  1. Thinking could be a more experienced 'keeper will find it easier to step in with less notice/preparation time?
  2. I suspect a Bishop in the Assyrian Orthodox Church would be Christian...
  3. Wonder if Mo Salisu helped convince him to come here.
  4. What did he say about the 'goal'?
  5. He certainly did take it well and I agree Che wouldn't have scored it. Forget the finish, Che wouldn't have that run across the centre back. Was an excellent striker's goal.
  6. Yeah, in amongst the hyperbolic noise around NJ and his insistence on 3 at the back I think most have missed that he has said precisely this. We are otherwise a very short team (not just full backs) and playing three CBs gives us more presence for set pieces in both boxes.
  7. If you're referring to Brentford, they played three at the back on Monday. They were also very direct...
  8. He has 726 runs @ 36.30 making him our highest run scorer (just - Organ and Gubbins both also over 700). Not brilliant but certainly not terrible. As Window Cleaner suggests, 3 poor first innings efforts have cost us this year (yesterday, Chelmsford and - most damagingly - the Oval).
  9. They are also far less dependent on gas for electricity production.
  10. You're both right that matching last seasons results in our remaining games would be an exceptional run of form and maintaining that level of consistency is unlikely. However, Looking at it a slightly different way, of the six teams we have played twice, five of them are currently 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th in the league (Everton being the outlier in 16th). Of our remaining 13 games, 9 are against sides currently below us and 3 of the 4 against teams above us are at home so there are a lot of winnable games, especially the way we are currently playing.
  11. Yes and no. I agree that not going to the bar will exclude them from much of the socialising and 'boys club' environment but I suspect (at risk of generalising myself) that wouldn't bother them. It's when you get outside of that environment to the training ground and dressing room (remembering that this is a professional working environment not the local pub team) that the culture needs to be more inclusive. As I said, using the social group argument as justification for being abusive and making them feel unwelcome in their workplace is not right. Bumble's comments in isolation may well be valid (and in many cases true) but in the context of the accusations being made by an individual he didn't know and as an apparent excuse or justification for the negative treatment of Asian players they were at best inadvisable and probably inappropriate.
  12. I think the point is that the comment was made in response to serious allegations of racism and a racist culture within the Yorkshire dressing room. Suggesting that Asian players not going into the clubhouse bar is justification for them being treated differently outside of the bar and being abused and made to feel unwelcome in the dressing room is not acceptable. You are also ignoring his second comment about Asian players paying their subs which, as a generalisation about all Asian players, is by definition a racist comment.
  13. Not if you're on a fixed term contract they can't.
  14. Apart from Valencia and Benfica?
  15. Yes because socialism, communism and marxism are all exactly the same thing - showing your deep understanding of the ideology you so oppose there.
  16. I agree with all of that. Hand ball and offside are clearly the most contentious rules. Hand ball suffers from constant tinkering with the rule and the consequent confusion over implementation and interpretation. Offside (which should be simple because it's a matter of fact rather than opinion) suffers from the potential margin for error both in terms of the point the frame is frozen and the drawing of the lines. It would benefit from a margin of error allowance in the decision (like they use for LBW in cricket) as suggested above. The other difference with both cricket and rugby (I don't know about American Football) is that the decision making process is transparent. The umpires/referees are 'miked up' so that you can hear the discussion and it is shown on the big screens so that everyone can see what is being discussed. If football could do the same, so that the thought process and logic were understood I think that would help.
  17. There's a Hojberg classic at 41 seconds too!
  18. Perry Groves Barry Venison
  19. Or alternatively to allow academic staff time to focus on research (which is their primary role by the way!)
  20. At this point I'd b disappointed if we didn't get 40. We have two very winnable home games (Bournemouth and Huddersfield) and if we win both would only need one point from the other 5 games to get to 40.
  21. Indeed Watford away is on FA Cup quarter final weekend so every chance that will be moved later in the season and fall in the same category. Would also suggest, as frustrating as the weekends result was, Fulham, Bournemouth and Huddersfield are all likely to be easier sides to break down at home than either Palace or Cardiff were.
  22. I thought he played well at the weekend too. I think there's a decent centre back in there. He's still very inexperienced for a centre half but reads the game quite well. With the right manager and a settled defensive partner he could develop quite quickly.
  23. Steve, try using Cricinfo. Their stats section is pretty good as well
