  1. The thing is that those in authority simply will not acknowledge the absurdity of their legislation. When Fulham came up in 2001/2 was I think the last season I stood on a terrace in the Premier League. Later that season Rupert invited someone from the FA to one of his forums to talk about safety issues. So I put the question - was I in danger when I stood at Craven Cottage? "No" came the reply. So I said "are you admitting that standing can be safe?". "No" came the reply - seating is safe, standing is not. They just refused to accept the contradiction they have created.
  2. I actually saw Dost play for Sporting against Braga at easter. They lost and he looked terrible.
  3. I would not be surprised. Under Armour could not possibly want its two English teams, us and Villa, to not be in the top division. I would have thought that Virgin Media will be looking for an out as well.
  4. Ah but if your season ticket was 'Available for cup ties' you had to buy a ticket for those games - and they cost 19/6
  5. When I first started going to the Dell in 1969 the best seat cost 19/6 and a programme one shilling - a ratio of 20:1. Now the programme is £4 it is simply too expensive. I still buy them because I can't help myself. I have got just about every home programme since 66/67 and hundreds of away programmes. But it is a sobering thought that if I ever tried to sell my collection it would almost certainly realize less than what I have paid to assemble it.
  6. I like the idea of trying to build a solid foundation in the Championship over a couple of seasons. But in practice the slow build rarely works, because at the end of the season Championship teams that have not quite made it tend to get picked over and stripped of their best players - as we found in 2007. The harsh reality is that not making a quick return could see us stranded for years.
  7. The squad in 2005 might have stayed up but for some terribly bad luck with injuries that at one time cost us all our forwards and then later all our keepers. Austin aside, this time round we have been very lucky with injuries - although you could say unlucky in that Tadic has remained fit.
  8. I think that may well be correct. With Wolves in the semi-final we would have had a good chance of getting to Wembley again, although United in the final would have been a tall order.
  9. >Should have told them to get stuffed, just like they did when they made us play our FA cup 5th round tie on the Tuesday after we played the 1979 League Cup final and we asked for the game to be on Wednesday instead and they refused. It was worse than that. They made us play on the Monday after the final on Saturday. And then the replay was on the Wednesday. I have never forgiven them either.
  10. Paul Hurst would be a good shout for the Championship
  11. That's what I was about to say. Even with six layers on I was cold.
  12. What is stopping the rearranged date for Swansea away being announced?
  13. Admiral went pop a number of times. But they were still supplying Bradford and Middlesbrough in 93-94, the season in which we went to Pony.
  14. It might be that UA could pull out of football kits and reach an agreement to end the contract early. Saints are their flagship club in England at the moment and UA probably are not too happy with our current situation. We have seen contracts terminated early in the past - our deal with Admiral in 91 was meant to last 4 or 5 years and ended after two seasons.
  15. Also Newcastle and Bristol Rovers. And he did win a medal with Norwich.
  16. Arsenal have the longest unbroken run in the top division, but they have been relegated. In fact, they are the only Premier League side not to have reached the top division by promotion on merit. They bought their way to getting elected-in in 1919.
  17. We have to leave the family centre at the end of the season as my sons are too old. I was worried that we might struggle to find three decent seats together. But going by this thread it looks like we will have the pick of the stadium.
  18. According to the official history of the PFA only 41 players in England were on basic salaries of £50,000 per year in 1984-85. So it is reasonable to assume that Steve Moran was on considerably less with Saints. He would have had a very respectable income for the time, but only for a career of 16 years. Shouldn't the PFA be helping out in cases like this? It seems so unfair that Gardos is effectively set up for life by not playing for Saints.
  19. Since the UK weather is so unpredictable they could have a month off when conditions were really good to play football and then come back in February to snow and ice. I would only agree to the break on the condition that the players were to play no games of any kind during the period. Without the opportunity to play lucrative exhibition games around the world the break will have rather less appeal to the big clubs.
  20. Troy Deeney, available for about £20 million would be a brilliant signing. Would give the physical presence, leadership and steak of nastiness that we lack.
  21. Or maybe "Don't look Black in anger'
  22. We have made our point. We should sell in January to anyone but Liverpool.
  23. Unless it is going to be £1million for each goal and each assist its not going to make much difference. Charity would be better off if he donated money for every time he came inside rather than beating a defender on the outside. There was a big article on the Metro today. Seems like 'Redders' is on a big PR push.
  24. My view is that the club should say every time he speaks to the press about wanting a move resets to 12 months the time before we will grant his transfer request
