Which three years of Saints history would you experience again?
Kenilworthy replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
I started going in 69 so have seen all the recent eras. But have a twinge of regret that I missed the period 65-68 of reaching the top division for the very first time and then Ron Davies scoring 37 goals in his first season with us. -
Best Performance by an Otherwise Incompetent* Player

Martina v Arsenal -
However, after his return from loan at Ipswich Fuller scored six goals in six games which helped kept us out of relegation trouble at the end of the 2005/6 season and he went on to help Stoke get promoted and stay up.

Had a call this morning. I asked what would happen with the games remaining on our season tickets. The answer was that they would be credited against renewals for next season.
-
Yes he wasn't really a planned signing. He came off the bench late in a home game against Everton that we won with a Pahars penalty. Played 1, Won 1 - so better than some.

What they don't show in the highlights of that Leicester game is Hobson rounding the keeper to put the ball in the net and it sticking on the line.

That saturday was the first time that red cards were used. I always believed that Best was the first player in England to be shown one. But a Blacburn player got one a bit earlier. On the Big Match coverage I don't think you can actually see the card being shown.

Its a bit harsh on Petrescu as we paid very little for him and won six league games in a row after he joined, with him scoring two winning goals.
-
Surely Lew Chatterley must get one of the midfield positions?
-
Charlie George was 28 when we signed him. So arguably at his peak and we paid a lot of money for him at the time. And he did have some wonderful games for Saints, including scoring in a brilliant 3-2 won over Liverpool. His goal return of 11 goals in 44 games is fairly respectable. It is just that he didn't play enough games for us due to injury. I believe I may be one of very few to have seen him play for Arsenal, Derby, Saints and Forest.

I haven't seen any colour footage from that era either. Think the earliest is about 71, by which time we would be in yellow and blue. Maybe there is some old newsreel footage but even the film of the 63 semi-final is only black and white.

I was there - only my second away game. Dad's car broke down twice on the way. Got in ground just as they kicked off. It was the only game on in London so they were forced to show it on the Big Match the next day.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XarZj2eehc

David Hirst scored two goals against Spurs in his second game for us to win the match 3-2, scored twice at Anfield when we won 3-2 and the winner at Leeds. Nine goals in 29 games is not brilliant but he deserves more than to be mentioned alongside some of the players here.

Being a bit picky - the statement says deferring 'part' of their salaries but doesn't say what percentage that is

Jones became the only keeper to keep a clean sheet in an FA Cup final but not win the trophy
-
It is actually 3 - Shilton, Begovic and Crossley
-
Painfully, in the 92-93 season away at Spurs I think we might have set a record for the fastest ever transition from 1-0 up to 3 goals down - just 5 minutes.
-
Pedantically, Shearer holds the record as the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the top flight. The youngest ever was Trevor Francis in the old second division when he was just under 17.
-
Should the reason resume at the start of May,which I think is very unlikely, what would be the first fixture? Would it be Norwich away? Or would it be Brighton home - which the website currently says? If the postponed six games are tacked on to the end it could have a significant impact on the outcome of our season. Because suddenly we end the season with City home, Everton away and United away - the ending from hell.
-
That has happened in the past. Back when the decision was taken to reduce the old first division from 22 to 20 clubs there was a season (87-88) when there were 21 teams so every weekend one club wouldn't have a game
-
Actually checking 11 v 11 - Brighton drew 3, lost 2 and won 1. He made his league debut for them at the Dell in August 77 in a 1-1 draw
-
I have always hated Mark 'at the murment' Lawrenson. But unfortunately in his time with Brighton (77-81) Saints were not exactly a bogey team. They drew 4, lost 2 and won 1.
-
On loan at start of the 82-83 season. First ever loan player to score for Saints.

But don't think it will be the week after that Saturday as it is international week. If Arsenal progress in the Europa League it could be hard to find a date until the end of the season
