Is the deal for this season? Or does it start in 2024/25?
-
We are nailed on to lose at Wednesday on TV. I reckon we will have 14 points by the end of September with three wins and 5 draws
-
The Highbury assault was in September 88 when we were wearing Hummel. The Admiral flame yellow was worn rarely. It made its debut at Sheffield Wednesday early in the 91-92 season. And I recall us wearing it when winning at Crystal Palace in the 92-93 season. Strangely, it was used with white shorts rather then the blue shorts it was intended to be used with.

Liverpool are just as guilty. They have messed around with shade of red in recent seasons, making it far too dark and in 2021 added orange trim. This season they have at least adopted a traditional design that is just a copy of their kit from the 60s and 70s.

yes that was my response as well

The £350,000 a week that Pelle was offered to play in China was I think impossible for him to turn down no matter who our manager was. Bringing him in was a real stroke of good fortune and agree he was a massive loss when he went. It wasn't something we resolved until Ings came in two seasons later.

One thing I sometimes wonder about is how Koeman might have fared had he stayed on for a third season. He would have faced the same difficulty of losing Pelle, Mane and Big Vic. Redmond would probably still have been signed as he had been linked with him for some time. Maybe Koeman could have attracted better players to come in? But I suspect that he might have found it a difficult season.

The closest I can think of is Eddie Kelly (former Arsenal player) who won the second division championship with Leicester in 1980 and was then a second division runner up with Notts County in 1981

The change in distribution of gate receipts took place in the early 80s - 84/85 I think. Before then the home side took 70% the away side took 25% and 5% went to the football league levy. After that the home side took everything. Arsenal were instrumental in trying to grab everything with the formation of the Premier league based on lying by their chairman David Dein. His story was that it wasn't right that small teams could frustrate the ambition of the big teams by outvoting them. The truth was that every first division side had one and a half votes, all the third and fourth divisions teams (then known as Associate Members) had six votes in total. So what was then the "Big Five" - Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and laughably Spurs and Everton - could always carry the vote.

As Kalvin Phillips glories in his contribution to the triple someone should point out that he was a starter in the game that cost them the quad

I just find it very depressing. There have always been some clubs with more resources than others. But now it feels like the money behind City has created a juggernaut that has essentially made football non competitive.

Well I'm glad that the towelling outrage has been addressed

KWP was a fantastic player for us. Dave Merrington described him as playing "with a chuckle in his boots". But that was eroded by both the messing about with playing on the left rather than the right and lining up with players who couldn't react to what he did anyway. Next season he will be playing for a much better side and then in the England squad for the Euros.

Don't care where he goes if we get good money. Its not like we will have to watch him playing against us. BTW I loathe Liverpool
-
It is not just the quality of either the players or manager, but if they can work together. There are plenty of examples where players have effectively gone on strike to get rid of a manager they didn't want - Leicester players did it to Ranieri, Shakespeare and Puel with big upturns in results when they got their way. I half suspect the Wolves result was down to something similar, with JWP suddenly deciding not to strike freekicks like he usually does.

Macron do make kits for Palace, Forest, Nice, Real Sociedad among others. So they probably rank alongside Hummel in terms of the level of clubs they supply and I would actually prefer them
-
I have done some guessing of possible results not based on the actual merits of teams now but on how we do historically against them, like we are nailed on to lose at Norwich, Stoke and Rotherham, Bristol City and Cardiff are likely to do the double, we will draw at Plymouth and we have a good chance of winning at QPR etc. I came out with 72 points. This past season that would have us comfortably in the play-offs but well short of automatic promotion.
-
Agree. Cynically any team would want him to go through a series of full games before taking a risk. If he does come back fully ok could see him departing in the January window.
-
Can anyone clarify if it was actually handball in the buildup to Liverpool's fourth goal? It looked that way from my view in the Chapel and as soon as it wasn't given I knew the ball would end up in our net. The highlights on SKY don't show it.

If we are in the Premier League we have a small possibility of winning a cup - we came close in 2017 and reached two FA Cup semi-finals. In the Championship that possibility just about vanishes - since West Ham won the FA Cup in 1980 only one other lower division side has won a major trophy, and that was Sheffield Wednesday in 1991. Since I want Saints to win a trophy for my sons who have never seen us win any silverware apart from the JPT I am desperate for us to be in the Premier League.
-
Exactly what I thought. It might have worked against some PL teams if the players had embraced it.
-
The kit for the coming season is probably already cast in stone, unless perhaps we leave Hummell. What we should be pushing for is the 2024/25 kit
-
How was Bowen's goal for West Ham onside when he was just as offside as Walcott?
-
There is a lot of comment about Russell Martin only finishing halfway. If we finish halfway next season I will be quite happy. Because our team is ruined and we are facing an awful time in the Championship and the fix will not be quick.

Man City fans and the media talking about the treble now as if it is done. I fancy United to win the cup.
