What he has carefully airbrushed from his record is his time as Oxford manager when he took them down
-
Last season we took 26 points away from home, this season we took 23. That's not a lot of difference and as a regular away supporter I am reasonably happy. But as a season ticket holder I am not at all happy with the home form.
-
As things stand, next season we will be UA's only PL club, with Spurs gone to Nike, and it looks unlikely that they will get another high profile club. I do wonder if UA's interest in this country might start to wane? I did see a rumour though that they are after Manchester City.
-
What I do wonder is if Virgil might start the season with us to allow the predators to check that he does actually come back to play at his previous level, and then he will go in January.

The change to black shorts was due to a shortage of materials after the war that meant they couldn't get blue shorts, it was meant to be temporary. While it is a nice story, there are other sources that suggest it is a complete myth and that Bilbao actually used surplus red and white striped material from a local mattress manufacturer. But anyway, I love the interest that Romeu takes in the club and the area.

CB Fry never had a number as they weren't used until 1933. But he played as a full back - since he was a right-handed batsman I guess he would have been a right back
-
Surely there should be a Stokes table? Maybe not a great player but no other Saints has scored the winning goal in a major final (for us anyway). Or to add class - CB Fry, as well as playing football for Saints and England also captained England at cricket, played rugby for the Barbarians and was joint holder of the world long-jump record.
-
While I like Silva, his managerial record overall is probably no better than Puel's. Sometimes there is an ideal combination between club and manager and what is working at Hull might not work for us.
-
AVB would be my number one choice - but financially probably not realistic, although he might feel he has unfinished business in England. Frank De Boer would be a possibility, but maybe tainted by failure at Inter. I have always seen Rowett as a decent up and coming english manager and he could perhaps be persuaded away from Derby. Jokanovic at Fulham looks promising if they don't go up, although there is talk of him going to West Ham. I actually would not be unhappy to see Bilic at St Mary's.

When did Forster get booked? I didn't notice it in the game but it is in all the match reports.

There is indeed a parallel universe as listening to the final round up of the evening on R5 Live while driving home they gave the score as 1-1!

Why is the shuttle bus to/from SMS not a free service?
Kenilworthy replied to Tony F's topic in The Saints
I used that service but it wasn't free. It was also rubbish. Quite often they used drivers who didn't know Southampton and I had to give them directions. The final straw was when after one 3.00 pm kick-off I didn't get back to the car until 6pm, with a two hour journey home ahead of me. But yes the thoughts of the OP are correct, the free travel was integral to planning permission because the stadium doesn't offer the required parking. In fact it is travel and parking that caused the stadium to be limited to its current capacity, it would have been built bigger to start with otherwise. -
The Mark Wright pic is I believe from the FA Cup 6th round game at Brighton in 84. There are definitely some examples of matchworn shirts without a full underarm stripe. I will post a link when I find them again.
-
Last game of 85-86 was also a 3-5 goal fest on May Day bank holiday. Scorers were Danny Wallace, Mabbutt og and Maskell on his debut.
-
Looking at photographs of the Keegan era Patrick shirts I have realised there is a variant relating to the side stripes. On some shirts the stripe extends all the way under the arm to join the cuff. But on others it ends at the armpit. I have checked my own replica Rank Xerox shirt from 1982 and the stripe ends at the armpit. This in on short sleeves only, on the long sleeves the stripe always extends to the cuff.
-
Would that rule out the 93-95 Pony shirts with the big tick?

>Quite looking forward to us having a tilt at the title next season if we can get the right CB combination, not likely to get into Europe from 11 points behind Everton and so no midweek worries next season. Possibly 8th might make the Europa league this season if United win it and then go into the Champions League and one of the top 4 also wins the FA Cup - that assumes United aren't top 4 because I think you only get the extra Champions League slot from winning the Europa League if the winners haven't already qualified for the Champions League.
-
In what way has he been 'airbrushed out of our history' any more than many other influential people who are no longer with the club? Perhaps there should be a Cortese stand or a statue?
-
It's not a lot different to me wanting United to beat Palace in the FA Cup Final so we would go into the Europa League Group stages, when emotionally I would have preferred a Palace win.

I was at the Barnet game, ticking off the Hive. They were lucky to get a point. While their goal was splendid it was their only shot on goal in the entire game and their defence was frightened to death by Akinde. Away fans were noisy at the start but faded away until the equaliser, and who takes flares to a League Two game? Saw Newport against Carlisle earlier this season and I couldn't see any real gap in class between them and a team struggling to stay in the league.
-
Not Brighton. After the antics of 2011 and New Year's day 2012 if I never visit the AMEX again it will be too soon. Sadly though they are as good as up. It's a long way to Newcastle but I enjoy going there. Please not Norwich, they are always abject at Carrow Road but still win 1-0. I would love Sheffield Wednesday to come up via the play-offs. Huddersfield would be ok, but I am never going to drive there and get caught in the traffic gridlock around their stadium again.

I believe Charlie Austin went to the US for his shoulder operation

Chris Nicholl looks back at last LC Semi- Pretty Sad Article
Kenilworthy replied to once_bitterne's topic in The Saints
I was at that semi-final and the 'penalty' was right in front of me. Not only did Lawrenson pull Wallace down on the ground he batted the ball away with his hand in disgust at having given the penalty away. Neither of course was given. I met Nicholl a couple of times and he was a true gentleman. -
I wouldn't be at all surprised with Big Sam talking about strengthening his defence if Palace aren't suddenly linked with Fonte. With Cabaye and Benteke we already know they are not afraid of spending on wages.

Glen Cockerill Goal Against Luton - 1989 League Cup Quarter Final 1989
Kenilworthy replied to Gemmel's topic in The Saints
I had a vhs recorder connected to a PC that saved the video and then burnt it onto the DVD. It worked fine on the goals videos from 91-92 onward, but on the 88/89 and 89/90 season videos when I came to burn the DVD I got an error message saying the original video. I tried all sorts of fiddling with settings and searching the internet but never got round it. Maybe nowadays the people that offer vhs to DVD copying services might be able to do it. It might explain why nowhere on youtube can you find the assault by Paul Davis on Cockerill - but it is on that season's video.
