  1. I believe i lived through a 3 week period where we lost 8-0 Everton 7-0(1?) v Leeds and then lost to UTD in the Cup 5-2. The Daily Mirror had a picture of Eric Martin holding up his hands in front of the camera! (couldnt see the two bloody holes that must have been in them!)
  2. So do we know if Ralph will be pitchside for this game- yes and we have a chance to get something - no and it will be a tepid loss! I think he makes a huge difference to the players during a game!
  3. I guess the way to look at it maybe - who would you rather see as right back on Saturday at Anfield? Kevin Danso or Kyle Walker Peters? - i believe one has played Champions League this season.
  4. Well- if we are back to playing like we used to then it should be one of our favourite scorelines: Saints 3v1 Watford (would have liked to see 3-0 but it isn't going to happen that way is it?)
  5. So - maybe Marcello Lippi (once named the best manager in the World) or Paul Tisdale (Team Bath and Exeter City - once the longest serving league manager) You just know which way we will go! I would have thought it would be better (if available) he was in position at least a week before our next game to settle in etc (i know he wouldnt affect the day to day preparations) - it would help the club (The squad?) and perhaps confidence to have someone to be in position now. I think someone on here has stated that he has Ralphs approval which i would guess means we arent going to the "Tisdale" end of appointments?
  6. I would like to see Nigel Adkins back at Southampton FC in some sort of role - excellent manager for us (bar finishing runner up twice and not champions! - but hey ho look where we are now!) - a very good coach - likes players to be at the peak of fitness - no shirkers - would work well with Ralph. Plus i think we owe him a second chance at the club.
  7. Valery shouldnt be in the first team squad again Romeu shouldnt either but not a lot of choice there Danso should be CB for at least until New Year McCarthy should keep his place on Saturday Still think it will be 6 or 7 on Saturday because of Stirling and DeBruyne! Give Adams a run in the team! Make sure Redmond is fit for the Everton game! Armstrong was anonymous but that may have been because of tactics Boufal the same but he did carve out a good chance - so keep in team
  8. I agree - much more sense to do something for those that did turn up - especially those that were still there after 90 minutes. I guess winning the next three home games would help!
  9. Memories fading - but isnt that the team that lost to Everton 0-8 in the seventies? - followed by 0-7 and 2-5 defeats?
  10. Because he wasnt too far wrong in a lot of games and we have had difficult games - not one person so last nights scoreline (even Mark Lawrenson!) and as much as people say on here it was going to happen - again no-one said 0-9 and especially against a team like Leicester.
  11. I dont know if this has already been posted on the other 7 pages! In 1970-71 season we lost 0-8 to Everton (weather was bad that day i believe!) and then 0-7 to Leeds (with all their fancy keep ball tricks) followed by a home cup defeat to Man Utd 2-5. I was 12 years old and for a Saints supporter in North Devon - not a very good time. However, we finished 4th from bottom that year and didnt get relegated!! I cannot see anyone else but Ralph that could turn this around. I think he will stop with the strange selections, people out of position, picking favourites etc and look to get some sort of result from somewhere with the players we have. On Monday i shall be buying tickets for the Watford and Norwich games - once a saint - always a saint - Ps The crowd were the best players last night - a superb effort which shouldnt go unnoticed by the players and manager. Couldnt care less about the owner(s) but if they are going to help the club - now is the time to step up
  12. I know this is a view from an armchair but we played a top 8 team away from home - they had 4 chances with 1 on target (which i presume was the dodgy penalty) - ignoring the VAR decisions because they didn't count anyway - i would have thought apart from scoring more than 1 goal we had a pretty good day
  13. At least it means he will put a shift in for the next few games if selected! Did we miss him on Sunday? - we scored 3 goals without him.
  14. McCarthy & Vestergard both with MOM displays. Awful first half (ok 60 minutes) but then we were Saints of old. Ings the best striker we have - Charlie's time is up. When we get Yoshida with Vestergard the defence will be ok. 1 point better off than last year. Look at the positives.
  15. My mistake earlier - i watched it on full screen and can see now the usual Shane Long shot which wasnt goal bound which Gabbi tried to convert. However - Long has now scored so that tells me!
  16. Yep - they have put Gabbi as firing over the bar - surely thats Shane Long? - Gabbi would have scored!
  17. Just had a repsonse from the club to say the game will be 3.00pm Saturday - I was hoping to know as I need to book accommodation. When are the TV fixtures confirmed which may show a switch to Sunday? I thought all those involved in Europa league got moved automatically ( depending on them beating Aberdeen I suppose)
  18. As a long term supporter - accepted relegation at least two months ago! - McCarthy and Hughes have given us a slim chance. I only hope we dont go down because of GD after City put 6 or 7 past us on Sunday! I hope for a victory tomorrow and a reasonable result (no more than 2 goal defeat) on Sunday. In a way i want relegation to see the end of Reed and Krueger with a complete overhaul of a very average squad. If we stay up i feel that those two will stay and we wont do any real business in the summer meaning another poor season in 2019. Not sure about Hughes long term but definitely think we should keep him if relegated (because there wont be any better on offer)
  19. Dont know if its true that the player awards are cancelled but he definitely deserves Player of the Year. Has improved immensely given the chance and with some important saves has given us the slimmest of chances.
  20. Forgot to say - big positive - Alex McCarthy - they gave the wrong keeper a longer contract.
  21. Wasted corners especially 1st half but even JWP wouldn't have found our players - their 2 centre half's far better than ours. Shaquiri given so much space but didn't use it today. Jack Stephens MOM for me just for two fantastic stops avoiding a goal from Stoke. This team is playing worse than our relegated team but I reckon there are 3 teams worse than us. Probably just as well we have 6 away games - that is how we play at home anyway. Sorry but I don't get Redmond - no point if there is no end product. Same at present with tadic and Boufal. Sims was good but a pity it wasn't Austin taking the shot at the end. I think JWP should play as he is the only one that can deliver a ball and when we get a corner or decent placed free kick away like next week they will be few opportunities meaning we can't be wasteful like yesterday. My third match yesterday and I haven't seen a saints goal live this season. As man city will be my next game - looks like that won't change. Still positive ( owing to our historical battles) that we will be at least 4th from bottom - probably thanks to a shock victory at goodison! I don't want this manger next season which ever division we are in.
  22. Watched the game on the TV - thought our fans were man of the match - great support. Still on a knife edge which way the team is going to go but surely we can only take the positives from today's performance. Only 4pts off 10th place - i guess we will know by the end of February whether or not we are staying up. 2 good signings would give us a real chance - still not sure whether changing manager now will make a difference (Erwin Koeman for me if we have to - knows the club and most of the players!)
  23. Surely a good choice if we are to be changing the management team anytime soon.
  24. Quite like this idea as there is no-one who we would want permanently available - i was against sacking until today - with no shots on target and no real fight in the team - it needs someone like Strachan to sort them out quickly. Need a change before Saturday or we will get turned over before having to go to City.
  25. Funny enough - the way we have been playing is probably the best way to play against the top 6 sides (especially city) because we will get easily turned over in all these games - also the ability to change should they get the early goal or two. I think VVD should be given the captaincy back - he is our best player by miles and only real leader on the pitch - i saw him having a go at Redmond on Saturday so he knows the people to shout at! VVD, Lemina, Romeu, Boufal and Gabbiadini should start all the next games whatever in my opinion and then its pretty much who you would do best against the opposition of the day.
