I was there as well 4 of us went on the persil deal by train and stayed 4 nights. My brother and another mate went by coach and stayed a couple of nights. A lot of squaddies supporting us. Afterwards we were being escorted by the riot poilce through the wooded park to the underground station when the Hamburg fans set-off a thunderflash we just stood amused as all the riot police ran into the bushes to hide!

I was in block N and it was almost continuous singing from our lot throughout the game. I couldn't hear the Fratton End unless they combined with the rest of the ground to make some noise. It obviously depends where you were sat/stood in the ground but the Saints support seemed loud and very good to me and the home fans disappointing.

I also ran the Southampton marathon in 83 and remember it as two circuits of the same course starting from the Avenue and looping through Shirley twice? Blew up at 18 miles and finished in 3 hours 45 minutes. Also have run the Great South and agree on the last few miles being a drag if the wind is blowing.

Really looking forward to this. This is what football is all about your team playing the best team (arguably) in the land. I was brought up on always playing your best team and trying to win every game and cup competition there is. I don't buy 'distraction' arguments we didn't use those back in the 1970's when I started going regularly often a good cup run led to better league form. I presume all those slating this fixture and not going to the game won't be on here avidly looking for score updates................ As a fan my support is unconditional and I want to see Saints play as much as I can and play to win everything. COYR

I have shelled out £70 for me and my 2 Saints mad sons - I want to see a strong Saints team and go for a shock result. How often will my sons have the chance of seeing Saints overturn Moan Utd in the cup? However, there are league home games every other week (that they do go to) this is their chance (ok faint chance) of poking fun back at the Moan Utd plastic fans that go to their school and live nearby.
