After today's performance - no way!
-
Agree absolutely with your comment re James- although he is not a natural right back the one thing you can say about him is that he doesn't hide
-
Although to be serious I thought swopping Ewell and McGoldrick round was an inspired move and both played really well - to be honest I couldn't fault the effort of any of the players. If Wotte keeps them playing like this I will be happy
-
According the sages on this board Rupert picks the team so I really have to congratulate him on his selections today ;-)
-
Equally when we lost it did not mean they HAD a valid point. Any manager has to be judged after a series of games.
-
Flowers? - Edit - just realised that he predated the era you are interested in
-
Don't agree with that. McDonald has been scoring regularly for Celtic even against top continental teams. Best only scores sporadically for Coventry. SPL is as good as CCC.

Frankly, unless you actually sit and laboriously keep a record of shots yourself you are not really in a position to question their stats. Yours is an impression and therefore highly subjective. As I said before, the only stat that is of any real relevance is the one that says you have x points.
-
The problem is Pancake that 90% of the posts are cycling the same arguments over and over again. People clearly don't have enough to do. Speaking of which I'd better get back to work ;-)
-
No it isn't. I am totally against singling out single players. Its a team game.

What this discussion proves is that stats can be interpreted according to your point of view. The only stat that matters is the official one which places you in the league table. Yes - we definitely have been unlucky this season but luck evens itself out over the progress of a season and the team/ manager cannot keep falling back on that. We have played as well as teams that we have lost to - including Saturday - so, to me, the failure to score is less about luck than confidence. There is a fear factor involved and the fact that our home record is so poor would seem to underline that. I am not blaming supporters for this because I have not heard them give less than 100% support in home games but I believe that the youth of the players, and the fact that they don't WANT to let the supporters down, combines is a subliminal way to increase their anxiety levels. And the problem is - the more they lose the worse it gets. I believe the players have the ABILITY to recover from this. Whether they have the mental strength is another matter entirely

So it is all Rupe's Mother in Law's fault. I should have known there was a woman behind it somewhere ;-)
-
I just love the blind faith that experience of the last two years clearly has not undermined :-)

Two points here. Footballers are select for footballing skills and not for their self control in the face of abuse. They are more likely to react like the average man in the street than a policeman. I am not defending -it merely saying that it is understandable. Secondly, there was a time in my memory where there was every chance that the PC would have given the little oik a slap. I cannot say that there has been an improvement in lawlessness since they have been prevented from doing so.
-
I wonder how many people would stand and quietly accept abuse without some sort of response. Players are in the public eye and really should not respond but I guess but that is easy to say when you are not at the receiving end. I wonder if the allegedly beaten up fan was being as restrained in what he said as he is trying to make out.
-
I suspect that the managers and players of all clubs are expected to produce quotes for their clubs' media. I equally suspect that they would really rather not but it is expected of them so they have to say something. What therefore do they say? We're s**t and we know we're heading for League 1!!!! I don't think so.
-
Disappointed that you used that phrase WS. It is frequently used to give any old ****** a veneer of credibility and is one of the nastiest most insidious sayings that was ever coined.
-
Yep - when you see the abuse that Lowe, Wilde and Crouch and pretty much anyone associated with the board have experienced here you would have to ask why the heck anyone would want to find themselves subjected to it - and be paying for the privilege. I wonder if any potential investors have been put off by the vitriol they see posted. Because, lets face it, if the new owners got off to a bad start it would not be long before the whingers and moaners were hammering on their keyboards again.
-
No - the biggest game in our history was the one that saw us relegated from the premiership. The cost of dropping to League 1 from the Championship is nowhere near the cost of dropping from the Premiership. Unfortunately, if we do, then if we are to judge from the experience of Leeds and Nottingham Forest, it may take some time to get back up. Leeds are still getting 25-30k crowds though.

Controversial post alert - ignore if you like Lowe
St_Tel49 replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I have not seen that many posts defending L and W. The point that most responses have been trying to get across is that while it is perfectly in order to beat Lowe about the head for things he has been proven to have done, your argument cannot be treated seriously if it is based only on speculation. Sadly, far too much stuff is based on speculation and straight forward prejudice. When posters try to point this out they suddenly become Lowe Luvvies. -
Who will you support if Saints go really under ?
St_Tel49 replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
No-one. I will give up major league football forever. I am getting sick of the whole over-financed shebang and mediocre players getting obscene wages. Saints are the only reason why I am watching football and if they were to go under I'd call it a day. -

Have you any evidence of this as opposed to an "impression". I think it fair to beat Lowe with what he has actually done - but not on "impressions".
