I think that it is clear from his statements that AP was looking to bring in a pacey winger but either a) his club wanted silly money for him because we now have "money" or b) the player did not want to come to a club on -7 or a combination of a) and b). So - I am agreeing with you. For the record, I do not believe that we should pay far more than AP thinks a player is really worth. I also believe that the players we have are good enough to keep us in this league once they believe that for themselves.

I don't think that he is in any danger of the sack even if the current form continued. I think he has been hired for the long term rather than for instant results. We have been sinking for 6 years and I think we are close to bottoming out but it might be a week or two yet.

If clubs are limited in how much they can offer then the players will have to downgrade their expectations. The silly money is being asked because the clubs will pay.

Frankly I did not think that Saga looked any better than Patterson - he was merely different. I think that AP made the change because Lambert and Patterson were too similar in what they were doing and Saga would be a better option for playing off Lambert. I would not accuse Saga of a lack of effort as some seem to be implying but he was not that great either. At this level I would expect more from someone of his experience than we are currently getting.

Scheidnerlin was the only midfielder to show any creativity in my opinion. He is a class act.

Is he better than Patterson? Genuine question because I think our lad has a lot of potential.

Pardew said that all the substitutions were due to fatigue which probably explains why he was less effective in the 2nd half. I suspect he is still not match fit.

Disagree re Gobern. I thought he was making their defenders a bit panicky. Wasn't out jumped, was reasonably strong on the ball and was a bit unlucky to have goal disallowed
