  1. Flannigan won't make the 25 man squad so can't play in the Premier League; and is too old for the Checkatrade Trophy (an U21 competition) - perhaps that's why a squad number was considered unnecessary.
  2. The extended set of squad numbers for the 18/19 season have been published on the Premier League website. https://www.premierleague.com/news/810083 1. Alex McCarthy (was 13) 2. Cédric Soares 3. Maya Yoshida 4. Jannik Vestergaard (new) 5. Jack Stephens 6. Wesley Hoedt 7. Shane Long 8. Steven Davis - loaned to Rangers in January 2019 to end of season 9. Danny Ings (new) 10. Charlie Austin 11. Mohamed Elyounoussi (new) 12. Sam McQueen (was 38 ) - (since loaned to Middlesbrough for season) 13. 14. Oriol Romeu 15. Sam Gallagher (was 27) 16. James Ward-Prowse 17. Stuart Armstrong (new) 18. Mario Lemina 19. Harrison Reed (new; was 25 in pre-season. Since loaned to Blackburn Rovers for season.) 20. Manolo Gabbiadini 21. Ryan Bertrand 22. Nathan Redmond 23. 3. For those interested in squad numbers, today’s programme (as I still prefer to call it!) confirms some late changes to this season’s numbers (also confirmed in the Club Shop): 12 Sam McQueen 15 Sam Gallagher 19 Harry Reed Also confirmed 41 Harry Lewis. Otherwise the first team numbers are as per the OS squad listings. Flannigan not listed
  4. If Jake Flannigan is still with the club then we have 30 over 21s. I say that because Jake was on a monthly contract but was removed earlier this week from the first team profiles. So we need to omit 4 or 5 players. I am not sure when we have to submit but I think it’s 1 September. So who is omitted will be influenced by who we’re able to send out on loan between now and then. I’d add Barnes to the list of those likely to be on the omitted list - perhaps Barnes, Flannigan, Forster, Hesketh and one other.
  5. Thanks, OP updated. The OS squad profiles are still way out of date - it's 2 to 3 months since we announced the retained list and the U23 and U18 profiles still contain the players we released and none of the new intake of scholars. Harry Reed and Harry Lewis are still missing completely. Oh and we have invented a new chronology for numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 4, 6... Edit: First Team profiles updated with new kit, Harry Reed added and more traditional numbering system reintroduced. U23/U18 still out of date and Lewis still missing.
  6. Rose Valery, Klarer, Jones, Vokins O'Connor Slattery Smallbone Barnes Obafemi Johnson Subs Cull Bradley-Green Flannigan Davis Hamblin Rowthorn - came on early for injured Slattery Hesketh Mdlalose N'Lundulu

  8. Currently at 29 but that includes 3 players who are not currently with first team (Rose, Barnes and Flannigan). Edit: in fact 4 players not with first team, as you can add Hesketh to the three mentioned above.
  9. Just realised it is Jamie Bradley-Green. One of three unused subs (along with Alex Cull and Harry Hamblin).
  10. Here was our line up - anyone know who Bradley is (number 12)? Edit - screenshot from full highlights which were on Facebook - quality of screenshot rubbish but we had someone on the bench with the surname of Bradley
  11. Those teams ought to do quite well - they've got 12 players in them! Bednarek is also not back from WC duty either.
  12. Very clear. Rose, Barnes and Seager are also all home grown players over 21. You are right about the U21 - but if you were to add the main ones that would probably include Lewis, Vokins and Slattery (all went to China) and Obafemi on the basis he played for the first team last season. I'm not sure whether Valery (who's French) qualifies as home grown or not but it's not relevant at this stage as he's under 21 and there is no distinction in the U21 list between home grown and not.
