Anyone remember the attendance at Mick Channons testimonial held a few days after the 76 cup final. I thought it was 30k+as people were standing on the touchline and invading the corners of the pitch!!!

I went to the Orient game when we got promoted in 1978 Looking up the records I see that the crowd was 19,428 of which 12,000 were Saints fans.......!!!!!!!

Are we talking about the same school? I refer to the one at the end of Stafford Road which at the time was called Western District Infants School. I can assure you that George Reader was headmaster at the time I was there.

George Reader was the headmaster of Shirley Infants School when I was there from 1942-1947 when I was there!

He ended his career with Hereford.....I recall being in Nottingham for a conference and went to see them play Notts Forest.....great player!!

I would be very sad to see Pompey be chucked out of football altogether as some are now predicting. Back in the 60's I worked in Portsmouth for a few years whilst living in Southampton ( and commuting by bicycle!!.) I and a couple of friends used to attend Portsmouth and Southampton home games on alternate saturdays because we enjoyed the entertainment!!!!. In case you should thereby doubt my credentials as a Saints supporter I was born within 100 yards of the Dell, saw my first game in 1947 and am a current ST holder. Pompeys predicament seems horrendous but I sincerely hope that the good citizens of Portsmouth have a team to support in the future

My response to the FL email..................................................................Dear Patricia Brown Thank you very much for your prompt and detailed reply to my Email regarding Southampton FC. My main concern is that apparently the Football League are attempting to force the prospective purchaser of the club to forego the right of appeal against the points deduction by withholding the clubs registration. It seems to me that all the purchasers want is an opportunity to put their case. If then denied so be it as far as I and many others are concerned .!
