped Reading will sell him. -

No can't see it we're building for the future so we need younger players, It's one of the reasons I imagine Perry, Murty and Connolly will probably go this summer. -

Maybe his replacement is closer to home, by all accounts he has done well in the reserves looked good last season before his injury. Got to be worth a runout in the last two games of this season at least IMO. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10280~46142,00.html -
Reading an Article on the BBC about Hoddles football Academy it appears 80-85% of club academy players don't make it into the first team. Considering how strong our team has become at level we are playing right now. Any of our youth players are going to have to be very good to get in the team. We need good players in their prime to get us out of league one so I can't see to many youngesters getting the chance a shame but thats the way it is right now.

Readings contract with Antonio had an option to extend if he was considered to be making progress. Reading have triggered that contract extension so he's still a Reading player if we want him we will have to pay for him. Guess we will see how much AP wants him and how much Antonio wants to be a saint. If not time for Kayne Mclaggon to step up from the reserves prehaps? http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~2037497,00.html -
Well stockport didn't, they took their -10 last season didn't help them much though. If Palace do come down and if they're still in admin even without the -10 they're going to struggle. Their best players will be sold to help pay debts or like some of ours will just refuse to play and there will be no money to buy new ones (if a club in admin is even allowed to buy players?)

Yeah the North east/Cumbria version (which I watched after the JPT to get the Carlilse perspective on the cup final) do keepie ups with a rugby ball as their little competition.
-
Yeah then he'd come of the bench during next seasons game at St Marys and put six past us in the most stunning invidual performance from a player ever seen knowing our luck;)

I'm sure it's a throwback to when your a kid playing footie in the park there's always that one kid who just used to goal hang and get all the glory, but no one liked;) You're right a striker that scores goals is what you want, however if you can get one that scores goals, sets up others in the team and works hard off the ball to create space for others that's even better.

And Fuller when he was with us no one had a good word to say about him now he's an established EPL player.
-
Winchester city are trailing for new players maybe the Sydnems League is his level maybe somone should give him the nod. To be honest he's been a drain on the clubs resources we can do with out.

A very good season loved every minute off it (well maybe a small wobble watching Swindon at home). The best thing for me now though is my eight year old is a dyed in the wool saints fan. This is my first season taking him on a regular basis and he has loved it, our trips to st Mary's are some of the best things in my life right now. Silverware, a good run in the FA cup and so close to a play off place (which I feel is a great achivement given the start of the season) a really good season can't wait for the next one.

I thought we already had one in Bart.