  13. Now that Carrillo has gone out on loan, we currently have 30 players who do not qualify as Under 21 and would therefore need to be named in our 25 man squad to play in the PL. Add Gunn and Vestergaard and will need to sell or loan out at least 7 to avoid them sitting around and ineligible to play. The 3O players are as set out in the previous post. On the basis that neither Barnes nor Seager made the plane to China, they would seem not to be in Hughes’ plans for this season (Seager set for a loan in Holland I think I read). Clasie is set to go back to Holland. We are clearly looking to offload Boufal. It is difficult to see us bringing Gunn in if we didn’t think we could loan or sell Forster. That’s 5 of the 7. Flannigan is on a monthly contract so could be released or may be a prime candidate for a loan. Perhaps McQueen or Targett also out on loan? Davis is also rumoured to be on his way - didn’t get any game time in China. Reed is another widely tipped for a move out but will depend on Hughes’ view having seen him in China.
  14. Thomas O'Connor signed a 2 and a half year deal in May 2016 (see bottom of page one of this thread and https://southamptonfc.com/news/2016-05-17/oconnor-signs-professional-contract-with-saints) - so it looks like his deal is up sometime during the course of next season. Since Alfie Jones signed his contract at the same time, perhaps this also applies to him. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11700/10286125/southampton-quintet-sign-first-professional-contracts Bailey Owen is on Swansea's list of scholars on their retained list - so he must have been on loan to us. See Bailey Elis Owen in the Swansea list - the PL website confirms https://www.premierleague.com/players/23927/Bailey-Elis-Owen/overview that Bailey Elis Owen has been playing for us this season so it's either the same player or a massive coincidence!
  15. https://www.premierleague.com/news/698775?sf191372450=1 The full list of players retained by PL clubs Contracts Alves Soares, Cedric Ricardo Austin, Charlie Barnes, Marcus Thomas Bednarek, Jan Bertrand, Ryan Boufal, Sofiane Bradley Green, Jamie Carrillo, Guido Marcelo Clasie, Jordy Cull, Alexander Davis, Steven Ferry, William Flannigan, Jake (monthly) Forster, Fraser Gerard Freeman, Kieran Gabbiadini, Manolo Gallagher, Samuel James Hansen, Kornelius Normann Hesketh, Jake Alexander Hoedt, Wesley Hojbjerg, Pierre Emile Kordt Johnson, Tyreke Martin (offer) Jones, Alfie Klarer, Christoph Kozak, Simon Latham, Kingsley Finn (offer) Lemina, Mario Rene Junior Lewis, Harry Charles John Long, Shane Patrick McCarthy, Alex Simon McQueen, Samuel James Mdlalose, Siphesihle Thembinkosi O'Connor, Thomas James O'Driscoll, Aaron (offer) Obafemi, Michael Oluwadurotimi Parkes, Adam Darren Redmond, Nathan Daniel Jerome Reed, Harrison James Rose, Jack Joseph (offer) Rowthorn, Ben John Seager, Ryan Paul Sims, Joshua Samuel Slattery, Callum Smallbone, William Anthony Patrick Stephens, Jack Tadic, Dusan Targett, Matthew Robert Taylor, Stuart James (offer) Tella, Nathan Valery, Yan Vidal, Oriol Romeu Vokins, Jake Ward-Prowse, James Michael Edward Yoshida, Maya Scholars Afolabi, Jonathan (offer contract) Bartlett, Daniel Grahame Brennan, Sean Anthony Davis, Harrison (extended) Fleary, Taymar Hale, Harlem (offer contract) Hamblin, Harry Mark (offer contract) Ledwidge, Kameron Malcolm Nlundulu, Dan (offer contract) Norton, Christian Anthony Olufunwa, Oludare Samuel Araba Ramsay, Kayne Robise, Enzo This is largely as expected except: - Jake Flannigan is on a monthly contract - Thomas O'Connor and Alfie Jones are not shown as having been offered contract extensions so they must not have been out of contract after all - Harrison Davis has been offered an extended scholarship not a pro deal - Bailey Owen (2nd year scholar) is not listed. He was not one of the new scholars that was paraded last summer and was missed off of both squad lists (September and February). No idea why he keeps getting excluded - he is included in the OS profiles. Perhaps he's on loan to us? - Enzo Robise is not yet on a pro contract I've updated the OP. This list doesn’t tell us the length of the new contracts offered - unhelpfully.
