  1. I think "Safe" is the keyword. Standing in seating areas is I believe something of a risk and we would probably need to create a dedicated standing area. And I hasten to add that I am not anti-standing by any means, but I do believe people should have the choice of sitting if they want to. While at away grounds at the moment standing is essentially compulsory and that rules out a good number of supporters who can't stand for long periods - I will probably be one of them when my dodgy knee gives up.
  2. It feels like the end of an era as Long was the last link with that heady Summer of 2014 when everything seemed to be falling apart and then came together again under Koeman.
  3. Because he was largely awful. A standout memory is him trying to juggle the ball in an away game at Wolves and instead kicking it into touch. His brilliant goal against Spurs was a black swan.
  4. Never forget the save at Anfield where he pulled the ball out of the net and we won 1-0
  5. Think it will look better with the alternative white shorts. But I can't think of any game where we will need to change shorts because of a clash and where the rest of the kit doesn't clash with the home team anyway.
  6. Yes he was. And I believe it was on the first day in October 76 that the card system was introduced.
  7. Although that was before red cards which didn't come until 1976
  8. I would be utterly appalled at the idea of Rooney being our manager. He pledged loyalty to Deby and has just walked out
  9. If we could get £75 million or more I would reluctantly say yes if we thought it would be invested wisely. It is a lot of money for a player that could be a tackle away from being worth nothing and JWP's value is probably at a peak right now. If we don't sell now, and I would love him to stay, then the chances are that as long as we don't go down he will finish his career with us.
  10. Ralph would probably drop KWP in favour of him like he did for Tino
  11. The thing about winnable games is that we don't. I would prefer Everton away to get it over with.
  12. Rasiak scored 28 goals in 78 games for Saints. Kenwyne Jones scored 19 in 71 yet Stern John, his replacement in the swap deal, scores the same number of goals in 47 games and is a failure.
  13. I was sat next to Andrew Davies' mum for that game. She couldn't believe the abuse the players were getting from their own fans.
  14. Tim Flowers came from a lower level, having been relegated twice with Wolves they were in the old division 4 when we signed him. The difference is that although he made his first team debut quite quickly he was the backup to Shilton. While it looks like we are expecting Bazunu to be number one from the start.
  15. Not really fair to include Stern John in the list of failures. He scored 19 goals that went a long way to keeping us up, while Kenwyne Jones, who he replaced, took two seasons to score as many at Sunderland.
  16. Flash Gordon Watson on his debut away at Forest. Apparently his mind wasn't on the game because he has lost his filofax. Went on to be a very useful player that season.
  17. A long time ago but Peter Shilton was playing regularly in the old First Division from about 17, although he didn't make a full international appearance until he was 21
  18. If ever there was a case of the Emperor's new clothes its Kalvin Phillips. England have had some monumentally over-rated players and he must be close to the top of the list.
  19. Rather too much like Arsenal from this past season. And worryingly like the shirts Sheffield United wore when they got relegated to the old division four
  20. Growing up in the sixties I wanted every English team to do well in Europe, loved Chelsea winning the Cup Winners Cup. But now the success of the "big" teams in Europe just gives them more money that puts a distance between us and diminishes our chances of any success however small. And as for the BBC this morning telling us that Klopp is a "man of principle" - I presume illegal tapping up of players does not come under principles. I desperately want Real Madrid to win.
  21. Gyokeres is a good championship striker, as was Armstrong. But not sure he has the pace to make the step up.
  22. KWP has been undermined by Ralph. How could he be picked by England when he is apparently not Saint's first choice right back? Would not be surprised if he was looking for a move
  23. I would take Ings back if maybe we could get him on a loan deal. Even being injured half the season he still would have the potential to score 10 goals to keep us out of trouble
  24. Even with our resources I don't think it is hopelessly ambitious to think that we could have got an extra six to 10 points this season that would have had us nearer the top of bottom 10. That would only have needed managing the home game against a defeated Brighton and turning the defeats against the truly dreadful Watford and Norwich into wins. Failure in those games was down to the manager rather than the players.
  25. Can Ralph really keep his job if we take a severe beating?
