Another self inflicted defeat then. How much more does Martin have to watch to know his way doesn't work? Give the injuries etc and the quality of Chelsea (and budget) you've got to expect a defeat. But it's the manner of it that's disheartening.

Damage limitation second half. Chelsea can get as many as they like. It's been a while since we lost 7-1. Could be more though.

Actually even more annoying that Martin was forced to play a different way today by injuries and tried an approach we've all been crying out for. And it looked good apart from the mistakes. We can score goals at this level. Really hope he learns.. but expect us to return to normal next time out against Brighton.

Possibly some signs of promise today despite the defeat. We can clearly score goals if we don't just play keep ball. Need a manager who can see that.

Martin's possession based game requires players who are technically good on the ball, comfortable in possession, mixed range of passing etc. But it's impossible to have a team full of players like that. Some footballers are just limited in that regard, or are better at quick, direct, attacking play. Or better at winning the ball back and giving it to someone else to play forward. They don't just want to hog the ball and do nothing. Russell's style drains the energy and enthusiasm out of even the better players and especially puts young, inexperienced players who don't fit his style on the back foot. Shea was a victim of that under Martin. I suspect he's happy to be playing football again and not keepball.

I know Pep signed the new contract this week but you do have to wonder how long he has left. 5 defeats in a row with today a total thrashing at home. I can't recall a time where something like this has happened with a top team falling so far.

Oh yes, Russell knows all about how to score goals. You've got to pack the bench with strikers! I am still waiting to see how he gets them scoring goals from the bench.

I don't mind going down again much. But still can't see anything other than us smashing the records nobody wants for being the worst premier league team of all time if we remain under Martin.

I was already feeling utterly hopeless about us picking up any more points before Christmas. This news has somehow increased the feeling.

I don't understand how RM can honestly still believe his own hype when we're playing so badly and going down with barely a whimper. We are the worst performing team in the top 4 divisions. How does he still think he is right? Who does he blame, the players? The fans? I just don't get it.

He has shown no adaptability or willingness to change despite his way not working. We need someone with more than one idea. I'd go for Moyes if he wanted it.

With Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea, Villa and Spurs up next.. Hard to see many more points coming our way. Suspect we'll break the Derby record as well as being the fastest or earliest team to be relegated in Prem history. Still time to break that 9-0 record to..
