5 goals in 18 appearances if only Long and Austin could be that prolific.. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

At the end of the day that's the rub of it formations and tactics only get you so far. The players are in general average to poor in ability and there is nothing we can do about that now. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

Saints 1 Cardiff City 2 post match dissection
doddisalegend replied to Crab Lungs's topic in The Saints
My son and I had the same conversation at the match having gone to 1-1 with a couple of minutes left we should have just seen the game out. The draw, while not ideal, helped us more than Cardiff and then the players just lost the plot. -
How would 4-2-2-2 have helped us break down deep lying organised defences like Burnely or Cardiff?
-
Biggest problem is who is going to buy us? Kat sold to the only guy who was interested if there had been a better offer she would would have taken it. No one wants to buy Newcastle who have been for sale for ages. I'm sure our majority owner would happily sell to someone who offered him a good price. Owners with really financial muscle and a desire to use it to further a football club aren't exactly ten to a penny. Even if you do find one they need to be a bit more astute than just throwing cash at the first team like say Everton. You ideal want someone with deep pockets and ambition to improve the whole club with that cash. I'd happily see the current lot do one but I doubt there are vast numbers of (or even any) buyers lined up to buy SFC. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

why do you need a plan to carry on the Status Quo? ...the answer is you don't. The reason Leave needed a plan is because they where changing things Remain didn't need a plan to carry on as before that should be pretty evident to anyone....

****ty thing to do but the reaction to some **** head waving his arms about seems a bit OTT. Its hardly indicative of all saints fans is it? It was noticeable during the minutes silence at the beginning of the game the only people making noise where a few Cardiff fans including some guy shouting at people "to shut the **** up"...

Probably not though maybe if we had replaced them with better quality players in Jan and played those replacements yesterday it might. -

Went pretty much how I thought it would. Since Ralph has arrived we've done ok against sides who want to play and give us opportunities to win the ball high up the pitch and break on them. The last three games we've played teams who want to sit deep and either try to counter fast (like palace) or play for set pieces (like Cardiff and Burnley) in hope of nicking one or two goals. We've been found wanting because we just don't have the guile or skill, in the squad, to break down deep lying defences and we are always prone to defensive errors. For large parts of todays game Cardiff barely had a man in our half of the pitch and our players seemed to have no idea how to breach the blue wall. The squad was poor before Ralph arrived and that lack of quality is still there. Ralph has them working harder and better organised but they are still in the main poor players. All of which makes the lack of January signings even more frustrating. -
Between the red card and subsequent ban and the head injury how many games has Hoj played under Ralph? seems like he has missed a few.

Or something being the caveat without replacing him.... Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

Of course there will be exceptions to the general rule. I voted Remain and always considered myself British rather than English. For me English, Welsh, Scottish was mostly just something you used for friendly sports banter. Personally I'd hate to see the UK break up. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

Even at his worst Bertrand is better than Targett. Matty has been playing the best I've seen him play for saints and he is still way off being as good as a Bertrand in don't give a toss mode. Some players are just better than others and assuming Bertrand is willing to buy into Ralph's ethos he should be ahead of Targett every time. The only reason to leave Bertrand out is if he is unfit or being a disruptive dickhead in the VVD mould. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

I read the other day that a poll of English voters showed, that when asked, those who voted remain generally identify as British those who voted leave generally identified as English. English leave voters are more likely to wave a St George cross than a Union Jack and probably aren't bothered if the Scots do one. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

If it is a bit of publicity stunt he needs to fire his manager and PR team because they've made a right dogs dinner off it..... unless he just adlibbed it on the spur of the moment in which case he should fire himself.

Yep brexit has given the SNP all the ammo they need to go for independence again. I look forward to another messy divorce settlement in a couple of years. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

There isn't going to be riots most people, on both sides of the argument, are just normal people who will just try to deal with the fallout of a no deal best they can. It's only a few far right and left loons who seem to be itching for some sort of physical confrontation. Most likely outcome after brexit deal or not, I reckon, will be another push for Scottish independence and then depending on how that goes an attempt at re- unification of Ireland leaving a rump UK of England and Wales. We are living in some pretty surreal times when Targett is considered a better player than Bertrand.. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

So he didn't put his "very particular set of skills" to use then? Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

What quality? We have a hand full of decent players (Ings, Lemina, Hoj, Romeu, Redmond, Bertrand) and only two of them are playing regularly week in week out. McCarthy, seems to be going through a dodgy patch confidence wise. The rest of the squad is made up of youngsters and players who weren't considered starting 11 material until recently. Couple that with Cardiff most likely sitting deep, and looking to counter, away from home. Means it's another game where the onus is on us to break them down like Palace. Unfortunately Ralph's style works better against teams who like to play and we lack guile and the creativeness to break down deep laying teams. Reckon this will be a tough game to win.
