  1. Agreed. I think with a few more games under his belt he'll be class. That tackle you refer to was superb. Also thought Martin looks a good prospect: very strong in the air, and seems to read the game well. I would rate him higher than Seaborne from what I've seen.
  2. A pretty dull game, but a few things stood out for me. McGlashen, despite his unorthodox use of language, is worth persevering with. Very quick, good feet, just needs a bit more composure. McNish, on the other hand, looks very composed and comfortable on the ball, but needs to go looking for it more, get more involved. Forecast did make one good save but looked shaky on crosses and corners – does not instill confidence in me (or his back four I would have thought). Biggest disappointment was Holmes, who just didn't look interested. Granted he can cross the ball well, but if a winger is not even prepared to have a run at non-league defenders then he shouldn't be playing on the wing. No pace and no ideas. And repeated diving.
  3. Agree about Jackson – hasn't lived up to the hype when I've seen him.
  4. I really hope this is a wind-up, because although Ormerod wasn't the greatest striker to pull on a Saints jersey, he always put a great shift in, allowed others around him to play their natural game, and scored some crucial goals. Villa Park FA Cup semi, for example. Lovely down to earth bloke too.
  5. Very good. The "late manager" LOL. Wonder if The Echo will pick this up?
  6. Er I meant playing LM obviously. What he does in his private life is up to him.
  7. He really is on fire at the moment, but he's laying LM at Spurs these days, not LB.
  8. Speak for yourself – I love the badge. And a new one is going to mean lots of expensive and painful tattoo removal.
  9. Maybe Freddie Eastwood? He's been out of favour there until very recently, when he' started scoring again.
  10. I've seen him play twice for Rushden and Diamonds and I think people are getting carried away. OK, he's obviously improved since then but talk of paying millions for him and him being a Prem standard striker are astonishing. He is very quick, and gets in good positions, but both times I saw him his finishing wasn't great. Reminded me of Aaron Mclean of P'boro when he was at Aldershot – loads of speed but disappointing end product. McLean has improved his finishing greatly since then, so I'm not saying Jackson can't be a good CCC player, but Prem? Sceptical about that. Might be able to get McLean much cheaper than Jackson.
  11. Nor am I. That's why I said the Championship.
  12. Didn't see the programme, but don't think we should be gloating too much. It was only five minutes ago that we were in deep s**t. I never thought I'd say this but I DO feel sorry for Pompey fans, because I know how they feel, except their situation looks even more dire than ours was. And you can't have a rivalry with only one team in existence – can you honestly say that you'd rather see them disappear than go to Fratton and stuff them in the Championship, whether it's next season or the one after?
  13. Saw him in November at Aldershot in the FA Youth Cup. Looked promising – strong and composed on the ball. He played a beautiful defence-splitting pass to set McNish up for one of the Saints goals.
  14. Still have nightmares about that game.
  15. Largely agree, although the conditions were appalling. I thought Akinfenwa was a real handful – best player on the pitch by miles, although he seemed to be carrying a knock when he came off so don't know if he's fit for Saturday.
  16. Word is Dillon is bringing another ex-Reading coach Naz Bashir as his assistant. Don't think Downes will be going anywhere in a hurry.
  17. I was at the game, and although the Shots worked hard to keep Saints at bay for the first half an hour or so, there was a gulf in class. The main reason Shots were reduced to long range efforts was because Saints CB pairing, Racine and Tafazolli are both huge, and looked very solid, constantly talking and reading the game well. Others who impressed were McNish (great range of passing, very comfortable on the ball), Robinson (calm, broke up opposition attacks), Oxlade-Chamberlain (quick, lively) and Dovey (not much to do but never looked like getting beaten). Wouldn't be surprised to see several of these lads knocking on the first team door before too long. The Shots team were a mixed bunch but they had three players who I thought could have held their own in the Saints team. The rest looked out of their depth but gave a good account of themselves considering they don't have anything like the resources Saints academy has got.
  18. Scorers: OG, Hoskins, Argent and McNish.
  19. No, it's one division below Saints. Didn't realise Mourinho was in the running for the Saints academy job.
  20. Met Kevin once when I played in a 5-a-side tournament at Fulham's Motspur Park training ground. Lovely bloke, who spoke fondly about his time at Saints and was tickled to know there was a poster on here called Not The Kevin Moore. Best wishes to him and his family.
  21. Shots kept their first clean sheet of the season at the weekend, away at Rotherham. Apparently Dodd had done his homework and Shots controlled the game. 0-0 ft.
  22. Don't really think he's short on brownie points after two consecutive promotions do you? Still wouldn't be surprised to see him as Saints manager one day – definitely a talented manager.
  23. FFS, we are not one of the richest clubs in England. Do you really think ML is going to sink all £2.5 bn in to Saints? Get real and be happy we are about to start the season on a solid financial footing. Look at the combined wealth of the QPR owners – they got Jim Magilton. Not a bad manager but not exactly earth shattering. Personally I hope we get Coppell.
  24. David Conn at the Guardian told me on Friday: " I hope to have a look at the saints situation as soon as I can." Would be interested to see if he can shed any light on the situation.
  25. I'm as keen for this deal to go through as everyone else, but regarding the 10 point deduction, we should just take it on the chin and get on with it. Every other club would have to in our situation, so why should we get away with it because we had a different company structure from most clubs? The fact is we went into administration. End of.