  16. The following would need to be included in the 25 man squad if they are to feature in the PL: 1. Alex McCarthy 2. Cédric Soares 3. Maya Yoshida 4. Jordy Clasie 5. Jack Stephens 6. Wesley Hoedt 7. Shane Long 8. Steven Davis 9. Guido Carrillo 10. Charlie Austin 11. Dušan Tadic 12. Matt Targett 13. Fraser Forster 14. Oriol Romeu 15. Jan Bednarek 16. James Ward-Prowse 17. Sam McQueen 18. Mario Lemina 19. Sofiane Boufal 20. Monolo Gabbiadini 21. Ryan Bertrand 22. Nathan Redmond 23. Pierre Højbjerg 24. Harry Reed 25. Ryan Seager 26. Marcus Barnes 27. Sam Gallagher 28. Stuart Taylor 29. Jake Hesketh 30. Jack Rose 31. Jake Flannigan So plenty of loans or sales needed to get us down to 25 before any additions. Of course, not all those offered new contracts will necessarily accept them. By the way the players are listed chronologically to show how many there are - these are not the new squad numbers
  17. Yes - presumably a few players (including Jones, Taylor, Rose and Flannigan) have been offered new contracts. The full list of retained players and players offered new contracts has to be published on PL website by 8 June (2nd Saturday in June) so we will find out then. In the meantime I’ve updated the OP.
  18. Funnily enough they were the one I looked up to see if they had had more - looks like they've also had 26. Just found an article which ranks last season's PL teams for number of managers they have had in PL era. It was from September 2017 but if I've remembered the moves since then correctly the updated list is as follows, with the number representing the number of time the club has changed manager. Palace 33 Saints 27 Brighton 26 Swansea, West Brom, Leicester 25 Huddersfield 23 Newcastle 22 Watford 21 Chelsea 20 Spurs 18 West Ham 17 Man City, Stoke 16 Bournemouth, Burnely 13 Everton 12 Liverpool 8 Man Utd 5 Arsenal 4 Not a high position to be proud of!
  19. Yes it was Chris Nicholl. 3 managers between 1955 and 1991. 26 managers (or 28 if you count Bassett/Wise and Gorman/Dodd separately) since 1991. I wonder how many teams have had more managers than us over the PL period.
  20. Some - possibly many - of the decisions about out of contract players would have been taken during the season before Hughes even arrived. If you look back to the link about Ollie Cook going out on loan (previous page of this thread) it states he had been told then that he was not being retained. I’m quite sure Gardos would have been told the same when he was loaned and we know that Bakary and Wood have had trials at other clubs. So the delay is more one of announcing changes than taking the decisions. There was a deadline of last Saturday to submit the list but it is up to the club when it announces them - or even if it announces them. Last year we announced the pros being released but never said anything about the scholars - I suspect as a result of sensitivity about headlines of the number of players leaving the club. Given we have around 20 players out of contract and potentially leaving the club it would not surprise me if when we do announce it we limit it to pros only. The PL will publish a full list in June which last year was the first and only confirmation about the scholars if I recall correctly. I doubt the club will make an announcement before Hughes is appointed because it will look like he has more of a say if it comes after (even though very few of those out of contract players are first team squad members). Of course I could be proven wrong very quickly! Ben Cull confirmed his departure on Twitter a few days ago. I’ve therefore removed him, Olomola, Cook and Wood from the OP.
  21. I updated the OP earlier this morning to reflect Hansen’s contract. I’ll do a bigger update when the released and retained lists are announced. The Premier League deadline for submitting these lists is the third Saturday in May so there should be an announcement on or before this Saturday.
