Completely agree. I liked the suggestion from Sydenhamssocks of a legends wall. Bit like a vertical Hall of Fame. Something to recognise those who have contributed a lot to the club without having statues dotted all round the stadium.

This. Not sure that we need another statue, but we should recognise Lawrie's achievements. He is 83 now, so it would be good to do something while he is still in reasonable health.

The year is 2192,” he (Bulgarian Environment minister) wrote. “The British prime minister visits Brussels to ask for an extension of the Brexit deadline. No one remembers where this tradition originated, but every year it attracts many tourists from all over the world.

The worry is what will go with relegation. I can't see too many of the current bunch of players scrapping it out in the Championship. There is very little coming through from the academy and there are clearly major problems behind the scenes. Plus an invisible owner who has spent £200 million for the club with borrowed money and is about to see the value of his asset plummet. The hope at the beginning of the season was that Ralph would keep us up for a couple of seasons to give time to address the recruitment problems. Doesn't look like that will happen. Unfortunately I can't see this ending well. We will be lucky not to be back to League 1 in a couple of seasons time.

Spurs song was Glory Glory Hallelujah in the sixties, although they did occasionally sing OWTS. But it wasn't their song at the time, just something that they sang sometimes. Much in the same way as lots of fans sang You Will Never Walk Alone in the sixties/seventies, although it was always Liverpool's song. I think that the clue is that they have to change the words and we don't.

Whilst not strictly Southampton related, I found this an interesting read about his time pre-Southampton. https://bit.ly/2oE7Rt2

Also in the Lake District. Plan to watch the game in Ambleside. Both the Ambleside Tavern and Kings Arms have Sky. -
Except when we had 20 consecutive home wins in L1/championship.

Fox was a good LB in a Championship side that was on top in most games - as we were in 2011/12 - as he was able to get forward. For me, the issue was that he failed to make the step up into the Premier League, in a side that was defending much more. He simply wasn't good enough defensively at that level. Remember him gifting Man C their winner in the first game back. Fortunately we had Luke Shaw coming through, who was a more than adequate replacement.

Thats not the problem. Smaller clubs near major cities can survive quite happily when run well. In both cases the clubs had run up debts unders one ownership, then been taken over. In Bury's case they were bought for £1 and the new owner did nothing to address the debts. Football is a sport that needs to be run as a business, but whereas normal businesses can fail and no-one except the staff really cares, if a football club goes bust then the whole community suffers. And there are too many cases of owners buying clubs with out recognising their responsibilities to the community. Not just Bury and Bolton - Blackpool, Newcastle, Charlton to mention three more have had (or still have) owners who should never be let near owning a football club. The fit and proper person test is a joke.

My favourite radio moment relating to Saints predates Radio Five Live. Back in 1984 I was living in London and listening to the Radio 2 Sport commentary on a certain 4th round FA Cup match. I remember the priceless comment from Frank McLintock that he hadn't realised how serious Saints-Pompey games were. But the best bit was late in the second half, when the commentator (Peter Jones?) paused, you could hear the cheers which raised hopes, then he said 'And Steve Moran has scored for Southampton'. Went out with mates in the evening. I wasn't great company - only one topic of conversation.

Or maybe I forgot that we still have Charlie Austin

So we have sold three players - but still have 5 or 6 that need to go (Hoedt, Carrillo, Clasie, Forster, Lemina, Boufal). Plus we still need another centre back. Going to struggle again unless we can move more of these players out. Les Reed has a lot to answer for. It's what comes of buying players without a clear idea of what you want them for or whether they will fit the club. Anyone got any inside info to cheer us up?

Police Investigations into historical interference with young players

I assume we can talk about it now? -
I'm still looking at the bottom of the table to make sure we're reasonably clear. I don't know if it's supporting Southampton or the endless Hampshire relegation sagas but this is my natural instinct.

England to play Euro qualifier at St Mary's in September
kwsaint replied to The Worm's topic in The Saints
Was on the site working out how to link two supporters club memberships and then just carried on and ordered two tickets. Was expecting to hit a check that I was not a member of the travel club, and didnt. Bizarre. The site also appears to be selling tickets from the front upwards, so picked one of the smaller corner blocks to avoid this -
that's quite ridiculous isn't it

Remember this one well. Two very late goals to get it back to 2-2, and Moran had a shot cleared off the line in the very last minute

https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/publications/nomination-form-and-guidance-notes-uk-national-honour Link above. Anyone can nominate someone for an honour. Not sure about the knighthood, but recognition is certainly warranted (MBE?). Think that this should come from the club

Bit close in the end but some cracking bowling to finish them off. Lead at the top extended.
