  1. Not sure I agree with other posters about Scholes. As great a player as undoubtedly he's is, he certainly isn't a good tackler. Its the worst part of his game. Player of the month so far is definitely Gillett. Has been superb in that terrier midfiled role. Reminiscent of Marsden. I don't want it taken in a negative way as I think they are potentially very good but Lallana and McG are not as prolific in scoring goals/assists as Gillett is in his duties as a passer and tackler in midefield. Tough choice tho.
  2. Agreed. Thought Cork put in a quality performance, looked really comfortable on the ball.
  3. I dont agree with people staying away just because of RL but they are entitled to their view. However, they are missing out on some awesome football. Too early to get carried away but there were a lot big smiles on people's faces walking out of there tonight. I'd like to see the boys get the support they deserve for the effort they put in and pride they are showing when they wear the shirt. Something that appeared to be lacking at times over the last couple of seasons.
  4. Makes you proud to be a Saints fan again. The youngsters put in a great display and Thomas had one of his best games for us. Cork looked very comfortable and Lallana was everywhere. Despite a 15 min period after the break when we were off our game a little and had withstand some pressure, we got the ball back on the floor and started playing our pass and move football again and the whole team played really well. Great chasing down and movement throughout. The same old baiting of KP went on again but he never looked like scoring thank god.
  5. Just got back. We played really well first half but as with previous games we are creating chances but not converting them. Defence looked OK and the midfield were very industrious. Surman got caught out of position a few times which was concerning. It made a nice change from the dross I had to watch last season. Players were hungry and energetic. Second half we dipped a bit and the early Brum goal seemed to take the wind out of our sails. Starting hitting more long high balls which we are just not big enough up front or in the midfield to win. Keep it on the deck and we will outplay most teams. Lucky with a few offside calls but whilst its obvious that we lack experience (McGoldrick's head was visibly down after the second goal) and we are a team that look a little lightweight, what really concerns me is Kelvin. He just doesnt command the box, his failure to come out claim the ball contributed to the goals. If only he came out more and claimed the ball more we wouldn't have half the problems at the back. Overall, I take the first half as a positive to build on and perhaps with a few older, wiser heads reintegrated we could be OK. Certainly nothing to panic about right now and great to see Killer back at St Marys.
