Low expectations? I'm a supporter what have my expectations got to do with anything. Plenty of people have high expectations and it appears they're all having a misreable time supporting saints at the moment. Honestly if saints won another cup this year and finished top six it would be a good season for me. Would it be a good season for NC? probably not, but that's his problem not mine. To be honest as a fan I'm probably in the minority but I wouldn't be bothered if we never got back to the EPL (the EPL has destroyed the english game with money IMO) quite like to get backto the championship but if we don't it's not actually going to stop me supporting saints so it's not a big issue for me. As for the name I always liked Dodd great servant of the club good player IMO shame he tarnished his reputation with some fans with his management stint at St Mary's. -

Let me see win a cup and finish 5th without the 10pt penalty or with one more win the last year finish second. Frankly Clifford if thats what we're being offered I'll take it thanks. -

Tim with the greatest of respect I think you may be over estimating the clubs wealth /resources. -

Guess where Norwich were after two matches last season? http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/LeagueTable/0,,10280~20090815,00.html Look at the top two in that table neither got promoted (one in fact finished behind us in the table) really two whole league matches tells you **** all about the table in may. -

No your right Carlisle have it all sown up already, best to concentrate on the FA cup and the JPT the leagues as good as over this season. -

You do know if we go up we still won't be in the EPL? You don't have a choice but to accept it this year or any other unless your going to stop supporting saints. Far to many fans seem to worry about other teams being in the EPL or above us I support saints what happens at Burnely is irrelevant to me. Blackpool are there on merit so are Wigan. One day we may get back there on merit ourselves in the mean time maybe would should just support the team rather than worrying about stuff that is out of our hands. Regardless of what happens this season I'll still be back at st Mary's next season. -

New mangers are always a risk but there comes a point when it has to happen. Last season I was full behind AP when there where rumours of his demise I felt he did well enoughlast season to have a crack this season at the moment I still behind him he turned it around last season I think he will this season. If he doesn't I've no doubt NC will act. The problem is there is no guarntee the next one will do any better. Howe has something about him could he handle the pressure here though? I get the feeling the Bournemouth job doesn't carry quite the same pressure about it. -

I just wonder why some do it they seem so fed up and ****ed off all the time it just doesn't seem worth the hassle of supporting saints. I get upset when we lose or I feel the team aren't trying. However I enjoy the whole routine of football on a saturday I go to watch my team and bond with my son. Win or loose I still enjoy it most of the time. If I sank to the level of depression andfrustration that some on here seem to have reached I'd give it up. Just saying thats all........... -

Well people are free to support saints anyway they like. In general I try to stay postive (sometimes I fail) but really if it upsets you that much just find another pastime lifes to short to feel that sort of despair over something your supposed to enjoy. -
Lots of interesting answers but most of the theories put forward (not getting down the flanks not good enough crossing not opening up teams etc) would surely be symptoms of not creating enough chances? That is simply not the case we're creating tons of attempts on goal but they're not going in when last year they would have. We're playing teams off the park according to the match stats (and my own eyes agree) what we're not doing is putting those chances in the onion bag and thats what I can't understand.
-
Surely Lallana provided our midfield goals last season (was it twenty?) although from wide rather than CM. We didn't have a regular CM scorer last year and had no problems scoring.
-
In fairness three of our key players where injuried in pre season and it still shows with Lambert and Lallana. Barnard played a lot in pre-season though as did Connolly yet niether seem to able to find the back of the net which can't be becuase of pre-season.
-
I don't agree we are not struggling for chances at all (58 in four games) it's that final ball to put it in the back of the net that seems to be the problem. If our crossing/dead ball delivery was better, your right it can be awful at times. We'd have even more chances but if the strikers can do the last vital bit it won't help.
-
I don't Know what Barnard has to do to get a goal it must be driving him nuts, he looked really ****ed on saturday. As for Lambert somethings not right, 3 free kicks tonight and not one went in I'd put my house on Lambert getting a goal if a team give him three free kicks in dangerous postions in one match.
-
All right it's still early days of the season but in four games a quick count of the BBC match stats suggests we've had 58 attempts on goal and we've converted three:cry:. I don't get it we're creating loads of chances and last season we were a free scoring side. Barnard can't seem to buy a goal and Lambert still looks of the pace, surely though we should of tucked away a few more out of 58 attempts? I'm just hoping whatever is missing clicks on saturday if we actually start converting all these chances someones going to be on the end of a thrashing.
-
Correct If Guly does play tonight I hope people aren't expecting to much. I doubt he has even had time to train with the team yet first match up against EPL oppostion would be a tough start. Lets hope the fans give him time something Papa didn't get.
-
This ^^^ Papa had some great moments in a saints shirt mostly in the JPT though. When he was playing well he was class. When he wasn't he didn't even look like a footballer. I'd of liked him to stay becuase he gave us a different option to change games. Having said that best player we every let go I don't think so, surely little Kevin Phillips must count as saints worst blooper on that front.
-
Didn't AP say (in saturdays match programme I think) that we want to win every game? If we lose so what? no one expects otherwise they're EPL after all. If we win surely it's a confidence boost? on the other hand the idea of a league one side putting out a weakened team against an EPL side is quite funny lets play the youth/reseves for a laugh.

Southampton 1 - 1 Leyton Orient - Post match reaction

Thats my thinking we're not playing badly in both this game and the plymouth we created a hatful of chances we just lacked that final touch/bit of luck to turn those chances into goals. There keeper was on top form to which didn't help. If we where playing badly and not creating chances I'd be more worried. -

Lets face it as far you where concerned time ran out for AP about two games into last season you've not exactly made a secreat of your dis-like for the man have you? Still I'm sure the next manager will get your support for a full 120mins before you start on him. -
welcome Guly, the youtube video looks promising. I'll hold my excitment a bit though. I remember how excited people where about Papa last year followed by less excitment when he hadn't scored six goals in two matches. Hopefully he can can adapt to league one football on a cold tuesday night and turn out to be that sort of spark player we need when things need shaking up a bit.
-
The LO manager in his post match interview sounded like a relived man. I know many don't agree with me but I'm really not to worried yet we're playing well and creating lots of chances. In the two matches I've seen we're just lacking the final touch/luck to turn chances into goals as soon as that comes we 'll start flying. I think that was Claridges point too.
-
The football league show is up i-player the highlights are brief (53.35) more interesting is Claridge's comments (on 57.13) apparently he was at St Mary's to watch the match. He said (paraphrasing) saints had enough chances to win two matches and that people at the club should have a little patience as we are a good side and will come good, said the Orient keeper was very good. Always interesting to hear the thoughts of someone who doesn't have their judgement clouded by their passion (like most of us saints fan) for saints.
