Success? you mean hanging on in the top flight by our finger nails most seasons and for many of those years it was down to Le god that we survived. If success is to be the prems whipping boy I'd rather not bother. I want to go to football with my kids and watch saints win/give a good account of themselves at a price I can afford, I'd be happy to stay in the championship and have a good cup run every year (say semi finals or better). People go to football for a lot of reasons I like the whole matchday experince and I like bonding with my my son over a shared passion.

So the money has (or at least will) dried up then? NC has no fortune of his own to invest, we will be debt free (which would count for a lot) unless NC follows the Glazer's buy out plan. getting to the PL on the clubs own assets will be difficult mid table championship team would be our place in the scheme of things while we wait for that one good season that most clubs have to give us a chance of the PL. -
Alan after winning saints their first trophy in 38 years, losing only elven games all season (in all competitions), having around 60% win ratio and finishing the seventh best manager in all leagues (according to the league managers assocation own stats), while rebuilding a team after adminstration and relegation with a -10 point penalty. how do you feel about some fickle saints fans who are happy to brand you a drunken, womaniser not fit to lead out a pub team, who had no plan B and only played long ball to Rickie Lambert, do you think a little bit of gratitude might be nice?

I really don't remember him from last time, but any sort of signing is welcome right now anything that might shake the team up and get things going. Good to see Adam trainning in the background behind our new signing on the O/S too. A fit Lallana will make a lot of difference to the team -
Are you suggesting nigel needs to re-build the team? these players were plenty good enough last season.
-
Really didn't see to much of that myself (millwall away for sure) I can remember quite a few games were we went down a goal and came back to win or snatched it the death (like yeovil last season).

haha I've heard of player managers but a chairman manager...........

Just how/why did pre-season turn into such a shambles ?
doddisalegend replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Only if they're winning. Good football with no end result is no help to the club. Everyone would like us to play like Barcelona while winning all our matches. Can a team of league one players provide that though? If nigel can pull it off great we'll all be happy but football is results driven (and AP got quite a few results) playing great passing football and not winning matches won't do us or Nigel any favours at all. -

You're missing the point. If the fans of a club like man U can be unhappy why can't some fans at our club? This idea that only saints fans are upset about things that happen at their club and have brought the club to it's knees through moaning is quite frankly laughable. Every club has fans who aren't happy even ManU possibly the most succsessful club in the country. -

So what? tell me how many saints fans wouldn't want to be where man U are now debts or no? They win trophies year in year out and some of there fans still aren't happy. If the some fans of club like that can't be happy is it any suprise some fans of a club like ours aren't happy? Some fans will always be unhappy no matter what club. To try and claim that saints fans have brought the club to it's present postion becuase some don't appluad everything our chairman does is laughable. -
A lot of sports pundits/jurnos thought he was doing well too a few managers (Danny Wilson, Phil Parkinson) also stated that they thought he'd done a good job. Now it could just be Pardew has a lot of mates out there in the press, but maybe people who have worked in (or around) football might actually rate him as a good manager. A lot of people have said Pardew couldn't do a bad job with the resources at hand so this should be the same for Nigel too.

This^^^^ football fans are the same every where. Look at Man U fans they've had nothing but good times for years. Yet they're are still those who want to get rid of their owners. go and read some other fans forums you'll find the same sort of comments you find on here all over the place. Saints fans are no worse. -
Just how/why did pre-season turn into such a shambles ?
doddisalegend replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
At what point do people stop blaming Pardew though? The team (apart from lambert) haven't looked unfit to me they had plenty of energy against Bristol rovers, Bolton and Plymouth. Rochadale was nothing to do with fitness they did what everyones doing to us at home defending in numbers and hitting us on the break as we commit players forward looking for the win. Look at the match stats http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10280~52805,00.html we had 22 shots to their six and 57% possession wilkins had no ideas how to change the match and our stikers can't convert their chances thats why we lost. -
Its the same squad though so by the end of the year we should expect the same win ratio at least from Nigel should we not? We can't judge yet but at the end of the season we should be at least where we were at the end of last season (at least 5th without the -10pts) anything less is a big fail.

spill the beans Alpine what inside info do you have for this claim? if you have info about what went on behind closed doors at the club in the summer I'd love to hear it. -
I what point did I have a go at Nigel? As I said he may achieve stuff with this team it's to early to tell (hence the might) I haven't had a bad word to say againt Adkins since he arravied (or before). I'm more annoyed by the fact people are so ready to to re-write history on a manager that won us our first silverware since 76, had a win ratio of around 54% and finished as the seventh best manager in all for divisions last year becuase it doesn't fit there agendas. No matter what you think of him as a person AP was a good manager the facts/stats bear this out. It matters not now we have to see how Nigel does.
-
what evidence do you have for any of that? thats just a load of opinion dressed up as fact. Lots of people have said that with the money and abillity of the team that a monkey could get this team winning and then use this statement to claim AP is crap only played long ball yadda yadda. Thing is AP got results with this team, Wilikins couldn't and Adkins might. People really should stop trying to re-write history to make out sacking AP was good for the club so far it hasn't been. Hopefully Nigel will turn it around only time will tell.

Have been out tonight was hoping for better after saturday. Still I'm not expecting much from this season now so I can just go and enjoy the games at SMS without the favorite tag/ promotion is assured crap gettting in the way. Mid table this year then, re-build in the summer and have another go next year and another crack at the JPT great.
-
I believe we won this fixture under Pardew last season 1-0......................... APs gone no point dwelling on it Nigel is our man and has my backing. I do wish though people would stop trying to re-write history and make out AP was a disaster of a manager he wasn't, he was a good manager who won a lot more than he lost.

Nigel said in his post match interview on saturday that Adam is no where near fit enough to start yet several games of the pace at the moment. More likely Adam may get 20mins at the end to help build his fitness or as a last roll of the dice if things aren't going well. I imagine the team will remain unchanged from saturday.

What at home? In general we've done better away from SMS as teams try to play at home rather than playing for the draw so Saints to win 2-0. Lamberts got to get going at some point this season.
