  1. Perhaps God told him to do it :-)
  2. Nigel, I don't need to wish you success because I know that you will achieve it. I'm just gutted that it is not going to be with us. We WERE together as one. Now what are we?
  3. They might if they were morris dancers
  4. Comparing apples and pears. It all comes down to supply and demand. Players get silly wages because they are good and someone is willing to pay them. The earnings of a Dr, nurse or teacher is irrelevant to the negotiations. I am not saying that it's morally right but it is just the way it is. You have the option of not going to football or paying for Sky so that you don't fund the inequities. PS Just in case you misunderstand me - I think that wages paid to players in the top teams are lunatic, but as long as football is treated a rich man's plaything there is nothing we can do about it except not go and not buy Sky.
  5. How many players who get £50k a week are actually worthy of it? That is so difficult to judge that I don't think that I would use it as a reason for buying a player. QPR should be the lesson on that.
  6. Could you remind me?
  7. GS agreed a no publicity clause with him
  8. That settles it dan17 has spoken
  9. A statement typically used to verify any old cr@p that some random geezer has blown out of their backsides.
  10. You seem to have ignored your "allegedly"
  11. So fans shouldn't have dreams. Somebody should have said that to those Wigan and Swansea fans 20 years ago when they went to watch the dross of League 2 and below.
  12. Wrong church though
  13. Somehow I don't think that Nikko is a speculator - he's an investor. He may be taking some financial risks but I doubt if they are major.
  14. The original poster - not Beatlesaint - was careful to say SWISS banker.
  15. This
  16. Now Kirkland WAS a class keeper but - sadly for him - very injury prone. I remember being hugely impressed by him the first time I saw him play for Coventry at the Dell.
  17. TBF - I can't fault Jamie Redknapp's efforts for us.
  18. I agree with Turkish - I must go and lie down. Friedel on loan anyone?
  19. I was questioning whether they were better. And I might suggest that quality of player has a good deal to do with their position. Could those players produce better results? I think so hence my querying whether their coaches are as good as the OP was suggesting. Just because a club is bigger and richer does not necessarily mean that everything about them is better.
  20. Really? Their current inconsistency does not suggest so
  21. Unlikely, I would say, and if so, only for exceedingly big bucks. And thank God that nobody on this forum would be responsible for the negotiations. Oh - and we have a declared policy of trying to get to a position where 50% of our team are academy products. Selling Shaw would be a poor indication of the seriousness of that intention.
  22. OK - you've admitted that you don't KNOW anything - you are speculating. I don't know either so here is my speculation re above. Southampton's scouting team have built up dossiers on a number of potential signings. Adkins has obviously been shown these dossiers and is part of the team who decide on the actual targets. In other words he may not be battering anybody's door down to sign Ramirez but he has had an input into the prioritisation of signings. There is some sense in transfer panels. It gets you away from the scenario of 1. SIgn manager 2. Manager signs players. 3 manager fired. 4 new manager appointed 5 new manager signs players ignoring old ones 5 manager fired etc etc etc.
  23. You're a journalist. Do you know for sure that that is what is going on?
