Jay, All teams that go into administration are basically insolvent. We gave our all, but that little bit of extra quality shone through. We are on the up they are on the way down. I dont want them to go under, i wouldn't want any club to go under. But in this case I would hate that to be our last game against them

good post Norm, i have a certain amount of empathy towards Pompey after the events of the summer. Sent a message to a pompey work mate today to say that i hope we win on sat, but i hope you survive as a club. Win lose or draw will be joining him for a pint on Monday after work, hopefully with bragging rights
-
Sorry folks, as much as i dislike Pompey. i don't want them to go under. I get great pleasure when I hear their results come in every Saturday (losing), and its always thee first result i check for after us. When we have beaten them in the past, it has meant more than beating Liverpool or Man Utd. I do want to see them suffer, administration will do. Part of being a saints fan is our rivalry with those lot. When we were in admin the two skates i worked with both revelled in our demise, but both wanted us to survive as a club because like myself they loved the fact that the south coast rivalry could match any in the uk. Just think how excited everyone is about Saturday, surely we will all be slightly sad in Pompey do actually go disappear.

and that is why they are about 25 points above us. Suspect Norwich squads also as good as ours. Glasgow Saint, I know you are probably around 12, and don't want to sound patronising, and trying to take an unbiased opinion. Leeds and Norwich appear to be a class above every other teamin this league. I know we knocked Norwich out of the JPS, but that was very lucky. Even without the 10pt deduction we would only be 9th. So to spout off with "we have the best squad in L1" can only be considered deluded or arrogant. I hope it is the former

no Leeds have the best squad in this league, we are playing catch up

Saying that our squad is worth 15m is very over the top -

what Turkish lira? If our squad is work 5m its over valued -
I think an inability to service a debt does count as financial mismanagement. When we did have access to finance (sale of Walcott, Bale etc) we chose to speculate. I admit that Pompeys speculation is on a far greater scale than we attempted ourselves, but there premiership income flow allowed them to do so. I for one feel slightly sorry for the average Pompey fan, and have no urge to see them fold. I would however like to see them suffer for a couple of years, and hopefully we will have a few tasty derbies as we pass them on our way up. Unlike most on here, I don't fancy them in the 5th round of the cup. I feel that they would have too much quality for us. Next year however will be different

Surely the players he unearths, not purely bringing in so-called proven players, should judge a good manager. I suspect it was a straight choice between Ward and Fonte, both being ball playing centre backs. If CCC teams were having a look at him there must be something there. I think alot of you lot need to keep your feet on the ground. I am worried that some of you lot are getting delusions of grandeur. Remember it’s only six months ago that we had threads on here about who would go and see a reformed Saints in the blue square if we went under. We are 14th in div 1, and probably will still be in this league next year.

No one worried at the level of spending..?
dockland Dave replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Yes because ML is funding the difference. I have no statistical figures on income, but look at it like this, the first 4000 season ticket receipts would only pay for Thomas and Sagas wages (very general assumption of both being on 8k a week and average ST price to be £200 to include seniors, juniors and concessions). I suspect Lambert, Waigo, Fonte Davis are all on 5k + I think recommended wages in a self-sufficient should amount to no more than 48% of turnover, obviously we are not in this bracket due to ML -

I suspect our wage bill is close to 100% of our turnover at the moment -
I have just been on the Doncaster Rovers BBC 606 site to see if there were any rumours concerning the BS transfer, and I have to say that squirmed with embarrassment of the arrogant attitude of some of the Saints posters. Can someone please explain to them that having the countries 4th richest owner does not equate to being the 4th richest club, ask Everton and Watford fans about their mega rich owners. Doncaster Rovers are a great little club, play football the way it is meant to, manage to balance their books and are a league above us on merit. Their fans must think are lot are an arrogant punch of idiots. For the majority of the 30 years I have supported the saints many fans of other teams I have met have professed a soft spot for us, whether it was because of Le Tiss, Keegan or the fact we defied all expectations and managed to hold onto our top flight position year after year. We are a Div 1 team on merit and its only 6 months since we almost went under. I would hate to think of other fans disliking us in the same way as I have disliked the arrogance of Man Utd, Spurs et al . Sorry folks rant over,

After seeing Lambert at Leeds, argueably the best team in this league, I honestly believe that he will struggle against the better CCC sides. I think with his lack of pace he would struggle against better defenders. But I suspect given the option RL would jump at a mov to Newcastle, bigger club, higher league and the opportunity to play in the Prem next year. I however doubt that Newcastle would want him.
-
I would add Sheff Weds, Forest, Ipswich, Norwich and Sheff Utd to that list. I think we can be considered one of the 30 biggest clubs in the country on support.
-
Why the hell do some Saints fans feel the need to go onto another teams fans forum after the game and ask questions like, "where we the best team you have played?" If Saints had just lost 3-1 and some idiot came on asked such a subjective question i would politely tell them to... off.

What has happened to Bobby Scott in our youth team? Is he injured?

Schneiderlin wants to Leave / Rasiak
dockland Dave replied to Channon's Sideburns's topic in The Saints
The lad is 19; I think we all forget this. The problem about last season was that we all expected youngsters to play like experienced pros. Like AL, LJ and co, he is not the finished article and will only get better with time. Maybe its an indictments on today’s society as a whole that supporters expect instant results from these youngsters, rather than taking a more pragmatic view that these youngsters will blow hot and cold as they mature. I see to remember Le Tiss wasn’t an instant success as a youngster, but we saw enough ability to wait. On a lesser note KJ took 3 years to break into the side, and look at him now. Lets not write our youngsters off on a weekly basis, and except that given time a few of them could be very good players. I suspect we will all be moaning about letting him go in 5 years time, when he is Arsenals next playmaker. -
This is a very sad thread, considering all the **** we have been through. Remember they are still premiership and we are -10 in div 1. Lets worry about our own club first!

I know this is totally off topic, but I currently doing a part time MSc in Urban Regeneration, and trying to write my dissertation in between working and looking on this site. However tonight I was reading a critical report on the Pompey harbour development, when i found this. "Portsmouth has a low level of educational attainment with 45% of pupils with 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE in 2003, as opposed to a national average of 53% (see table 1) and a disproportionately high number of people with learning difficulties." (Clarke 2002) I know this is a very cheap shot, but was wondering if there is a direct corelation between "learning difficulties" and "PFC"

I am based in Sheffield, if all goes well will be looking to do a approx 20 gams next season, both home and away

Has either of those two got real jobs?

Can we all calm down! Firstly the deal isn't signed yet, and secondly I suspect next season will be one of consolidation, midtable mediocrity, and I will be happy with that. We have no idea of the potential new owners spending plans, so lets be realistic with our expectations, and perhaps we won't be disapointed! As for a manager, surely its only honourable to give Wotte a real chance. Let see what the bloke can do without the pressure of the club about to implode! Remember the grass is always greener.
