  1. More great work, I hope you can keep doing this for some time to come!
  2. True, but The Mail mixes fact and opinion so freely and so well and not just in the comments section, it usually starts on the front page!
  3. This is why I love The Daily Mail, it editorialises opinion all the time so people accept it as fact. Martin Samuel is expressing an opinion in something that reads like a blog. He misses out some facts, glosses over others and even gets one or two wrong in letting us know what he thinks. No wonder people are outraged, that never happens on here! Sadly, however, I fear he is essentially right, self-interest rules and wealth and power will stay with the rich and influential few.
  4. Ambitious? Perhaps, but how much would he cost?
  5. Cortizone. testosterone, EPO - could a footballer use these to improve his speed and stamina? Possibly. Do any footballers use recreational drugs? Probably. Could they avoid detection if they were careful? Very likely. The football authorities are being very short-sighted in their attitude to drug testing, they seem even more lax than they were in pro cycling twenty years ago. Surely it is only a matter of time before someone is exposed and a scandal of Lance Armstrong proportions is uncovered. I wonder if clubs are complicit as cycling teams were and everybody else is turning a blind eye so that the goose laying the golden eggs isn't frightened off. After all, the financial stakes are enormous.
  6. Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino: "I thought we did enough to win the game but we are lacking luck and clinical edge in front of goal. "We started off well, had 70% possession but are not taking chances. We are creating them and look like a team fighting to win the Premier League so I am happy with the effort. "I saw the handball and I thought it was quite clear, replays also show it was clear but the linesman was close and he didn't even see it."
  7. Adam Lallana has been consistently outstanding this year and will thoroughly deserve the award, should he win, but there are a number of other worthy candidates who could easily have won it in another year. I'd like to give them a team of the decade award but next year could be even better!
  8. He did a good job, up to a point, but he always had a touch of "Il Duce" about him. I can imagine he told MS Leibherr that it's either my way or the highway and she invited him to take the highway...
  9. KL & MP - the dream team for the next few years at SFC.
  10. I would think that MP is free to choose his assistants.
  11. The stats don't tell the whole story. We get and retain possession pretty well. We generally pass it around nicely. We create a good number of chances of which a few head towards goal. We score now and then. We have occasional defensive/goalkeeping lapses which result in us conceding goals. We win some and we lose some. This team seems to have reached its current natural level and, on the whole, most people are happy with what they see, given the talent and depth of our squad. An alternative could be to play like Stoke did under Pulis which got them to a similar level for a while but I would fear for the suicide rate in Hampshire if that happened. We will not make significant further progress without some big investment in the team and that is in the hands of those that own and run the club. I think some folks need to step back, chill out and enjoy the ride and put away all unrealistic expectations. When we can afford to put on three subs costing a total of £130 million but still cannot close out a game or hold on to a lead, then would a better time to whine.
  12. Why are you wearing your missus's knickers?
  13. Hear, hear. In a nutshell.
  14. Now we are 12 points from a European place, surely it's time to give the cup a proper go, especially with this decent draw.
  15. Poch isn't doing much wrong and I think NC might see that. Our squad just isn't a match for most of those above us and it's beginning to show. Three winnable games ahead - let's make the most of them.
  16. Spurs 100% of shots on target resulted in goals. For Saints it was 40%. It's not all about the defense.
  17. ...and three goals scored - that was the real difference. As a team we don't convert enough chances.
  18. "Saints' possession reflects their advantage in the middle of the park but Tottenham have created more chances. That Emmanuel Adebayor goal was pretty special too..." Hopefully unbiased assessment from the BBC website.
  19. We are the 3 o' clock commentary on 5 Live again today. I think that is the fifth time this season. Is that a record?
  20. Why not? The team will have to play a little differently today due to the injuries, so playing him would mean City would not know exactly what to expect from us. With our usual first team they would know just what they are getting.
  21. Perhaps the only cause for optimism is looking at the team who won 3-1 last year, as has been mentioned elsewhere.
  22. "...a message runs across the foot of the screen asking not ‘if’ Southampton can win the Premier League, but ‘how’. This is Cortese’s vision." And everything else is secondary, I imagine. Apparently not all of the fanbase subscribe to this as they consider it an impossible, foolish dream. Only time will tell who's right.
  23. Now who's football nous should we trust?
  24. Cheers, I really enjoyed listening to that - he is as good there as he was in midfield! I wonder if he'd be interested in being a Radio Solent summariser...
