he looked two miles off the pace. whats worse,he had the turning circle of an aircraft carrier, got beaten to every ball in the air, aswell as being totally out of positional awarness. his pace is non-existant and on evidence of this game,I`d play Cork and Thomas over him any & every day of the week ! I know he`s coming back n`stuff, but if it is match-practise he needs...well,let him have it in the reserves, for God`s sake. and this wasnt a one-off either. he has looked shaky in our other matches, and Perry and/or Davis have bailed him out on many occations. five games for the reserves is what he need,to become a shadow of the player he once was IMO.
-
agreed. thought he was the only one trying in the second half, and he created some opportunities aswell. some people need their heads checked IMO !
-
well..that was a ****ty first half. Gillett has been shocking, not even a 5 yard pass is accurate from him. COME on you SAINTS,we know you can do better !

It`s about the type of football a team plays. if you need the option to have a big lump upfront to hoof the ball to,then the striker wouldnt need to run around as much. but our new philosophy is that we shouldnt need to have that option. sure,it would be great at times-but overall JP seems to prefer having other advantages, than this one. other teams have other philosphies, and so did we before. hence why Rasiak played well here earlier, and could still do so in another team. this is part of the reason why also SJ has a hard time getting in to the team. his main asset is to keep hold off the ball, whereas JP wants players that run into spaces, pressurizing and move behind the defenders..etcetc MLT was another case, half of the game he was allready behind the ball when the opposition had it. allthough not running,he was in a certain area (zone) and occupied that space. as a non-running frontman, you dont do that. Le Tiss(and the team) also was dependant on him being near other midfielders,so they could find him the very instant they robbed the ball of the other team. however,I dont think comparing Rasiak to MLT is very valid in any concieveable context, but there you go. last post off the day,Rod out !

Great ! I`ve got that one, looking forward to it. for once, this time I enticipate a joyfull experience when watching Saints on the telly
-
so you are basically saying that in a team (our team) with 10 outfield players, only 9 are supposed to be running and pressuring..Brilliant. you are aware of the fact that our whole defensive plan is dependant of EVERYONE running, and that playing a man who doesnt need to run, effectively means play with a one man disadvantage every match..? Rasiak is to lazy to run for purposes of defending, which also happens to be our greatest attacking weapon-pressuring & stealing the ball in good areas ! unless he could prove at another club that his workrate has improved 50 percent,I dont want him anywhere near the first team nowadays. well, except for corners maybe-just a shame floating subs arent allowed in this league !

too far from norway,I`m afraid..but what channel is broadcasting the game..? thanx
-
what a ridiculous statement. and (knowing you) : pleeeease dont ask why...that`s just the way it is.
-
just what i was thinking aswell. great controll of the body, and great balance ! come on you SAINTS,Blackpool are in for a real thumping me thinks ( hope)

I`d certainly like to have John involved from the start, just to get him going. we all know what he is capable of,he just needs that little rub off the green to be back to his usual clinical self IMO. also,Dyer and BWP should play some part,as they WILL be needed during the course of the season bearing in mind injuries, dips in form and yellow cards.. besides, especially Dyer has got a great potential if only he gets his head sorted out. the best way for that to happen is by playing games !

our youngsters played beatifully...Derby press

too right. if Person were here this season, with his prefered carthorses taken away from him,we`d be relegated. he was such a stereotypical, boring CCC-type of manager. yes,he was able to "frighten" the players into giving some effort, but barking at the sidelines as your only repertoire aint going to last for a full season. -
well done boys ! my last aloted post for today,so let me be the first to say: nice to have the first three points COYR
-
just blow the whistle, ref. we will play until next week without scoring in this match,FFS ! get John in..
-
come on you SAINTS ! first victory today,please.. and nice to have a debutant in White, think he might do well on that right flank.
-
holy smoke..for once I agree with Alpine. this player is clearly not good enough for any team in the football league.the only one in his entire career who has given him contracts..is his father,FFS.
-
you misunderstood, probably on purpose I guess. the point isnt about it being "just a job",the point is about what Davies said before he came here, and what he says now. playing football was said to be his main objective, which clearly isnt the case. if you do disagree, fine. but do try and adress the point I was making, rather than write an essay about loyalty and such-I`m really not interested in your views on that matter.

sorry, but I think the lad is a bit selfish. he knew we werent going to be promoted last season,so his "desire to play in the PL",is something he just came up with as soon as Stoke offered him big money,IMO. besides, surely he knows they are going straight back down-another clue as to where his priorities lies. to me it seems as if he just used Saints as a springboard to get more money,at another club ! I do rate him as a player though, but no such "heart-bleeding" statement is going to get my sympathy. two-faced barsteward..

well said. because the reoccurence of ***ts like the original poster on this new site,I have decided to wait and see, before signing up for the "full membership". its just not worth getting sucked into a meaningless, frustrating "debate" with such a clueless manic-depressive moron, who isnt even a fan of Southampton FC.

damn, you must have been on one hell of a trip to suffer withdrawal like that. even by your own Armageddon-like standards, this is way more pessimistic than the average score on a mental hospital for severely depressed suicidal wackos..! off-course its not too late, what an absurd thought. all signs are telling that the fog over our financial issues,is beginning to lift. imagine what would have happened if Crouch was still in charge, and no players had been sold, and no cutting in costs have been made whatsoever : do you think we`d be in administration by now with that scenario..? personally I dont think so,I think we would lasted until over christmas if no measures were taken,at the very least. so how come you think the situation now is so severe, that we are doomed..?? Crouch believed we were in alright shape without cuts being made.and now we have cut costs all over the line, from trainers, staff, players, etcetc. in addition,we have purchased players-not exactly a sign of bankruptcy is it..? Rupert has always had a prudent approach, and that line is what he is drawing now again. off-course he doesnt want to have plenty of players earning PL-money..in his eyes that must be madness. with his cheap mindset, its pretty obvious that these players are the first post of expenditure he wants to get rid of..its nothing unatural, its just Ruperts way of doing things. and right now,I believe it is the right thing to do. who knows, maybe by this time next year,we`ll be wondering who our next decent signing will be-instead of worrying about who`s leaving. If selling the underperforming money-grabbing primadonnas is the way for this to happen,I`m willing to go with the flow-even if it is Ruperts flow !
-
excactly. we couldnt get any other striker from this league, with the same potential as Stern for our new formation IMO. he holds the ball up,can score from distance and finish off crosses. I`d have him over Rasiak every day of the week !
-
lets see what happens if/when we do get injuries on our prefered players first. I`ll be very surprised if neither of Rudi or Euell are recalled into action if 2 out of Schneiderlin,Wotton and Gilletget injured.. it could just be that Poortvliet thinks Rudi and Euell are not his first choice, even if they werent for sale !
-
mate,I had excactly that same feeling. I didnt need to listen,I totally knew it was going to be a goal...the cheers from Cardiff-fans just confirmed what I allready knew ! how many times have we conceded late from a set-piece..?? the board changes, the squad changes and manager changes...but some things obviously never change with Saints.

I agree, the team is far too weak..and small ! we wont score from corners more than 1 out of 100,and probably let in 1 goal each 6-7 against us. however,I do still think we can win the majority of home games-when our youngsters feel comfortable and more adventurous. the talent is there, sadly that isn`t enough to anything more than a mid-table finish at the moment,IMO. very sad that final goal went in,a whole summer of expectations fell massively down the toilet..AAAAAARGH !
-
damn it,they are getting closer. good substitution, getting Dyer on,I think he might do something here ! COYR !