  22. While relegation is not confirmed, it is now much more likely than not. On past performance we will prioritise cutting costs over what we need next season (though actually I think this overlaps in many cases). I'd expect us to release most if not all of the 20 players who will be out of contract, namely: Jack Rose Stuart Taylor Kingsley Latham Jérémy Pied Richard Bakary Harrison Davis Alfie Jones Florin Gardoș Aaron O'Driscoll Oliver Gardner Ollie Cook Will Wood Ben Cull Jake Flannigan Thomas O'Connor Javen Siu Armani Little Tyreke Johnson Olufela Olomola Dan N'Lundulu Jonathan Afolabi Few of these have challenged the first team and I think we'd have offered terms by now if we wanted to keep them. I'd expect Alfie Jones to be offered a deal but he will get offered something better elsewhere. I think Pied could do a job in the Championship but I expect us to seek a cheaper option. We may keep one of the keepers as back up. I'd expect us to try to cash in on first team players that: - are too expensive to keep or - are too good for the Championship/think they are too good for the Championship namely: Fraser Forster Cédric Soares Wesley Hoedt Matt Targett Ryan Bertrand Oriol Romeu Mario Lemina James Ward-Prowse Dušan Tadić Sofiane Boufal Guido Carrillo Manolo Gabbiadini (There may also be some interest in the likes of McQueen, Long and Sims which I'm sure we'd concede if the money was right.) Of course, we will find it difficult to shift some of these, particularly as we will try to hold out for unrealistic prices (which in some cases would leave us with overpaid and unmotivated players). Ideally we would try to keep the likes of Romeu, JWP and Targett but I think that is unlikely. If we did manage to sell the players above that would leave a first team squad of Alex McCarthy Harry Lewis Yan Valery Jan Bednarek Jack Stephens Maya Yoshida Sam McQueen Jake Vokins Jordy Classie Pierre Højbjerg Steven Davis Harrison Reed Callum Slattery Josh Sims Jake Hesketh Nathan Redmond Shane Long Charlie Austin Sam Gallagher Ryan Seager Michael Obafemi Marcus Barnes Backed up with Development Squad (excluding scholars) Adam Parkes Alex Cull Kieran Freeman Christoph Klarer Jamie Bradley-Green Ben Rowthorn Harry Hamblin Will Smallbone Nathan Tella Harlem Hale Siph Mdlalose If we were to reinvest the money we do get (which will, of course, be nowhere near what we paid in most cases) on proven Championship quality players (particularly to strengthen the defence) and add a manager who knows what is needed, we ought to be able to compete at that level rather than be in for another relegation scrap. We would need to make a number of high quality signings (which we have not made for a long time) in order to make the team a promotion seeking one.
  23. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/2996456 I don’t know yet but keep an eye on transfermarket.co.uk - which says that the striker a couple of weeks ago was Benni Smales-Braithwaite of Man City
  24. If we released or sold no one we would have 34 players over 21 - the 24 we named this time, the four out on loan (Clasie, Targett, Reed, Gallagher) plus Bednarek, Flannigan, Wood, Hesketh, Barnes and Seager from the current under 21 list who will qualify as over 21 by then. In reality, of course, some of the 34 will have departed by the start of 2018-19. The following will be out of contract by then: Rose Taylor Pied Wood Gardos Flannigan But even if all these leave we have 28 players that are over 21. And that’s before we buy anyone. So sales to get the numbers down do look inevitable.
  25. https://www.premierleague.com/news/612828 Confirmation of the updated squads. No surprise omissions in our 25 man squad - which, as expected, is a 24 man squad. Targett, Clasie, Gallagher and Reed are omitted because they are on loan. The U21 squad lists all the U21s registered with the club, including those out on loan (Cook, Barnes, Seager and Lewis), apart from scholar Bailey Owen. No idea why he is omitted. It also lists Simon Kozak an U18 defender who isn't shown on the OS U18 profiles for some reason. Olomola is also missing from the OS profiles but is in the Premier League U21 list.
