Assists have **** all to do with his ability as a defender as a full back he would have made a good winger. He was a truly terrible defender slow, frequently lost his man, **** weak in the tackle and often out of position. Yes he could put a good ball into the box but his assists had more to do with the attacking quality of our strikers and attacking midfield. Frazer Richardson on the other hand was able to defend as well as a deliver a decent cross and an all round better full back.

Is it time to give Angus Gunn a run in the PL
doddisalegend replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
Hardly it just seems odd to be picking out the goalkeeper as a problem when we have so many other issues within the squad like full backs, CBs and strikers. Also this idea that Gunn is better isn't really borne out by many facts it's another one of those cases where a non-playing player is deemed to be better be virtue of not playing. If Ralph decides to play Gunn and he turns out to be better than McCarthy happy days. But I don't come away from games talking about the keeper costing us points these days, the way I did when Forster was our keeper, and I'd rather we got the outfield issues sorted first. -

which is fair enough observation but as I pointed out on another thread to play this way Ralph needs a much better quality of fullback/wingback in the team and certainly more pace than Targett and Valery seem to have. Wingbacks have to cover a **** lot of ground busting a gut to get forward and get back again far to often last night they just gave up and left it to the CBs for my liking. -

except two of the worse culprits for giving the ball away last night were the wingbacks. I'm well aware how wingbacks work and those didn't work hard enough to get up and down the pitch as the position requires imo. -

the stats don't back that up what west ham did have was a lot more energy and a bit of pace. -

Which the CBs had to do constantly while Targett (and Valery) failed to drop back to recover their mistakes but dawdled back or stood and watched our biggest weakness last night was our two wingbacks who both had very poor games. -

The reason Antonio had so much freedom is because Mat Targett runs like he is in treacle and got done again and again by Antonio's pace. I saw Armstrong pressing plenty last night. -

Yeah I'm really not sure why people have an issue with McCarthy he is a decent competent keeper, he is no world beater for sure, but he pulls off plenty of good saves no keeper saves everything. Out of the whole squad the one area I'm not worried about is GK. -
Fox was a **** poor defender in the championship he was lucky enough to be in a team that attacked most of the time and scored a lot of goals which covered up his weakness got found out in the PL though having said that he was better than Targett whose only redeeming feature is the occasional nice cross we really need to upgrade our fullback/wingback options to get the best out of Ralph's style.

I'm assuming he is off in January. Only reasons to to leave him out and play Valery ,if he is fit, is to not injure him before a move or disciplinary reasons either way its not good for us unless we have a good replacement lined up.

Not sure West ham where all that certainly nothing special mainly they just seemed to be fresher with a bit more energy and pace than us. I was just looking at the stats and the game was pretty evenly balanced west ham had a few more off target shots, slightly more possession and a few more passes but the passing accuracy and shots on target where the same biggest disparity in the stats WHU saints fouls 3 10 yellow cards 0 2 I thought the ref was having a laugh I can't believe how many poor decisions he made last night. -

Big old wake up call Ralph isn't a miracle worker after all. Generally we just looked jaded and tired the pressing seemed to tail off after about 15 minutes and the players just seemed to be slow to move the ball and made bad decisions all night, passing was very poor all over the pitch. To concede from your own corner is ****ing criminal. Worse two players on the pitch where Targett and Valery we got done down the flanks, due to a lack of pace from both of them, all game and they offer next to nothing going forward. Cedric and Bertrand have been poor this season but are still light years ahead of these two. I thought Romeu is starting to look like his old self and Vestergaard looked a bit better. Redmond, Ings, Lemina and Armstrong all looked poor tonight. Ref was abysmal though gave very little to either side and when he did make decisions they where mostly wrong. How Andy Carroll constantly gets away with the ****e he pulls I have no idea. -
don't worry all the fair weather fans would come flocking back if we where pushing for Champions league..

Three clubs I can't ****ing stand Pompey, Liverpool and Spurs in that order don't want to see any of those three ****bag clubs win anything.... ...mind you I draw the line at wanting to saints to lose a game to stop those three winning something that's just ****ing weird.

Do the Irish FA employee someone whose sole job is to trace some tenuous Irish link to decent players do they ever play Irish players who play in the league of Ireland?

I reckon Ralph could make the 19million misfit look like a half decent player. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

Everton fans happy on the beeb Dan Bell: Marco Silva has made the Everton team worse, so poor in defence. Steven Broadbent: Today shows that EFC are still quite a far from the Top 6 level. Silva has got his tactics wrong, never play THFC at their own game when you haven't got the correct firepower or strong enough defence. Tim M: Marco Silva’s teams’ have a tendency to concede a lot of goals in single games. It is all good attacking, it has to be controlled. Some Hull and Watford games spring to mind. Managerial deficiency??
