I checked the OS yesterday too and it definitely was not there then

I knew Don in the late fifties and early sixties through the war-gaming. He was indeed a very nice man. RIP Don.

Exactly my thought, too!

Probably the most sensible post in all the 18 pages of speculation.

Signed and good luck to you and CCFC Jim

I can remember those years. I used to go in the fifties with my father, from Woolston Station to Fratton Park, when the train was full of Saints supporters going to watch Pompey. There were never any problems, it's just what you did if you wanted to see Division 1 football. You went to see the football, not squabble about some ridiculously fabricated rivalry, it just didn't exist then. There, I saw the legendary Stanley Mathews play for Blackpool, the pre-Munich Busby Babes, including the great Duncan Edwards and a very young Bobby Charlton; I also saw the post Munich Man. U team cobbled together immediately after the disaster for an FA cup match. In that match, I saw Earnie Taylor, he of the devastating 'body swerve' and of course a young Bobbie Charlton who survived the crash. If you wanted to see these players, the equivalent then of Premier League players, it's what you did, mixing with Pompey supporters.

I think he's addicted to them, it's a compulsion to haggle

I hope you will have good health and live a long way past 65.

I don't think any of us know how long they've got.
-
I have looked at the tables for the last 6 seasons and averaged them; 85/86 should be enough for 2nd place and 92/93 for 1st.

Bad loser and sour grapes come to mind
-
Exactly. The original tweet says "top scorer from championship" not 'THE top scorer from championship', which means it could be any of about ten players, including Henderson, McCormack, Vaz Te, and Snodgrass.

I think you must mean 'WE'RE TOP OF THE LEAGUE' - 'WERE TOP OF THE LEAGUE' means something completely different. -
Agreed, I remember Paine, Sydenham Reeves and Ron Davies even Eric Day but that's going back a bit too far. However, there is something about the present set-up which makes me so optimistic about Saints' future, because it seems to me that an holistic approach to the development of the club has been adopted and not just the reliance on a few outstanding individuals for survival. That doesn't mean that there aren't outstanding invidual players at the club (Adam Lallana for example) but the club is no longer dependent on them (eg MLT) to survive. Of course it all depends on whether NC, NA and the Liebherr family are prepared to stick around to see it through, but at the moment I think they probably are (that's just an opinion, I've no evidence).

Sorry pressed the wrong button, I forgot to refer to this quotation so once again, I agree and I am 69, so ignore my previous post

Agreed and I'm 69

I thought that Armitage Shanks made "Quality Plumbing Fixtures and Fittings", that's what it says on the stencil of their sanitary ware I have anyway

A few more famous Belgians: Jacques Brel - composer/singer Georges Simenon - Author of the Maigret novels James Ensor - Expressionist painter Victor Horta - pioneerining 'art nouveau' architect Paul Delvaux - surrealist painter

I never did get to see his legs, other than in trousers that is.

I started supporting Saints because, as a child, my father took me to see them play, starting in the early fifties. I can remember my first game. For some reason, long since forgotten, my father and I were walking down Archers Road on a Saturday afternoon; the large gates behind the goal were open, he took me in onto the terraces (illicitly it has to be said) and I watched the legendary Eric Day play. A subsidiary reason is that my great uncle was Arthur Dominy, an ex Saints player and manager.

So you're not serious then? From OED definition of 'Banter': "Impose upon (a person) orig. in jest; delude, cheat, bamboozle.....Make a jest of (a subject, thing).....Nonsense talked to ridicule a subject or person"

Not big jobs then?
